Work Text:

On their way to Greece, Booker had gotten a hold of a newspaper, where there was a story about a little girl who had been kidnapped. They all agreed that the mission could wait and set out to save the girl after calling Andy, who said the little girl was more important than someone making fake papers.

Booker found the little girl in the van and sat down at the door opening, where he tried to win her trust with a silly magic trick. The little girl started to laugh when Booker dropped all the coins on the van's floor and produced a teddy bear instead, which made the little girl light up in a big smile and took the teddy bear. Seconds later, the little girl crawled over to Booker, who wrapped her in his jacket before he cradled her gently until she was sleeping.

The rest found them after having secured the warehouse.

Nile: "I have never seen Booker like this before."

Joe: "It's because you forget that Booker once was a father, and it's in those moments you can catch a glimpse of what kind of a father he was."

Nicky: "Booker does not show it often because losing his sons still hurts. Whenever he can save or make a child smile, I think it helps a bit on the pain."

Booker looked over at them and made a sign to them that they should drag the dead bodies behind the van just in case the little girl would woke up because Booker didn't want her to see it as the first thing. There was no need to add to her trauma.

Booker: "Shall we get her home?"

Booker stood up carefully so he wouldn't wake the little girl.

Booker as he walked past them: "Someone better not forget my rifle again."

Booker looked at Joe, who rolled his eyes before picking up the rifle.

When they drove by a local church, Joe and Nicky set off the fire alarm, so the church was empty of people when Booker placed the little girl, who still was sleeping on one of the benches. Booker then stepped into the shadows and kept an eye on the little girl until a priest walked by and found her. They stayed near the church until the little girl's mother was there.

Booker: "Let us get to Greece. I bet Andy has something to say about us being late with four days."
