Work Text:

Richie wanted to be excited at the prospect of a date, but a crippling fear crept up the nape of their neck as the other man waited for their answer. They didn’t want to get close only to have everything fall apart.

They wring their hands together before saying, “you should probably know that I’m trans.” With that, they wait for the confusion, or a sneer, or even insults. Instead Eddie only shrugs.

“And that’s keeping you from giving me a yes or no answer or…? I didn’t know that was a side-effect of transition.” Eddie tilts his head to the side, laying it on his hand. Richie blushes in embarrassment. Their nerves also thankfully settle a little.

“No, I guess not,” they say, toying with a napkin on the two’s little cafe table outside. Richie purses their lips. “So I guess you’re still waiting on an answer, then?” Eddie nods.

“I am. But, take as much time as you need.”

Richie takes a sip from their own tea and tries to put their thoughts together. What if Eddie had been lying? Richie couldn’t be sure of this until they gave him a chance. But would it be worth it?

They decide to see as they say, “Yes.”

Eddie smiles at their answer. "Would that mean this is a date, My Love?" he asks charmingly with a single brow raised. Richie blushes a bright red that covers his entire face at the nickname.

"I'd love if it was," they manage to squeak out. Immediately after, they hide their face in their tea.Eddie chuckles, causing Richie's face to heat up even more. Looking closer though, they could also see the small blush on his face.

"Then it's a date," Eddie says, looking at them fondly.
