Work Text:
Jekyll sneezed violently, sending a stab of pain through his already throbbing head.
This is just great. Yes, this is exactly what he wanted to be doing with his time right now. Being bedridden with just about the worst cold he’s ever gotten was exactly how he wanted to spend the day. Perfect.
“You done whining yet?” Hyde asked obnoxiously from the mirror. “It’s just a cold, get over it.”
“Easy for you to say,” he mumbled back, not bothering to open his eyes. “You don’t have a body right now.”
“Well, if I could , I’d be out having my fun, but someone is being all stubborn about ‘needing rest’.”
“You do realize it’s your fault we’re sick, right? You were the one to gallivant around in the rain, not me.”
“Irrelevant,” Hyde said lightly.
Jekyll’s response was cut off by another sneeze. “You’re insufferable. You know that, right?”
“I do my best. Now, about letting me out...”
“Absolutely not.”
Hyde mumbled something under his breath, and Jekyll distinctly caught the words “wimp” and “no fun” .
“Now who’s the whiny one?” Jekyll asked. Maybe that wasn’t the most mature response, but he didn’t particularly care at the moment.
“Listen here, you little-” Hyde started, but he paused. When he went on, his voice had shifted a little. If Jekyll were more alert, maybe he’d have caught the sly, deceptive look on Hyde’s face. “Maybe it is my fault we’re sick, but does that really matter right now? What’s done is done. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do something else about it.
“We both know I’m the healthier one. I’m stronger, I heal faster, and I’m younger. Why wouldn’t I be more resilient to a mere cold? If you let me have a turn, I bet we’ll be over this ridiculous sickness in no time. Would you rather be laying here, irritating each other to no end? Or would you rather be out and about having fun, cold forgotten?”
Hyde was manipulating him, he knew it. But, he did make some good points. Maybe just this once...
Jekyll slowly heaved himself out of bed and made his way towards his desk, pointedly ignoring Hyde’s celebrating from the mirror.
