Work Text:
"Nice to meet you." Namjoon says, bowing to the group that he had been hired to translate for. "My name is Namjoon-ssi, and I was hired to be your translator when you go over West for your tour." Namjoon greets politely. He can feel how clammy his palms are from nerves. When he applied for a job at the newly named HYBE company, he didn't think that he would be accepted as a translator for hands-down the biggest group in not just South Korea, but arguably the world. Adding onto the fact that he hasn't really had that much of a need to speak English since his test on becoming a licensed translator, which was almost two years ago.
Not to mention that he loves their music, message, and fans--possibly from being around their fandom as a fellow army himself. So, yeah, he was nervous about meeting them. Not that he was one of those crazy, obsessive sasaengs--in fact, he had to go through multiple background checks before being accepted.
The three famous men bowed back in return, all returning the greeting. "Nice to meet you as well."
"How old are you, Namjoon-ssi." One of them asks, being the usual follow up question in any conversation so that an establishment can be set for what level of honorifics need to be set.
"27 years old."
"29." Jin says.
"28." Yoongi says.
"Ah! I am also 27 years old!" Hoseok says. "That means that you and I can speak casually!"
"Are you sure you are okay with that, Hoseok-nim?" Namjoon asks.
"Yes, I insist, Namjoon-ah." Hoseok says with a smile. "Let us talk on the same level."
"And you can call us hyungs."
They were just like what they showed in all the lives and behind the scenes videos that the company posted. Very laid back, friendly, and extremely modest. “Yes, I understand.”
“So, what made you want to become a translator?” Yoongi asks. The four of them were all sitting around a couch and loveseat. The company thought it was a good idea for them to talk and get to know each other since they are going to be spending time together on tour for the interviews.
“Well. I didn’t really. I just happened to be good in school and scored high. Plus, my mom made me learn English when I was young through the show Friends.”
“Friends? You mean like the American show? That’s how you learned English?” The oldest of the group, Jin asked.
“Yeah. I watched it in English in Korean subs and then I took the subs off.”
“Well, I watched the show, and I didn’t learn anything. You must be an actual genius.” Jin says.
“Yeah, I watched it too.” Yoongi jumps in.
“Well…” Namjoon trails off, not really sure how to respond to that.
“That’s pretty cool, Namjoon-ah! You learned a whole language just from watching a show.” Hoseok exclaims.
“You said that you didn’t want to be a translator. What did you want to be?” Jin asks.
“Yeah, and how did you end up getting into translating?” Hoseok asks.
When Namjoon was younger, he had loved writing his own pieces of lyrics and rapping. However, to say that in front of the three members of BTS, was embarrassing. He was sure that it would come off as egotistical, to tell the biggest group in the world that he liked to rap and write lyrics. "Uh...well, I didn't really know what I wanted to do. I probably would have been an office worker since I was good at math. My mom was actually the one that made me apply for a translating license. She thought it would allow me the opportunities to rise up faster in a company and travel if I was a translator. So, I guess she was right." He chuckles.
They end up talking some more, learning about hometowns, favorite foods, etc. And they had gotten close. In fact, they even took Namjoon out to places to hang out so that the four of them could bond more before the tour started. Something that Namjoon found incredible considering their busy schedule. One of Namjoon's favorite places was to hang out at the Han River. Hoseok-hyung would pack up snacks, some wine, a blanket, and they would just enjoy the cool evening air while talking about random things.
Soon enough though, it was time for them to get ready for the Western tour. They would be hitting several big metropolises such as Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, New Jersey, Vancouver, London, Paris, San Paolo, and a few others. Namjoon thought it was amazing, but the boys told Namjoon that while it was definitely several big cities and different countries on different continents even, that they wish they were able to visit more places and visit more fans. Unfortunately, they only have so much say in that aspect. Apparently, there is some type of cross-cost analysis data or something.
They pack their bags and before they know it they are heading over to their first stop: Los Angeles. They reach LAX and Namjoon is overwhelmed by the amount of fans and paparazzi that "greet" them--well BTS. Being briefed already, Namjoon follows behind the bodyguards as everyone makes their way towards a black SUV outside the airport that had been waiting for the group. It was all a blur for him. One moment he was being rushed through the airport, blinded by flashing cameras and screaming causing his ears to ring. To suddenly being inside the quiet rumble of the SUV as it starts to head out towards presumably the hotel that the company has booked for them. It felt like whiplash for his senses.
"It's a lot right?" Yoongi asks, breaking the silence.
Namjoon looks out from where he was looking out the window towards the elder. "Uh, yes hyung. How..."
"How do we handle it?" Seokjin finishes the question inside Namjoon's head, and when he silently nods yes, Seokjin continues on to answer. "We don't. I don't know if any artist ever truly does. Like you said, it's a lot. But that's our army. Very passionate."
"Passionate is one word for it." Hoseok jokingly says, laughing while covering his mouth.
"Oh yeah Namjoon-ah. Did you receive the email of possible questions that the interviews might ask?" Seokjin asks the youngest.
"Yes, hyung." Namjoon had seen the email. The company had just forwarded him the questions that the interviewer had sent in order to get pre-approval. Along with the questions, the company had notified Namjoon of which ones the boys were able to answer themselves to give more genuine answers, and which ones had hard preset answers that the company's staff had written down. Namjoon had been practicing and rehearsing the questions and answers each night since he received the email. Worried out of his mind that he might mess something up and get in trouble.
Seeming to notice the mental anguish that was going on in his head, Yoongi speaks up to offer some comfort. "Hey, it's going to be okay, Namjoon-ah. Honestly, the questions are probably all just the usual questions right? Like, who we would want to collab with, and favorite food, and shit right? We've answered these questions a million times the last time we went on tour."
"Except this time, it will be better because you're with us Namjoon-ah!" Seokjin says with a smile.
"Yeah! It was so nerve wracking last tour because not every interview had a translator and it was hard to figure out what they were saying." Hoseok pouts, though Namjoon could only imagine how serious he actually felt about the issue. He could only imagine the stress and worry about being in an interview where you barely knew the language, not to mention that the interview would be filmed and televised. Even though he had forgotten big chunks of the language due to not using it on a daily basis, with only about a month review and rewatching all seasons of Friends, he was almost back to where he was when he had taken the licensing exam. Now a little more serious, Hoseok looks Namjoon in the eyes, "Trust me. Just having you with us will help us all feel better. We're glad that you are here with us."
Namjoon nods his head. He honestly wasn't sure if that made him feel any better or if it just put more anxiety on his shoulders. However, he keeps it positive for his elders since he knows that they are only trying to help. "Thank you, hyungs. I appreciate it." He says, before looking back out the window at the passing city before they reach the hotel.
The hotel was huge. Almost as big as the company's building back in Korea. The company had bought out two whole floors for the members, tour staff, and managers. Leaving Namjoon to have his own room, which was quite nice, one of the nicest rooms he has been in besides the company building. He makes sure his door is securely closed and then rushes over before flopping onto the bed, releasing a sigh at the comfort that envelopes his body. Looking at his watch, he sees that he should probably try and get ready for bed. It’s late and they had to be up early to start the first of many interviews.
Just the thought twists his stomach in nerves, remembering that he is going to be translating live, on the spot, being recorded and judged. He takes a deep breath, trying to loosen his gut. It honestly didn’t help too much; he could feel his armpits starting to get a little damp with stress sweat. He decides to distract himself by getting on his phone and scrolling through social media. This time, it seems to do the trick and after another two hours, Namjoon feels tired enough to put away his phone and try to go to sleep.
He is startled awake by the beeping of his alarm that he had thankfully set earlier in the previous day, seeing that it was 6:30 in the morning. Head pounding, limbs heavy, Namjoon wanted nothing more than to collapse back against the pillow due to jetlag. However, he knew that he needed to get up and with his brain helping him out with a dose of anxiety to jumpstart his system, causes most of the previous tiredness to vanish. He goes into the bathroom and turns the shower on, making sure it’s the perfect temperature before getting in. Namjoon likes taking showers because the water seems to wash his thoughts away, leaving his head empty for just a few peaceful moments.
When he steps out and dries off, he wraps the towel around his waist and heads over to his luggage to figure out what to wear. He slips on some navy-blue boxers and khaki pants. He wasn’t sure what top to wear though. There was a semi causal blue cotton cardigan that he could pair with a white tee-shirt. There was a formal white suit jacket that he could wear with the white tee-shirt, but that would definitely clash with the khaki he had already decided on. He wasn't sure if he wanted to wear the nice cardigan with khaki either though, plus what if he sweated too much and it showed through?
He gasps, he almost forgot. He rushes over, uncapping his deodorant and applies some under his pits to help throughout the day. Now that that's dealt with, he goes back to his dilemma. He decides that if he has the possibility of anxiety sweat from the interview, that he might as well wear something a little heavier to hopefully cover the sweat if it does go through his tee-shirt. So, he grabs a tan plaid suit jacket that would work color-wise with his khakis. Looking in the mirror, he sees his hair and attempts to style it the best he could while it was still a little damp. Honestly, Namjoon wasn't the best and he usually didn't give a shit about how he looked normally, but since this was being recorded he felt the pressure to make sure he did look half way decent. He gives up after about ten minutes and brushes his teeth. He gives himself a once over in the mirror and when he doesn't find anything offending, he calls himself good and heads out the door to meet with the others.
When he gets down there, he is surprised to see that the other members are in causal clothing. Stylish, but still baggy and causal. It made him immediately worry. Did he miss something? Make a mistake? What was going on?
"Namjoon-ah!" Seokjin yells out as he catches sight of the youngest.
"Wow, a plaid suit huh? Seems like someone wants to make a great first impression." Hoseok says with a smile, noticing the outfit. Too soon however, the managers were herding them outside towards their designated vehicle. Only once they were situated inside the car, did Namjoon ask.
"Uh.." Namjoon swallows, "Did I miss something?" He asks.
"What do you mean?" Yoongi asks.
"I..wardrobe?" Namjoon says, eyeing his outfit and then looking back at theirs.
"Oh!" Hoseok exclaims, realizing what is going on. "Yeah, we actually get dressed before the interviews."
"Oh." Namjoon says, processing that. So, he isn't overdressed, just technically dressed early.
Once they arrive at the building, everything rushes by in a flurry of action that Namjoon is barely able to keep up with. They quickly enter the building, BTS waving at their fans that had camped outside the building. They arrive to a room where the staff started to crowd around the three members to start getting them ready for the 8am interview. The three men were taking turns snacking on breakfast as they trade out getting their clothes on, makeup, and hair done.
"Namjoon-ssi. Please come sit here." One of the staff said, gaining his attention.
"Uh, I'm--" He cuts off, not really sure what to say. That he isn't a member of the group BTS. That he's already dressed?
"Come on. We need to do your hair and makeup before the interview." They reiterated. Without really being able to say anything back, he gets dragged into a chair and starts getting worked on. They squirt some liquid into his hair, damping it before they grab a curling brush and a hair dryer and start going to work on his hair.
He is surprised and uncomfortable when they start to put eyeshadow on his lids, the sensation foreign. When they announce that they are done, he looks at his reflection in the mirror and gasps, seeing his reflection's eyes widen and mouth gape open in surprise. His hair had been styled to where his fringe was pulled back off his forehead, and he had a nice subtle brown smokey eyeshadow to go with the tans and beiges in his outfits.
"Wow~ Namjoon-ah. Handsome." Seokjin says in English, giving a thumbs up approval. Namjoon feels his ears heat up in embarrassment.
"Thanks hyung." Namjoon mumbles.
Once Namjoon was allowed to leave the chair, he was finally able to get a good look at the members. All of them had their foreheads showing due to the way that the hair stylists had done, which is not common. Hoseok was wearing all white. White undershirt, white denim jacket, paired with white pants and shoes. Seokjin and Yoongi were both wearing similar outfits color scheme-wise at least. All black, which if anyone knew Yoongi, black made up most of his closet. The reason for the black and white contrast was a part of their new theme of the album, Shadow, and in order to recreate one, light and dark must both be present. Hoseok their light, their sun, as army called him.
All three of them were wearing turtlenecks and Namjoon couldn’t help swallowing the sudden excess amount of saliva that had gathered in his mouth. For some reason, Namjoon had always innately found turtlenecks very appealing and attractive, borderline sexy most of the time. So, to see these very attractive men wearing turtlenecks…well, you can’t blame Namjoon for staring.
“Glad you think we look good, Namjoon.” Yoongi says with a teasing smirk.
“Yah~ My worldwide good looks seem to be too much for him.” Seokjin says before bursting into a squeaky laugh.
“Stop teasing Namjoon-ah, hyungs. His ears are turning red.” Hoseok says, seeming to stick up for Namjoon, but he wasn’t sure if that was true. If it was at least, Hoseok was doing it in an embarrassing way as he feels his face and body heat up even more at his fellow 94 liner’s words.
Before Namjoon can say anything to try and redeem or explain himself, someone rushes into the room announcing it was time for them to head out towards the stage area for the interview. They get guided through some hallways until they finally find themselves in a room that is surrounded by equipment, and numerous people operating the equipment.
“Hello!” They get greeted by, who Namjoon assumes, is the interviewer. Namjoon and BTS return the greeting in English. “How’s the jetlag?” They ask, obviously trying to make conversation.
“Oh, we are all very tired, but ready to do the interview.” Namjoon says back in English.
“Well, that’s good since that’s what you are here for.” The interviewer says in a joking manner. Namjoon barks out a laugh, though he wasn’t sure if it was from nerves or because of the weird vibe he got from the interviewer, as if he thought that these Korean men didn't know what was going on.
In order for good camera shots, Namjoon and Hoseok were sitting in chairs, while Yoongi and Seokjin were sitting in higher stools behind the two 94 liners. They were handed water bottles, had mics clipped to their tops, and once everyone was ready to go, they started the interview.
“This is Sam Woods with Buzzfeed, and we are here with BTS!!!” The interviewer exclaims for the camera. “Thank you for dropping by, we know that you are very busy, so we feel honored that you stopped by.”
“You are welcome.” Hoseok says in English with a smile.
The interviewer laughs. “So, it’s your second time here in L.A. Is there anywhere you are excited to go see? Maybe a place that you saw last time you want to return to?”
Namjoon turns to translate this question into their native language.
Yoongi sighs, “I don’t really have anything.” He says in Korean.
Seokjin laughs at that, “Yah!”
“I like the food.” Hoseok tells Namjoon.
“Uh, he says he can’t think of one right now.” He explains for Yoongi, “And he likes the food I guess.”
“Hamburger! And Sprite!” Hoseok shouts in English with a proud smile that caused some dimples to pop out.
"Haha! You like Sprite?" They ask Hoseok, who nods their head in agreement. "I like Sprite too. Is there anywhere specific that you want to eat at?"
"Panda Express." Yoongi answers immediately. However, to the native English ear it probably sounded a little off due to their Korean accent. So Namjoon clarifies with a more native English sounding accent, "Yeah, he said Panda Express." With the chanting that was going on behind Namjoon of the members repeating the name of the restaurant chain, Namjoon decided to add, "They really like Panda Express as you can see."
"Panda Express? Really?" The interviewer says, seemingly surprised. "Come from South Korea to America and eat at Panda Express. Would not have thought that." Laughing at the end of his statement.
"Well, have you guys seen the Walk of Fame?"
Namjoon smiles, though he isn't sure if it reaches his eyes. This isn't one of the possible questions on the list. "Uh. What is that?" He asks the interviewer.
"It's where all the celebrities have their stars on the sidewalk. You can go and see all your favorite stars."
Namjoon nods his head and turns around to translate it to the members. "Have you guys been to the Walk of Fame? He says it's stars of celebrities on the ground." He says in Korean. They shake their heads no.
"No." Hoseok says in English and Seokjin in Korean.
"Doesn't sound interesting. I don't know very many American celebrities." Yoongi says in Korean.
"They said no they haven't yet, and that we might not be able to, uh, have the time for it when we are here." Namjoon translates with some polite corrections for the interviewer.
"Aw, that's too bad. Maybe next time." They say.
"Haha, yeah, hopefully." Namjoon says in English, hoping they aren't able to detect the obvious that's probably not going to happen tone in his voice.
"Well, do you have any favorite Hollywood or American actress?" The interviewer asks.
After translating the question into Korean, Seokjin answers, "Brad Pitt," in English. Namjoon's eyes widen in surprise, before barking out a laugh.
"No, I said female actress," The interviewer repeats, but Seokjin just nods his head. "Okay, anyone else?"
"Lee Sung Kyung" Hoseok says. "I don't watch very many American films, but i like her."
"Yeah, he likes Lee Sung Kyung. She's a famous actress in Korea. We don't have time to watch very many movies." Namjoon explains in English with a slight edit to Hoseok's statement.
"Right, I get you. It's hard to find the time when you are touring all the time. Speaking of, your fans. The army. Think it's an understatement to say that they love you. Is there a special memory that you have with them?" The interviewer asks.
Namjoon gave a more sincere smile, finally getting a decent question. "What's your favorite army interaction or memory?" He asks the members in Korean. He knew from the information from the company, and from Hoseok himself that this was a question that he had practiced an English answer for, so he helped him out. "Hoseok, do you want to answer?"
"Every moment with army is special." Hoseok says in English, and smiles and makes a finger heart at the camera towards all the armys that are going to be watching. Namjoon couldn't help the smile that took over his face.
"Hmm. I remember during one of our tours, here in Los Angeles I'm pretty sure. There were some armys that I saw who were holding a flag with the colors for Bisexual, I made eye contact and smiled at them. It was nice." Yoongi says.
Namjoon just stared for a second, processing what was said. Yoongi was talking about the eye contact between him and the fan, right? "He said that, he made eye contact with a fan and it was special." Namjoon says in English. Before being accepted to work at the company, Namjoon used to think what it would be like to make eye contact with BTS. To wonder if they would remember him in the crowd of thousands. He shakes his head of the thoughts. He needed to focus on the here and now.
"With you guys doing a tour in America and have so many English speaking fans, do you think you will ever do an English song or something? Maybe after studying more?"
Namjoon feels his smile staring to slip a little as he stares incredulously at this man and the question. Without even translating he answers for them. "No, I don't think so. They are boys from Korea so we like to speak our language." He knows that he might possibly get into trouble for answering for the boys by the company, but he felt like after getting to know the members, that he can answer this without having to translate this horrible and stupid question.
"Oh, I get that. Sorry, if my question came off rude. I was just curious since I'm a fan too and thought it would be nice, haha." They laugh, but Namjoon just forces a smile.
If you were a true fan, you would know the answer without having to ask that. Would have respected the fact that we are Korean men with our own culture and language, Namjoon thinks. "No problem." He says in English instead.
There was a motion behind one of the cameras that causes the interviewer to say, "Okay, to wrap up this interview, is there anything you want to say to your fans?"
"You say to army?" Namjoon says in Korean, gesturing towards the camera.
"Army~ I love you!" Hoseok says in English, blowing kisses to the camera.
"Army!" Seokjin says, standing up from his stool, doing one of his signature blowing kiss, "I love you!" He says in Korean.
"Be happy. Miss you and see you soon." Yoongi says in Korean, with a gummy smile and wave to the camera.
"And cut! That's a wrap folks!" Someone says behind the cameras in English. Everyone starts moving around, signaling to the Korean mean that the interview is over, even if Namjoon hadn't translated that. The human body language was clear across the world.
With the interview over, Namjoon feels like he can take a breath and relax.
“Glad that’s over.” Hoseok says in their native language, slinging an arm around Namjoon’s shoulder. Namjoon smiles at him, sharing the sentiment.
They head out of the area and once everything was ready, they left the building heading towards their car. They still have a few hours before they would need to head over to the stadium to start getting ready for the concert later that night. They haven’t specifically mentioned what Namjoon would be doing during the concert. Would he be sitting in the hotel room, waiting? Maybe watching the stream through someone’s phone that is livestreaming? He doesn’t know if he will be needed at the concert. The stadium staff probably has a translator, so Namjoon wouldn’t have to be there, right?
“Namjoon-ah? What are you thinking about?” Yoongi says, breaking him from his thoughts.
“Oh, uh, just wondering where we are going?” He says in the moment, though he isn’t sure it came out convincing.
“Think it would be nice to just drive around and see the city sights, don’t you?” Yoongi answers. However, there is a knowing glint in his eyes, seeming to know that this wasn’t what was truly going on in Namjoon’s mind. “So, are you excited for the concert tonight?” He asks.
Namjoon wasn’t sure how to answer that. “Um. I am."
“Oh, what’s your favorite song that you are excited to see performed?” Hoseok asks.
“Well, of course, Namjoon-ah is excited to see my performance of Moon and Epiphany.” Seokjin teasingly answers for him.
Namjoon was surprised though and couldn’t help blurting out, “So, I’m going to be able to see the concert?”
It was quiet for just a split second before Hoseok breaks it. “Of course you’re going to see our concert. What else would you be doing?" Namjoon is silent, not sure what to say when Hoseok asks. "Did you not want to go to the concert?"
"NO!" Namjoon exclaims suddenly, and in the small quarters of the car, it sounded extra loud causing Namjoon to wince. "I...I just wasn't sure if I was needed at the concert."
"We need you there to decide who has the best solo between us." Seokjin tells Namjoon.
"We want you to come to the concert and enjoy the performance, if you want to that is Namjoon-ah." Yoongi says with a small smile.
"I would like to hyungs." He cut himself short, not wanting to get into cringy and fan out in front of the group.
"Awesome!" Hoseok says, and with that the conversation was settled.
Later that night when Namjoon was able to watch the concert, it was more than he could have ever imagined. He's seen livestreams and videos from armys that have been uploaded onto social media, but it is so much more different being in that atmosphere and vibe of the concert yourself. He screamed the lyrics, rapping when those parts came up, and even busting a move when it became too infectious to ignore.
Which is why he is currently laying wide awake in his hotel bed at three in the morning. The concert had been over for almost five hours now, but after waiting for the boys to pack up and be ready to head back to the hotel, they didn't reach their rooms until almost midnight. While Namjoon knows that his hyungs are probably passed out from the spectacular show they performed, he was too buzzed with excitement to fall asleep. He knows logically he will regret it tomorrow since they have another early morning interview before they fly out to their next destination, so it's going to be a long day. However, he was having trouble relaxing his mind because whenever he closes his eyes, all he sees is the wonderful light show and performance that the three-man group did.
He tosses and turns, wishing that he had brought some of his sleeping medication. He didn't usually have trouble sleeping, but there is the rare night like tonight, that he has trouble getting to sleep and needs it. Somewhere close to four-thirty in the morning, Namjoon finally manages to pass out. He managed to get a good two and a half hours of sleep before he had to get up and get ready for the day ahead of him and all he wanted to do was sink into the bed and let it swallow him whole.
Namjoon was one of those people that actually needed closer to eight hours of sleep to function like a human being. Otherwise, he has killer headaches, his body feels like it's made of heavy lead, had a short temper and even shorter patience, and he just feels overall sick and awful. So, today was going to be wonderful. If he didn't feel so god awful, he would be more worried about the interview that he would be having to translate, but all he could focus on was how bad he felt and wanted to just disappear into a deep sleep.
Feeling like a zombie, Namjoon somehow goes through the motions of getting ready and meets up with the others to head to the interview. Thankfully, the place was about an hour away, so Namjoon takes the opportunity to sneak in a nap. Well, more like the smooth driving of the interstate mixed with his drowsy state, caused him to drift off to sleep without much resistance. And what felt like ten minutes later, he was being gently shaken awake with the update that they were at their destination.
They follow a similar process from the day before for preparing for the interview. This time Namjoon was wearing a button up shirt that had a mix of a lion and dragon head repeated pattern that was gold and green on a black base. He had on just blue jeans and some white sneakers. Seokjin was in a dark navy vest part of a 3-piece suit, with a light blue button up undershirt with a silver tie. All of that was paired with dark navy slacks that matched the vest and white sneakers. Yoongi was in a collared light blue button up shirt that had a pierced heart over Yoongi's heart, the color matching Seokjin's undershirt. He was wearing blue washed jeans with a brown belt and white sneakers. Hoseok was wearing a yellow undershirt that was paired with a navy blue jacket that matched Seokjin's vest, along with blue jeans and white sneakers.
Sitting down on a couch, where all four of the Korean men were sitting across from the interviewer. On the end closest to the interviewer was Hoseok, Namjoon on his right, then Yoongi with Seokjin farthest from the interviewer on the opposite end. Namjoon could already feel the effects of the day before, feeling how slow he is at processing things and it causes his anxiety to spike, which coincidentally does help to make him feel a little bit more alert, but he knows it won't actually help.
"Welcome BTS. So, you had a concert last night, and from what I saw it was crazy awesome!" The interviewer starts off when the cameras start rolling.
"Yeah." Namjoon says in English, agreeing.
"Did you guys have a favorite song that you liked performing?" They ask.
It took a few seconds longer for Namjoon to figure out how to translate that, but he does get it out in their native language, looking to his left and right at the members, as he explains the question.
"I really enjoy Anpanman and GoGo." Hoseok says in Korean before saying in English with a smile, "Go Go. Anpanman."
"Epiphany. I really love hearing army sing with me." Seokjin says, which Namjoon says, "Epiphany," in English.
"Hmm, I like the song that the ARMY enjoys the most." Yoongi answers. Namjoon translates the answer into English, "He likes the army, the ones that armys like." Correcting himself midway.
"Is there a song that you haven't performed before that you would like to perform?"
"Paradise, maybe Sea, to help provide comfort to our fans." Yoongi says in Korean that Namjoon translates.
"I don't know about performing, but I like the song Heartbeat." Jin answers
"I think it would be fun to perform Stay Gold." Hoseok says. "Most of these songs would be vocal songs and not dance performances though." He explains.
"He said that they would sing but not dance." Namjoon translates the explanation into English for everyone else.
"Doing all these tours, it's a wonder you have any time for anything else. Are you able to date?" The interviewer asks them.
This was something that the company put down as an optional answer, meaning that the obvious answer was that the members are not dating anyone currently, but if BTS wanted to answer something unique they could. Namjoon spends a good long second, trying to get his brain in gear to figure out if he should waste time on translating the question or if he should just answer no. He never understood the fascination with gossip and digging into people's personal lives. Honestly, not having the mental energy to translate the stupid question, he starts to answers "No--" but is cut off by Hoseok starting to talk.
"We go on dates with each other." The youngest out of the boy group says in their native language with a huge smug smile. Namjoon just stares blankly at his fellow 94 liner, not sure what just happened, if he had heard currently with his brain only working at 1% battery. He thinks he hears his mouth go on auto pilot, "No, there isn't much time," he says while still staring at Hoseok.
Namjoon isn't sure how, but the interview goes on and finishes with his brain still in a daze from Hoseok's answer. It was weird, why would Hoseok say that. Unless...are the three members of the group dating each other? Would that make sense? He knows that Yoongi has laced his verse and lyrics with so much bi-coding that he wouldn't necessarily be surprised, but the other two? And the fact that all three are in a relationship with each other? Is that possible?
"What are you thinking about, Namjoon-ah?" Yoongi asks, breaking Namjoon from his thoughts and making him realize that they were all in the SUV having left the interview. How has he been working on auto pilot this entire time? It honestly makes a spike of anxiety shoot through him, worried that he might have done something wrong without being aware. "Namjoon-ah." Yoongi repeats gently.
"Are you three dating?" Blurts out of his mouth before he is able to stop himself and as soon as it is out of his mouth he starts to apologize. "Ah, sorry. Sorry BTS-nims, I crossed the line."
"Namjoon-ah." Hoseok says softly but sternly to get Namjoon's attention. "Please calm down and breathe, okay?" Namjoon nods and takes a deep breath, not having realized that his lungs were empty. "First things first, we are friends right?" When Namjoon nods in agreement, Hoseok continues, "So, none of that -nim stuff okay? We are hyungs remember. We aren't upset that you asked us that, okay, so please relax."
"To answer your question though, we are." Seokjin answers the question, causing Namjoon to look over at him before looking over to the other two people.
Hoseok gives a gentle smile. "We've been together for about three years now, I think." He looks over for confirmation and gets a nod from Yoongi. Hoseok suddenly turns a little more nervous. "And now there's you."
Namjoon feels his mind freeze again. "What do you mean?"
"Well, we...we all really like you." Hoseok says, his face showing how nervous he was admitting this.
"You--you all like me?" Namjoon repeats, not sure what is going on, and with all three of their confirming head shakes, Namjoon sits there for a second. Trying to get his mind to start working, but honestly, he was having trouble wrapping his mind around all this. His low sleep from last night, mixed with the fact that he wasn't sure how he was supposed to respond or even suppose to feel right now. He thinks that maybe other people would be ecstatic to have these three gorgeous men interested in him, but he wasn't feeling that at the moment. "I--I'm...not sure what to say." Is all he is able to say.
"That's fine. We don't expect you to say or do anything right now." Yoongi says, trying to offer comfort to the youngest in the car.
"We know it's a lot to take in, but if you have any questions or want to talk we are all here for you.. Whether it is now or later. Truly, if you don't feel comfortable being in a relationship with us, you can let us know, and we would still care for you." Hoseok says and Namjoon slowly nods his head in understanding.
"That's right. You can't get rid of us now. You're stuck with us." Seokjin says, obviously trying to help lighten the mood.
"Whether you decide to keep your current relationship status with us, or if you decide that you want to take it further with us, we will be happy either way." Yoongi says, offering Namjoon a sweet smile.
"I just...I--" Namjoon cuts himself off, not sure how to formulate his thoughts and feelings into words. Seokjin places a hand on Namjoon's knee. "I just don't know what I feel. Like--I like you all. You are so cool and nice, caring, and I have always admired your work and I am so happy that I was given this opportunity to get to know you." Namjoon says all in one breath. "I--I just don't know if I like you romantically." Seokjin hand tightens on Namjoon's knee. "BUT IT'S NOT YOU GUYS." He says a little too loudly and can't help but cringe at the volume. "I mean--I don't think I have ever liked anyone like that. Ever had a crush on any celebrity--no matter the gender." He tries to explain to the others, worried about hurting their feelings, their relationship with Namjoon. He knows that they said it wouldn't change either way, but how can it not? They had confessed their feelings and if those feelings don't go anyway, it can only create a rift, right?
Namjoon sits there for another moment, trying to sort through the rest of his thoughts and emotions when a hand gets placed on his shoulder. "We're back here at the hotel. Namjoon-ah. I think we would all feel better if we all just let this simmer in the background while you try and sort your thoughts. Not to mention the fact that you are exhausted, and we have all had a long day and need to rest." Hoseok explains and offers. Namjoon looks into his eyes for just a second before he looks away, not able to maintain eye contact for long.
And that conversation happened two days ago, and Namjoon was still not sure what to think or do. He was still worried about causing an awkward rift between him and the group. He really has been trying to think of what his feelings are, thinking back on his past it made him realize a couple of things. Like he had told them in the car, he doesn't think that he had ever had a crush on anyone before. He remembers the fact that when he was growing up, all his friends would talk about how cute certain celebrities were, and Namjoon remembered thinking that they were objectively cute, but that was it. Like it didn't make him "feel" anything. Never felt any kind of heart pounding, sweaty palms, blushing and fumbling over words talking to any girls.
He had thought back then that it was just a difference in "taste", even though that made him feel a bit bad that no one at any of his school ever seemed to be in his 'tastes'. However, now with digging up all these past occurrences, it made him start to think something was up. He gets his computer out and starts to look into the LGBTQ+ community. He wasn't sure what he would be, but if he never had any crushes on girls, then he must be apart of the community right? Looking into all labels and the agreed upon definitions, there was one that seems the closest to what he might be. It didn't jump out and scream familiarity with his experience, but it was enough for him to click on it and look into it deeper.
Aspectrum.
The first thing that he sees, is that like it says in the name it is a spectrum--a range--and it is broken down into different subcategories. He randomly clicks on Asexual because he wasn't sure what Aromantic meant. Everything that he has always seen has been "homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, transexual, etc." and those all had to do with who the person liked right? So looking deeper into asexaulity, he does associate with a couple of the "defining" characteristics. Meaning that he hasn't ever wanted to have sex with someone--but that was because he never liked or has been interested in someone. So...does that mean that he is asexual? He isn't sure since he doesn't fit all the characteristics. He knows that it is a spectrum, but that's what makes it so frustrating. He wishes that there was some way to confidently known if he was asexual or not.
And if he was asexual, what would that mean for the three men that were interested in him. He wasn't sure of that either, just like a lot of things he wasn't sure about lately. He was starting to get a headache so he put away his computer for the night and decides to just mull over everything that he had just looked into and continues to look back on his life. With some of his new found knowledge, he does admit that some of his past memories and experiences do make a little more sense. Never finding any of the celebrities attractive that his classmates did--besides the superficial appearances. Never really feeling the "need" to masturbate. Sure, he still got hard, it was only natural, but he didn't look at someone and think about how he would want to have sex with them. There was also the fact when he never went on dates with anyone, his appa would question him, wondering why. Namjoon had told him that it was because he didn't like anyone that way to which his appa explained that was what dating was for. Which didn't make ANY sense to Namjoon. Why the hell would he go on a date with someone he barely knew and didn't like? So, while he didn't disrespectfully say anything outright to his appa, he did ignore the information, not really understanding or believing it.
With asexual seeming to fit more and more, he decided to dedicate just a little more research to the aspectrum, just to see if there was maybe a better label that seemed to fit him than asexuality--if not, he at least had something he could use. And honestly, it has made him feel better. Helped him realize that he wasn't a bad or weird person for not feeling other people appealing or attractive beyond their face.
So, the next evening that he has off--which happens to be the night that they land in Dallas for the next part of the tour--Namjoon decides to spend it looking into the aspectrum again. This time though, he looks into Aromantic. This one seems to be all the more confusing and enlightening at the same time than asexual was. So....there was a difference in romantic attraction and sexual attraction? People could have one and maybe not the other? Could both be the same or different? Honestly, if anyone found out about how mind-blowing this discovery was for Namjoon, he would be embarrassed. He feels like he would be judged for not knowing this, that it was something that everyone knew about. Maybe this was common knowledge? He wasn't sure, but he feels like it does make sense, so maybe he just missed the information somewhere when he was growing up.
Either way, this revelation was eye-opening that caused a lot of momentary confusion due to the fact that seemingly his entire world has been up-ended with this information. He definitely relates to a lot of the characteristics under aromantic, obviously never having any romantic feelings for someone else. However there was some labels under aromantic that talked about how sometimes these people have romantic feelings and sometimes not and honestly that confused Namjoon. Would he even be able to tell the difference between romantic feeling and not? And the biggest question of all, what does this mean for his personal life? Would someone even want to be with him if he couldn't like them back in the same way? Would they?
He shakes his head of the negative thoughts. Even if...even if they wouldn't be able to, he is sure that at some point in his life he would find someone that accepts him. That causes a spark of curiosity though, making him search up relationship options for aromantics. It seemed that a big common one was queer-platonic relationships. Which from what he could figure out was a couple in a relationship that had their own boundaries and rules for a lack of a better term that the couple agree upon based on their own comfort levels in a relationship. Some seem to just be super close "friend" ships, some a little closer than that, sharing kisses, holding hands, sleeping in the same bed, but not passed that. So each QPR was unique based on the people's comfort levels.
Namjoon thinks about it, would he be comfortable kissing someone? Kissing one of the guys? He...wasn't sure. Picturing it in his head, it gave him a mix of different feelings. It did give him a weird, uncomfortable feeling. Though, maybe it was just kisses in general? Because he honestly didn't like getting kisses from his eomma, and hearing kissing scenes on television or in real life from his parents make him disgusted. Does he feel comfortable holding hands or sleeping in the same bed? He wasn't sure how he felt about this right away like he did with kissing. He liked holding hands when he pictured it in theory, but it was hard to imagine it in real life. Same thing for bed sharing. He doesn't think he would mind sharing clothes, but he might only fit Seokjin-hyung's clothes--if...if they ended up in a relationship that is.
Maybe he should stop thinking about this, and try to think about his "feelings" for the three men. How would he feel being in a relationship with the three of them? He wasn't sure, it was hard to know if he wanted to be in a relationship with them since they didn't cause the cliche fast heartbeat, but maybe he should stop thinking like that since he seems to be aromantic, so he probably wouldn't feel that no matter what. Maybe this is what his appa meant? Giving people a chance in dating to see if you might work in a relationship? Does he have his answer? I mean what's the worst that could happen. If he decided to date them and it doesn't work out, then he supposes that would be that. He would just have to explain to them about all his recent self discoveries and let them decide if he was worth it.
It was the night of their final leg of the tour and the four of them finally had time to themselves, so Namjoon went ahead and sent a group text to all of them saying that he was ready to talk to them about everything. They were all gathered in Namjoon's hotel room, Namjoon on the bed, Hoseok in a chair, and Yoongi and Seokjin in a love seat. It was quiet, the others in the group letting Namjoon have time to gather his thoughts and start the conversation.
Namjoon takes a deep breath, looking at the other men. “So, I’ve been thinking about everything.” He takes another deep, shaky breath, anxiety starting to suffocate him. He is sure that the others won’t say anything harmful or negative to him, but he can’t help but be anxious. He himself had only discovered this part of himself a week ago, and now he was fixing to share that with other people. He opens his mouth, but nothing comes out, not really sure where to start, and he can only be grateful that the others seem to look on with silent support and encouragement.
He takes another breath to try and relax the tense nerves and muscles in his stomach. “So, after that day, I had done some research—because I was curious. I had realized thinking back on my experiences, that I had never had a crush at any point in my life. I had started to think that there must have been something different about me—” Namjoon thinks that he hears a noise that sounded upset, but his eyes were trained on his clasped hands in his lap. He knew that if he stopped, he would have trouble opening back up. “So, I looked into different labels, trying to see if anything fit—felt right. And…well, I did find something.” He finally looked up into their eyes. “I think I’m Aromantic and Asexual.” Saying it out loud felt weird and almost scary in a sense, even though he knew he was in good company.
“Thank you for sharing this with us, we know how scary it can be.” Seokjin says. Namjoon nods his head jerkily. When the others noticed that Namjoon wasn’t sure where to go next, Yoongi helped by asking, “Forgive me, but since I’m not as familiar with those labels, can you please explain what they mean for you?”
Namjoon gives a shaky smile, appreciating the effort to help him along with this conversation. “Well, let me start off by saying that both of these labels are broad and can mean different things for each unique person. For me, asexuality means that I don’t feel sexual attraction, and then aromantic means that, well I don’t feel romantic attraction. Traditional romantic attraction that is. There is something that I think…I think I feel that is more than just friendship, but less than the societal romance feeling.”
It’s quiet for just a second before Hoseok speaks up, “So, how do you feel about us?”
“I’m—I’m not 100% sure, but I think I like you more than just friends. I want…I want to give us a shot. If you want to, that is.” Namjoon couldn’t help but add on at the last second.
“First of all, of course we would love to. But, only if you are sure. We don’t want you thinking that you have to be with us.” Seokjin says, and at Namjoon opening his mouth, he continues on. “And what I mean by that, is you have only fully realized that you are a part of the queer community in the last week. I believe that we all feel the same way when I say, if you need to take a little more time to yourself you can. You did just come out for the first time, I’m assuming,” Namjoon silently nods, “which is a big, emotional toll on anyone.” The other two men nod in agreement to everything that the eldest just said.
Namjoon sits there, seriously thinking about his feelings for the three other men in the room. He heart does feel weird, not like the heart pounding cliché he had always heard about, but just…it felt full. Like he had so much feeling for the three, that his heart was close to bursting from how full it was. This feeling, while he wasn’t sure what it meant or how to describe it aside from being “full”, he knew that he didn’t feel that way with any of his family or friends. “I do like you all differently than my family or other friends. I—I want to talk about what this relationship would be like though with my orientations.”
The three members of BTS smile at the youngest among them. “Okay,” Hoseok says for the three of them.
“So, I have no interest in intercourse—though that might change? I’m not sure, but right now—right now, I don’t have interest in it. Other than that, I think I would really enjoy cuddling, and holding hands, watching movies together, stuff like that.” Namjoon explains with some hesitations.
“What—” Seokjin asks, a quick swipe of his tongue over his lips before continuing, “What about kisses? How do you feel about them?”
Namjoon thinks about this as well. “I don’t know.” He says as he feels his brows furrow. "I think that normal quick pecks would maybe be okay, but--" he cuts himself off with a shiver of disgust. "I think that anything with tongues or anything is a no-go."
“Okay, no problem on the make out part, but as for the pecks that you aren't 100% sure of, do you think it would be okay if we try it? And if you don’t like it, we don’t have to do it.” Hoseok suggests.
“I guess that’s okay.” Namjoon answers. Seeing Seokjin get out of his chair, Namjoon feels his face heat up. “Wait—like right now?” He asks.
Seokjin pauses, “Well, I thought now would be a good time, but if you don’t want to, we don’t have to.”
“No, I want to. Just,” He stops, not sure how to say that it would be his first kiss without it sounding sad. “I just don’t have much experience,” is how he decides to word it.
“Let’s start with just a peck, yeah?” Seokjin suggests, and once he gets a confirmation from Namjoon, he picks up the youngest’s left hand and places his lips gently on the back of the hand. Namjoon is surprised that he feels like his face gets even hotter at the action. "Is this okay?" Seokjin asks with a smile.
"It's pretty embarrassing, but I don't feel grossed out or anything, so yeah." Namjoon says.
"Yah!" Seokjin exclaims while laughing, no real heat behind it. "Well, is this alright?" He asks, leaning closer and placing a kiss against Namjoon's cheek and then backing away to see Namjoon bring his right hand up to his cheek that had just been touched before slowly nodding his head.
"My turn! I want to kiss Joonie." Hoseok says, jumping up from his seat.
The two eldest chuckle. "Okay, okay." Seokjin concedes, letting Hoseok get closer to Namjoon, and returns back to sitting next to Yoongi who leans against him.
"Muah!" Hoseok says, placing a big smooch on Namjoon's nose which helps to relieve some of the subconscious, mounting nerves as he scrunches his nose and laughs at the action. "Did you like that?" Hoseok says with a smile, seeming to already have his answer.
"Yeah, not sure if that's sexy or not though." Namjoon says through his chuckles.
"Well, I don't think it has to be sexy. Maybe there will just be a time where you are too darn cute and I will want to smooch your nose." Hoseok tells the other, staring straight into his eyes, causing Namjoon to immediately stop laughing as a fierce blush to sweep across his face again. Hoseok stares into Namjoon's eyes a little more, the tension starting to mount, and Namjoon barely registers that he is holding his breath, when Hoseok gets closer and gently presses his lips against Namjoon's and lingers for just a moment before leaning back. "How's that?" He whispers.
Namjoon opens his eyes, not realizing he had closed them to begin with. "Yeah." He shakily whispers back.
Hoseok's eyes reflect back amusement, but also a little bit of concern. "Yeah? You like that?"
Namjoon nods his head, "Yes, I liked it." He then looks over to Yoongi expectantly, who then smiles at him.
"While I would love to give you all the kisses in the world, but it's starting to get late and I'm a little tired." Yoongi says apologetically. Though it was only then that Namjoon took in the bags under the older's eyes and then the other two.
"Oh, I'm sorry--" He starts to apologize, but is cut off by the older men.
"No need to say sorry. We told you that we would wait for you to think about your own feelings. We don't regret it at all." Yoongi says with some firmness that didn't allow any room for Namjoon to try and feel sorry for himself.
"Besides, going on tours and doing multiple interviews, and planning out our next album also has its own toll on our bodies, so don't feel special." Seokin says with a playful wink.
"But yes, hyung is right. We should probably wrap this up and head to bed, even though I think we all might have some issues with trying to sleep now." He says referring to the fact that Namjoon has agreed to dating them all.
“I think I will be just fine.” Yoongi says jokingly, though Namjoon believes it with the way the older’s eyes are drooping.
“Okay, time for good night kisses.” Hoseok says, placing a final kiss on Namjoon’s exposed forehead before heading towards the door. Next is Seokjin, who places a kiss on the back of Namjoon’s right hand and then starts to follow Hoseok out. Finally, Yoongi, who places his left hand on the back of Namjoon’s head, gently tilting it forward before placing a kiss on the crown of his head. He leans back, gives a tired, gummy smile while ruffling Namjoon’s hair before saying good night and follows the others out towards his own room.
Needless to say, Hoseok was right and he did have some trouble getting to sleep that night.
~~~ 3 months later ~~~
Namjoon was on his way to the dorms, listening to AgustD, Yoongi’s hyung album, through his earbuds. While he loves all of the songs that the three men produce, this album was just something that Namjoon was in the mood for. He loved the meaningful, vulnerable lyrics, and was just having fun rapping along. When he finally does reach the dorm he is surprised to find that the three men abruptly cut off the conversation that was previously being held. Namjoon eyes them a little suspiciously, “Hello.” He greets with a small bow.
“Namjoonie~” Hoseok sing songs, approaching the younger and pulling him into a hug. Namjoon gives a smile, that he knows causes his dimples to pop out since Hoseok immediately leans in and kisses both sides of his cheeks.
“What were you all talking about?” He asks, raising his brow.
“Ah, we were just planning our next date.” Yoongi answers.
“Oh,” Namjoon says, curiosity in his voice.
“Yep! We were thinking of going to a karaoke bar.” Seokjin says. “Don’t have to worry about sounding good, we just thought it would be fun to mess around.”
Namjoon’s first response is anxiety eating at him, wanting not to do it. However, a thought entered his brain a second later, making him realize that the two rappers probably wouldn’t be much better off than he would. It made him feel a little less self conscious. “That…yeah, that does sound fun.”
“I’m glad you think so! The place we were looking at is retro disco themed so, we thought it would be cute if we dressed up.” Hoseok adds on. That part, Namjoon wasn’t entirely sure of, and seeming to sense his trepidation Hoseok adds on, “We will all be dressed up, and we can rent the place out so no one else is there at the karaoke bar.” And while that did make Namjoon feel a little better, he still had a little bit of nerves from receiving weird looks. He also knew that he hasn’t been on a bad date yet, so while this wouldn’t be his go-to, he decides to trust them.
"This is the outfit we have picked out for us--or wait, would you rather wait to see it when it arrives?" Hoseok asks.
"Uh, I guess wait? When is it going to be?" The younger asks.
"Says that it should be arriving in a week or so. We were planning on going out next weekend to give it some time, just to make sure everything is good and ready." Yoongi tells him.
"Oh, okay then. Well, then I guess I can see it now?" Namjoon says, changing his mind.
"Come sit down and we can show you all of our outfits--if you want that is. If you just want to see yours and have ours be a surprise, we can do that too." Seokjin proposes.
"I like the sound of that. Of just seeing mine and having hyungs' outfits be a surprise." Namjoon says with a small smile as he gets himself situated on the couch between Seokjin and Yoongi, Hoseok snuggling into Yoongi's other side.
"Here you go!" Seokjin says, titling the tablet to allow Namjoon easier access to the outfit. For the pants, they were brown and the shirt was a collared button up with a...weird pattern on it. It had a black base with white stars that had a bursting effect around them.
"That's...interesting." Namjoon tries to say politely, not really sure how to feel about the outfit. With it being an older era styling, he obviously wasn't used to wearing those kinds of clothes so he wasn't sure how he would look with it.
"Isn't it. You'll be surprised by what our outfits look like. They are all pretty wild, but that's the point, to have fun." Yoongi says with a full gummy smile, which Namjoon couldn't help but return.
And when the outfits did come in the following week, Namjoon put on his outfit to make sure that it fit properly, and he has to admit that he didn't look half as bad as he thought he would. He turns around, his back towards the mirror, and admires his butt in the pants. Yep, a lot better than he thought he would. He walks out and goes into the main living room where the other three were waiting for him, but he stops in his tracks when he takes in their outfits.
Yoongi had his black hair parted, showing off his forehead, was in a pair of blue denim jeans, a white button up shirt, along with charcoal grey blazer. Hoseok's black hair wasn't styled in a part, but still seemed styled in a way that Namjoon couldn't pinpoint. He was wearing black leather pants along with a red button up leather shirt. Finally, Seokjin, whose hair was a lighter shade of brown with some curls in it, from when he had gotten it done earlier that day. The eldest was wearing....well he wasn't sure how to describe the color, maybe a burnt brown? Either way, he was wearing nice slacks, with an orange patterned shirt that had little tiny flowers all over it.
"How are you doing?" Yoongi asks the youngest. "You ready?"
"Yeah, yeah, I think I am." He says, continuing to walk further into the room from his previously frozen position, only to trip and stumble.
Thankfully though, Seokjin helps catch him. "Hey, I know we look good, but there's no need to fall for us like that." He says, before laughing at his own joke with his special squeaky laugh.
"Yah~" Yoongi complains as Hoseok laughs along with Seokjin, though whether that was due to the joke or because of the elder's laugh, Namjoon wasn't sure. "Are you okay Namjoon?" Yoongi asks, directing his attention back to the younger.
"Uh, yeah, I'm okay, hyung." Namjoon answered back.
"Great! Well, shall we get going?" Hoseok asks with a smile, everyone nods their head and together they head out to wherever this karaoke bar is located.
In the car, Namjoon feels nerves start to pile up in his gut. He was going to be singing with professionals that had millions of fans around the world. Even if these very same people were the ones that he was somehow dating, he was still a little nervous about how bad he would be. Would they laugh at him? He could barely rap and write lyrics back when he was younger--he definitely didn't have a voice anywhere good enough for singing. A hand is gently placed on his knee that causes him to follow it to the owner that happens to be Yoongi. "Try to relax. Remember this is supposed to be fun. We are just going to be messing around and having fun." He tries to provide some comfort for the younger. "Besides, it's not like Seok or I can sing very well, and hyung isn't going to be trying seriously." They had arrived at the place since the car had stopped. "Come on, let's go mess around and ruin our throats." He says with a soft smile.
The four of them exit the vehicle and enter the venue which had been bought out so that no one else would be there, media or any accidental fans. They head towards one of the rooms and close the door behind them--making sure that it was a party size room so that they would have plenty of room to move around the space. Namjoon watches as his three hyungs go around, seeming to be setting things up. He decides to sit back in case he messes something up, especially since he hadn't ever been to a karaoke bar.
Once everything seemed ready, the three come over to where Namjoon had taken a seat.
"So. Namjoon-ah." Seokjin starts, but stops as abruptly as he had started.
"Do you have something you want to share with us, maybe before we get started?" Yoongi asks.
Namjoon looks between the three of them, all of them having grins on their faces and it causes some anxiety to crawl up and grip his body. "Um...No? I don't know what you are referring to?"
The three share a look between each other before turning back to Namjoon. It was Hoseok who talked next. "We are referring to the fact that you can rap."
"Rap amazingly. What the fuck Namjoon, why didn't you tell us?" Yoongi jumps in with his grin growing wider and a sparkle in his eye.
Namjoon is frozen, not sure what to say. He was relieved in a way that the conversation was about this, but it also still caused him some anxiety. How did they find out? Were they mad at him for not saying something? "Uh...how do you..." He trails, not sure how to gather complete thoughts.
"We've heard you." Seokin says simply, with a shrug of his shoulders.
"Yeah, we heard you rapping to hyung's and my verses." Hoseok chip in to the specifics some.
"When..." Namjoon trails off.
"Oh, it was a couple of weeks ago? Maybe a month ago?" Hoseok guesses, titling his head.
"Is there a reason you didn't tell us?" Yoongi says softly, a little more calmly and seriously.
"Just--I wasn't good at it." Namjoon says, a hot flush taking over his neck and face, staring down at his lap so he wouldn't have to look at their faces. "I tried auditions and I didn't pass."
"They were wrong." Yoongi states with so much conviction that it causes Namjoon's eyes to flick up to him. "Listen to me. I heard you rap to my verses. I'm not trying to brag, but it's fucking hard to keep up with it and still put the same inflictions that are needed to not make it sound stupid. You were able to do that."
Namjoon is quiet for a few moments, soaking that information in. "Well, it doesn't matter."
"Maybe not if you don't want to pursue it, which is completely your choice but you would definitely be amazing if you did. But it did need to be said. Even if you decide not to go down that path, it doesn't change the fact that you can start to rap and mess around with us without feeling too self conscious." Seokjin says. "So, with that, shall we start this party?"
Namjoon offers them a small, but genuine smile. "Yeah, thanks hyungs. I'll file that information away for later and think on it, but I think I am ready to destroy this place."
"Hopefully you mean with your awesome raps and not with your clumsy body." Hoseok says with a laugh. At Namjoon's pout though, he leans down and places a quick peck on his nose. "No fair, no pouty. You know that I'm right." Namjoon sighs, giving in since he knew that Hoseok was definitely right, even if he was partially teasing. The three of them had seen him break and hurt himself more times than they can count on their hands combined. He gets another kiss and a nuzzle into his side as they head towards the actual karaoke machine to start their night of fun.
