The 'Cat' Burglar

Summary:

The twenty eight year old F.B.I. agent, Lim Jaebeom, really had no clue what he was getting himself into when he decided to take on the unsolved cat burglar case off his parent’s hands.

Chapter Text

Years, this case has been unsolved for years and still continues on to this day. I’m talking about breaking and entering but with no signs of actually breaking into or leaving from the home. Not even security cameras can lead to any clues for they either ran out of battery, conveniently malfunctioning during the time of the event, or the home doesn’t have any to start with. What’s more is that this person will commit their crimes at any time of the day. Early morning, mid summer afternoon and late into the night. Not one single person has seen the burglar.

The police don’t even know if they’re male or female. They don’t even know their age, height, race, nothing. No shoe tracks were left behind. No hair follicles, D.N.A.

Just nothing

It was mind boggling. So much so that the F.B.I. was soon given the case because so many people were mortified that someone could just enter their home so easily. That no security system would keep them safe and that the city of Goyang housed such a person still on the loose.

But that’s not what really confuses Lim Jaebeom. Oh no, it gets even better. The cat burglar doesn’t even act like a normal burglar. They don’t take any valuables either. Literally, jewelry will be right there for the taking and it’ll be left untouched. Expensive electronics, priceless heirlooms, and even a wad of cash would’ve been something any normal burglar would’ve taken.

But not this one.

Jaebeom isn’t even sure what their motive is. Just to show they can do it? To show they can’t get caught? Pride? To make a point? Laugh in our faces? Because it has all of Goyang stumped.

Like, why would anyone break in just to mess with the groceries? Milk is the main thing that goes missing or the empty gallon will be sitting on the counter. The burglar won’t even leave a mess behind either. They’re neat and keep things as if they were like a friend staying over or something. Though, there’s always something put into the home that wasn’t there before. Like some twigs, feathers, a shiny rock, buttons, marbles, etc.

Hell, one time this old lady called the police and told them about the burglar coming in that drank all her milk but took care of her rat problem so she was actually happy about it. And a neighbor down the road from her was thrilled that her snake problem had been taken care of too.

Really, the cat burglar has become something bigger than just some random person in Goyang. Some want them gone. Others think it’s cool and look up to them. Half just want to know who it is. They’re the talk of the huge city. Little kids try and act like them. It’s really something.

But for Lim Jaebeom, he loves challenges and loves what he does. He’s been working with his parents in his father’s company for years now and him and his team have done the most dangerous missions to the little things like helping an old lady across the street. But this one really stumps everyone and it makes Jaebum want to hunt down and find out who this person is. To prove that the special forces he’s in can do the impossible, so he begged his father to take over the case.

He’s gonna be the one to find and catch this cat burglar. To figure out how this person’s mind works and their motive behind it. And thus begins the long nights of going over file after file after file…

Jinyoung is walking through the huge building. There’s people all around with badges hanging from lanyards around their neck or pinned on their pockets. Most have them in their wallets or inside their jackets as they move about doing cases they were assigned too. Jinyoung takes his time as it’s seven in the morning and he knows their case isn’t something that’s gonna happen overnight. So his strides are calm as he carries two coffees.

His suited attire is nicely pressed and neat as he loves taking the time to look presentable when he can for most his cases involve dark attire, bullet proof vests, hidden weapons and on the battlefield of constant danger.

Flashing a smile to the ladies walking past, Jinyoung is about to enter their office area that gets the top clearance and special forces within the FBI unit. Their code name is Got7.

“Looking fine as ever,” Shannon catcalls from her desk.

Jinyoung laughs, “I’m glad someone noticed.”

Shannon is using a file to her nails as her eyes shine with mischief, “Well, just like you I’m trying to make a good impression and snag a partner. I’ll never know when the one is gonna be right in front of me so I have to look good at all times. Yours is probably never gonna make a move though unless you do it for him.”

Jinyoung sighs, “I’m starting to think that you’re right.”

Shannon snorts, “That man doesn’t even notice you openly checking him out nor does he notice when you have the look of, ‘Please fuck me’ written all over your face. Trust me, that man is blind.”

“Well, he’s also straight even though he’s so touchy feely and flirty with everyone.”

Shannon points her nail file at Jinyoung and gives him a look, “Jinyoung, if I was a male, I’d go gay just for you. Don’t let that stop you from claiming your man. Is that coffee for Jaebum?”

She then points to the extra cup and Jinyoung nods,

“Good. Make sure you present it in front of Jackson’s dumbass and make him jealous.”

Jinyoung perks up at this, “Oh? Jackson’s here already?”

Shannon nods, “Jaebum called him in to bring over more files.”

Jinyoung rolls his eyes, “Jaebum loves to do it the old fashioned way.”

Shannon cackles as she watches Jinyoung keep walking, “He’s one fine ass man but is definitely a dorky sap through and through.”

Opening the door to enter the huge office room, Jinyoung finds Jackson passed out in his chair with files scattered everywhere. A light snore is heard as his mouth is slightly open and he’s leaned back with one file just draped over his eyes and his feet propped up on the desk.

Jaebum on the other hand is still going strong as he has his reading glasses on and looking over the giant stack of files. Each one no doubt talking about the cat burglar of Goyang even though none are gonna have any hints as to who this person was.

They’re all dead ends. The only thing connecting them being the strange gifts left behind, food eaten and no signs of entry or exits. It’s really pointless.

Jinyoung sets the cup of coffee down on Jaebum’s desk as the alpha instinctively reaches out to take the cup without looking away.

“Thank you,” he lets out before taking a sip.

Jinyoung sits on the edge of his desk as he looks at Jaebum,

“Have you given up yet?”

Jaebum huffs before looking up at Jinyoung with a stern gaze, “Why do you sound just like my Mother right now?”

“Because,” Jinyoung starts as he takes the file from Jaebum’s hand and sets it down on the desk, “Just like your father, he couldn’t find anything and I know that’s why you took on this case. But really, we have bigger and more dangerous ones we should be taking care of, don’t you think? It’s what our team was designed for. Not something silly like this. Though, I won’t lie, it’s a nice break. Kind of like a vacation.”

Jaebum leans back in his seat and takes off his glasses before rubbing his temples,

“There’s just something about this case that keeps drawing me back to it. I mean, something as simple as this should’ve had the person caught years ago but they keep doing the impossible. No one and I mean not one single person has any clues. How is this person doing this? How are they entering and leaving without going through the front door and such? And what for? Just to eat food and then leave? It makes no sense and that’s what makes it so damn intriguing and you have to admit, this is some top level shit. If this person can do this, then what else can they do when they decide to up the ante? It’s people like this that we hunt down on the daily. So why not do it now before it escalates?”

Jinyoung goes right into sassing, “You think this cat burglar is gonna go from taking milk and snacks to suddenly murdering people? It’s been years like you said. Wouldn’t they have done it forever ago?”

“Ugh, you really sound like my Mother now,” Jaebum lets out as he runs hands over his face.

Jinyoung laughs at that before standing up to move toward Jackson’s desk,

“It did help that I grew up with you so it’s probably why. Plus, your mom and my mom have a lot of similar traits.”

Jaebum can agree to that before he’s crossing his arms over his chest and sulking a bit. Silence fills the room as the alpha gets lost in his thoughts. Jinyoung can’t help but smile at the man because he’s always hard working like this. Not only a great leader, but always so passionate and determined with things he cares about.

Jaebum sighs after a moment and decides to stretch. His suit jacket has long since been hanging off the back of his chair as he rolled up his sleeves on his button down shirt that fits his frame nicely. The alpha stands and cracks his back as his slacks show off his muscular toned body before Jaebum ruins his handsome sharp features by yawning like the cute dork he is,

“Just you wait, I’ll prove you all wrong by catching the cat burglar.”

Jinyoung is now sitting on the edge of Jackson’s desk with one leg crossed over the other as he holds his cup of coffee,

“You do remember we’re a team right?”

With that, Jinyoung sets the cup of coffee down with a loud thud that has Jackson jerking from his sleep and sitting up straight,

“AH! Oh hey Jinyoung!”

Jackson literally lets out a high pitched noise before taking in Jinyoung and his expression of being scared goes into a friendly smile.

“Here, you need this more than me,” Jinyoung offers and Jackson beams,

“Ooo! You’re a lifesaver!”

Jackson takes the cup before greedily taking a few sips and moaning at how good it is,

“I could never survive without coffee!”

Jinyoung smiles warmly at the silly alpha before patting the top of his head. Jaebum snorts before trying to quickly cover it up behind a cough as Jinyoung glares in his direction.

“You did just fine surviving the night with Jaebum,” Jinyoung deadpans before smirking at Jaebum’s glare in return.

Jackson rubs sleep out of his eyes, “No, it was actually quite interesting to read some of the people’s commentary on the cat burglar. One lady said she hoped it was a sexy stud and that he could come break into her home any day.”

Jinyoung makes a face at that because, ‘What?’

“Yeah, there were some that were weird and pointless but you know we have to write down everything that’s said and happened at crime scenes,” Jaebum says with a sigh at the end.

“I’m starting to think this person isn’t human,” Jackson states and the two give him a weird look.

“Did you have one of those crazy dreams again?” Jinyoung asks before Jackson looks hurt,

“Hey! That was after eating spicy food which I haven’t touched since, ok?! But listen to me here,” Jackson points his finger on his desk for dramatic effect,

“Think about it. Entering and exiting without actually breaking in? Gotta be aliens or something supernatural. No human could be doing all this. No way.”

Jaebum rolls his eyes and shakes his head as Jinyoung cracks up with laughter,

“You’ve been watching them shows again I see,” Jaebum says and Jackson pouts,

“I’m being serious here!”

“We know. You’re always telling us how you believe there’s more than just humans on this planet,” Jinyoung says as he goes all eye crinkles in amusement.

Jaebum stands with hands on his hips as his face is serious, “There’s an explanation to everything and just because we can’t see it now, doesn’t mean they’re not human. For all we know they could have gotten a hold of a special key to unlock all the doors or something. With the way they’re able to hack into the security systems and such already shows how smart they are. But there will come a day when they make a mistake and I’ll be there to catch them.”

“Can it be after I take a nap?” Jackson asks and Jinyoung pats his head again in comfort.

“Go ahead, it’s what I’m here for anyway. The others will be coming in soon and until the cat burglar strikes again, there’s not much we can do.”

“It’s gonna be soon though. It’s been a moment since the last time so surely--”

The door suddenly opens and Youngjae appears,

“Guys! The cat burglar struck again! I heard the call Sheena got as I was walking in!”

Jinyoung and Jaebum both perk up as Jackson groans before pouting,

“But my nap…”

Jaebum grabs his jacket off the back of the chair and is already sliding it on as he’s ready. Jinyoung is hopping off the desk and already alerting Bam and Yugyeom to get their asses in gear while Youngjae is stoked talking about Sheena looking genuinely shocked from the phone call.

What could that mean?

Previously,

A young male sits in a chair tied up. His arms around behind him with rope wrapped around his wrists as his soft dark hair bounces a bit as he hums. Bright blue eyes shine with amusement as the pretty boy watches what’s unfolding in front of him.

As currently a burglary is taking place.

The guys aren’t even trying to be quiet or sneaky as they loudly grab expensive items that they can shove into their black bags. The two males have ski masks over their face with little cut outs to show eyes so they can see and a mouth to let them breathe. And to Mark, it’s silly and funny to him that he giggles.

“What’s so funny?” the one guy says as he stops to look at the omega male.

“Yeah? What’s so funny? Do you not understand the situation you’re in?” the other adds before the two move closer to surround him.

Mark’s expression doesn’t change from the carefree spirit that he is, “You guys,” he says quietly and sweetly.

The two share a look before growing angry,

“Do you not care that we’re robbing your house or something?”

“Yeah, do you not see all the cash and jewelry we’re about to take off with? The damage done to your property and that soon you’ll be dead after we’re done torturing you?”

But then Mark just smiles. His two little fangs showing as he lets out another giggle,

“But I’m not the owner of the house.”

The two suddenly look lost and confused because what? When they had broken in, they had found Mark in the kitchen enjoying some food so surely this was his house...right?

“I’m glad I was though instead of the actual owner because it’s not nice to hurt them and kill them just for greed.”

Excuse me?

The two then look back to Mark before finding their eyes going wide as the omega’s hands were freed and the rope cut---

But how?!

Claws come into view as Mark moves his hands in front of him and his teeth suddenly sharper along with his eyes flashing of a feline.

Right away, the two burglars drop their shit as they stare at this creature in horror but before they can do anything, Mark is letting out another giggle and moving fast. Knocking both off their feet with a swift kick before pouncing---

They didn’t even have time to cry out, eyes still wide in fear as claws tear into throats before their bodies fall to the ground in a pile. Guns and weapons still on their person as Mark flicks the blood from his claws back onto the dead and giggles again,

“There. Now you won’t be able to hurt anyone.”

Mark then cleans up the mess because he knows how blood can stain and puts the bags of stolen items nicely next to the bad guys before clapping in glee,

“All done! Now where was I?” Mark then turns back toward the kitchen to snag another yummy treat.

His black tail and cat ears out and flicking about in content as he gets his fill for the day. Sadly, he’s not able to finish the milk as he can pick up on noise from outside.

Was that a car? Oop, it was his cue to go.

So Mark is quick to head back to his way of entry, shifting as he gets up on the kitchen counter. He can hear a car door shut and then a gasp as they notice the front door being broken into by the burglars. Mark’s tiny black frame slips out through the slightly open window right as the owner steps into the living room and finds the dead bodies.

Mark is moving along the top of the fence in no hurry as he’s just some stray cat. No one would suspect him. Humans don’t even know hybrids exist. And by the time he makes it down a few blocks, he can already hear the sirens and see police cars rushing past…

Surely his gift of the dead bodies will appease the owner for taking their milk and yummy treats as he survives another day among the humans…
