Work Text:

“Psssst… hey, CAPTAIN SP- I mean… SPACE BOYFRIEND…”

ANGEL looked over the CAPTAIN with worried eyes. This had to be the worst timing ever - joining the space pirates when SPACE BOYFRIEND was in such a sad state.

SPACE PIRATE GUY sighed and shrugged. “It’s no use. Once he’s like that, he’ll be stuck there all day,” He then patted ANGEL’s shoulder. “Sorry, this is the first thing you gotta see as a new SPACE PIRATE. I told ya it wasn’t gonna be the fun adventures that ya thought it would be,”

ANGEL shook her head slightly, apparently determined to get SPACE BOYFRIEND up and running. “No! He’ll get up. SPACE PIRATE BUDDY told me that he’ll flourish again eventually, and I believe him,”

“Alright, alright. I’ll leave you to it, then. But don’t come crying to me if CAPTAIN SP- I mean- SPACE BOYFRIEND wakes up angry,” SPACE PIRATE GUY said before he went downstairs.

ANGEL walked over to the bed, where SPACE BOYFRIEND let out coughs of sadness. “Ohh… my precious SWEETHEART...”

“...Hey, SPACE… BOYFRIEND?” She mumbled, gently patting his shoulder. He seemed to have no reaction, and just let out another cough before muttering something else about SWEETHEART.

“C’mon, SPACE BOYFRIEND… you’re the captain of the SPACE PIRATES… master of the SOLAR SYSTEM… and the prince of the universe!” She said, attempting to say the same phrase that SPACE PIRATE GUY once said.

No luck, though. SPACE BOYFRIEND just continued to let out loud and harsh coughs. ANGEL looked around, her eyes finally landing on the boombox. “Oh! Maybe that will work…” She quietly said, walking over and attempting to boot up the boombox. “Huh? Oh… oh no. It isn’t here,” She sighed under her breath.

“They said that this was the only thing that’ll get him up, but there must be some other way!” ANGEL said to herself, beginning to pace the room back and forth in a worry.

ANGEL seemed to be so caught up in her thoughts that she hardly noticed the mint keyboard. “AH!” As she crashed into the instrument, ANGEL quickly hurried to catch it. The stand ended up falling, but luckily - the keyboard was saved.

ANGEL let out a sigh of relief, then glanced down at the keyboard in her hands. Just then, a lightbulb came over her head. If music got SPACE BOYFRIEND up and going, then this could work! Right?

ANGEL picked up the stand, then placed the keyboard on top. Taking one final look at SPACE BOYFRIEND, ANGEL started to play. She wasn’t that experienced with this instrument, but she got the hang of it quite quickly.

At first, nothing. Just more coughing. ANGEL was beginning to lose hope, but her eyes looked up in surprise when the bedsheets began to move. SPACE BOYFRIEND sat up, his eyes were red from crying over his beloved SWEETHEART.

“What’s… what’s that music…?” He said, his eyes still fixated on the ground. ANGEL thought for a moment, then smiled. “It’s a… piece of my own! Made it up right now. It’s called small words. Cool, isn’t it? It’s supposed to represent all your adventures in space,” She hummed.

SPACE BOYFRIEND stayed quiet for a long time. “Oh. Sounds nice,” He said, moving from his bed and finally standing up. He walked over to the keyboard, looking at ANGEL. She simply kept a smile on her face, wanting to stay positive for the down SPACE BOYFRIEND.

“Thanks!”

Silence.

“Oh… SWEETHEART… she left me. It is still so hard to say,”

“It’s... it’s okay, SPACE BOYFRIEND! Take your time. It’s okay to be sad! But, you shouldn’t let it get to you forever. You should move on eventually,”

“But…”

ANGEL reached over and hesitantly patted SPACE BOYFRIENDS shoulder. “You need some friends by your side right now! And, I’m your friend. So, I gotta make sure that I help to make you feel better! It’s going to be just fine, SPACE BOYFRIEND,”

“... Call me CAPTAIN SPACEBOY,”

“Huh?”

CAPTAIN SPACEBOY looked up with a small, yet genuine smile. “Thank you, ANGEL. I’m sorry you had to see me like that. I’m just glad I didn’t wake up angry,” He said. “You’re right, though. I still hold SWEETHEART dearly in my heart… but I will have to move on,”

ANGEL beamed with excitement. Not only did she wake CAPTAIN SPACEBOY up, but she made him feel better! From this pure joy, she embraced the other.

“...AH! Sorry!” She said, pulling back. “Sorry, sorry! I just got excited,” She said, her face becoming a bright red. CAPTAIN SPACEBOY patted ANGEL’s head. “Don’t worry. You don’t need to apologize. You can hug me whenever,” He said.

“R...Right!” She said with a nod.

“Well, call over everyone else! We’ll go to the FROZEN LAKE and have some SNO-CONES. It may not heal a broken heart, but it sure can help,”

ANGEL smiled enthusiastically, quickly descending down the stairs.

“Oh, ANGEL!” CAPTAIN SPACEBOY said. ANGEL turned around. “Yes?”

“Thank you, again,” He said with a warm smile.

ANGEL nodded. “Of course! Anything for the captain of the SOLAR SYSTEM!” She said with a cheeky grin, before hopping down the steps.

“Small words, huh…” CAPTAIN SPACEBOY mumbled. “Interesting,”
