Work Text:
“I'll be back tomorrow,” voice seems so tired, Mashiho patted Hyunsuk's head. “You sure you can manage, hyung?”
Hyunsuk silently laughed, eyes a bit close as he trailed those to Mashiho's sleepy features. “I am. Now go, I'm not a kid anymore, Momma.”
He heard how his best friend sighed, before firmly closing his eyes as he can feel the exhaustion crawling onto his back from back to back working, and taking care of his friend. Hyunsuk doesn't want to burden Mashiho anymore, so he needed to send him home or he'll never get better rest for having a long day that'll last for a week.
“Fine.” Hyunsuk's lips formed a smile as soon as he heard a sigh of defeat from his best friend.
Mashiho took a grip on his backpack before shifting his gaze to the man wearing a hospital dress, fresh from the accident that happened 2 days ago after the house party, it's around 2 am. His pale skin appears to be more glowy as the sunlight touches his covered with wounds milky skin, and it worries Mashiho more. He really wanted to stay with his best friend, but Hyunsuk's right. He's not a kid anymore, and he just wants Mashiho to get a good rest after 2 days straight of taking care of the guy. He knows Hyunsuk doesn't want to burden anyone, so he's fine with it.
“Call me if you need anythin—”
“C'mon, Mashi! I'm in the hospital, there are nurses everywhere. Go and take a rest. I'll be just fine.” Hyunsuk shooed away his friend, getting off the bed as he pulled the pole of his saline bottle, he pushed Mashiho's back to the door softly.
They reached outside, and a heavy sigh can be heard on the dark corridor of their ward. “Alright, see you in 2 days? I'll be getting nice sleep so I can come back here. I'll ask Kyu to bring some fruits tomorrow after his shift, okay?”
Hyunsuk offers a smile. “Right. Goodnight, Mashi! Love you!”
Just before Mashiho disappears to the dark side of the ward, he waves to his best friend and bid his goodnight.
“Alright,” he heaved a relieved sigh and stared at the pitch-black section of the corridor. Across his room was a space from the other rooms, and his sight traveled to the end of the corridor only to see the red led light blinking on the top of a massive door with off lights.
Emergency Room.
Hyunsuk silently felt gulped. The creepy blinks sent down chills onto his spine, pursing his lips as he slowly took a few steps back to his private room, and closes his door in silence.
He slightly loosens his grip on the pole of his saline bottle as he drops himself to the hospital bed. Hyunsuk felt the drowsiness he has been fighting for hours because of arguing with Mashiho to go home, but now, he just knows he needs to get some good sleep. He deserves it after convincing the most stubborn to go against his will of taking care of Hyunsuk.
After minutes of staring at the darkened ceiling, Hyunsuk finally drifts to his slumber.
His 2 hours slumber was interrupted with aggressive knocks coming from the outside. He opened his eyes out of irritation as he gazes at the door getting slammed by whoever it is, Hyunsuk doesn't care.
“Hey! It's not locked!” Hyunsuk rolled his eyes, shifting his position on the side of the bed, and tries to get back from sleeping.
The aggressive knocks stopped, and it relieved Hyunsuk as he sighed. “Fucking fina—”
“Let me in. PSA here.”
It made Hyunsuk shut up when he heard a hoarse voice coming from outside, and an unfamiliar sound of screeching can be heard that bothers the guy.
“I said, it wasn't locked. And even if it is, you can open it with your key, man. Let me sleep.” He slightly screamed, frustratedly opening his eyes a little.
And it helped him to catch a glimpse of the door slowly opening, only to reveal another scheme of the black corridor. His eyes couldn't see the figure of the nurse opening the door widely, and Hyunsuk realized that the figure is still in the doorway. But the strange sound stopped.
“Let me in.”
Hyunsuk didn't hear the next words when he felt his throat getting dry, as if wanting to quench his thirst, Hyunsuk asked the nurse to get him water. “C-Can you get me some water? I can't really get up, can you?”
Without a word, Hyunsuk felt the man slowly getting the pitcher on the table as the strange sounds engulf the whole space of his room like a song that plays in karaokes, it echos. He can hear the slow pouring of water, and then tap to the glass table as the sound of water disappeared.
But the strange sound came back, and it slowly plays in Hyunsuk's mind as he tries to get back to slumber. His eyes close firmly, irritated with the screeching sound coming from God knows where, he can't see because of how pitch black the room is.
The next thing he felt was something holding the bed tires, before a hand pressing on his side with so much pressure. He was about to open his eyes when he heard the man's voice ever so clear as it chills something down to his spine.
“Here's your water, Hyunsukkie.”
As he gulps his water, he heard some whispers that his system appears not to hear as he gets back to his deep slumber, with hands pressed on his side.
“I hope it doesn't bother you,” the man spoke. “I think I dirtied the floor.”
•••
“I think you'll be discharged by tomorrow, sir. Congrats.” The registered nurse smiled at him, placing a small case on the side table after getting some blood samples from the man one last time.
“Yeah,” Hyunsuk smiled. “I think so, too.”
The man in a blue uniform just smiled and was about to drag himself out of the room when Hyunsuk spoke.
“And hey, tell to the PSA, thank you from yesterday night. For helping me out, the water, yeah. And the food, for delivering the food.” Hyunsuk brought up while stuttering a little as he feels the light pain from the injection, touching his right elbow that the nurse took a small syringe-sized of blood.
The nurse looked at him in confusion. He placed the materials on his side before raising both of his brows on the patient. “PSA?”
Hyunsuk got confused about the reaction he received, shifting his eyes to the nurse as he rose one brow. “The one who delivers the food for the patients?”
“Delivers the food?” The nurse asks, tersely.
“Yeah, around 2 am. Why? Do you know him? Is he taking the night shift?” He nodded, sluggishly as he squinted his eyes out of confusion with the terrified reaction from the nurse.
“Sir... No one's delivering food trays at 2 am...”
“What?” Hyunsuk asks, eyes instantly formed circles as it sent chills in his nerves, and realized the whole scene of what happened exactly that night.
“Let me in.PSA here.”
The hoarse voice of a man in the middle of the night. The aggressive knocks that a normal patient service assistant won't do when he's in a ward full of resting patients. The warm room becomes chilly as soon as the door opens up.
“Let me in.” He utters, once again with a pebble and hoarse voice.
Hyunsuk eyes widened when things sink in one by one—
Him asking for a glass of water as soon as the door opens. The sound of the floor makes the noise of a body being dragged. The pitch-black room filled with spooky ambiance as the noise becomes loud to his ears. The slow pouring of water—
And the sound of his bed creaking as if a body tries to drag himself on the side of the bed.
“Here's your water, Hyunsukkie.”
Lastly, an image of a man beside him, eyes forming nothing but black orbs as the moonlight touches his pale skin. Arms pressed on the side of the bed as if he's lifting himself up to get on Hyunsuk's eye level—
with water on his grip, he whispered.
“I hope it doesn't bother you,” the man with a mole on his left cheek laughs.
“Sir... Food trays are getting delivered by 5 am. No PSA is allowed to deliver food at 2 am.”
“And all the nurses didn't leave the cabin at 2 am since we held a small meeting inside the office.” The nurse felt a little scared when Hyunsuk tightened his grip on the bed header.
Hyunsuk didn't speak a word and dialed the number of his best friend, eyes still widened from the words he heard.
“Mashi, pick me up.”
The sound of blood droplets echoed inside the cabin, Hyunsuk felt his body getting paralyzed as he felt hands on both of his sides whose owned by a man with a cheeky and spooky smile with clawed teeth as he lifts himself and revealing his,
feet cut in halves as the scarlet colored liquid drips from his limbs, dirtying the floor from crawling like a body getting dragged.
The man offered a smile.
“I think I dirtied the floor.”
