Work Text:
For the past few days, Tetsurou realized something was definitely off about Kenma. He had been a bit too anxious for his own good and his workaholic tendency didn't entirely help with it. Tetsurou had often wake up to an empty bed, only to walked over to Kenma’s office and pull his husband to bed. But that wasn’t all. Kenma usually never let Tetsurou inside his office, especially when he’s live. There was a ‘live’ sign above his door for nothing. But he had been more so with the locked doors which drove Tetsurou insane. But he doesn’t question him.
“You’re a fan of Kodzuken?” Tetsurou jumped slightly, turning to see his co-worker smiled. “Didn’t know you’re one to be into games, Kozume-san.”
“Ah… Well… I’m not that into games. But I like watching him.” He smiled and turned back to his phone where Kenma’s stream was on. Kenma had been secretive of his private life, especially showing who his husband is to the viewers. Sure, Kuroo had appeared a few times to nudge Kenma to drink or eat, but all they saw was his body from the neck down so Tetsurou's identity was safe.
“But he sure is an amazing person, isn’t he?” His co-worker sat down in front of him and take out his bento lunch. “He also has been sponsoring a few of our venues as well with Bouncing Ball Ltd.”
“Are you a fan of his, Miyuki-san?”
“I’ve been watching him ever since he started.” Miyuki admitted, “A friend showed me one of his streams and I’ve been hooked since. Since when did you begin watching him, Kozume-san?”
“At the beginning as well.” Tetsurou couldn’t help but to smile proudly at his husband. After work, Tetsurou made sure to stop by their usual bakery to pick up the apple pie Kenma loved so much. It had been almost a tradition at this point and Kuroo knew, if he came home with no pie, he won’t get cuddles and will have to sleep under the kotatsu. Kenma may seem indifference but he sure was clingy.
“I’m home.” He announced his arrival and took off his shoes in the genkan. He checked his phone, knowing Kenma finished streaming so he made his way towards the office, giving it a small knock. “Kenma?”
“In here,” He heard the voice elsewhere and was surprised to see Kenma in their room. “I was just showering. Welcome home.”
“I’ll go and make dinner, want to help?” Tetsurou could see the evident dark circles under Kenma’s eyes. Kenma gave him a small nod and they made their way downstairs.
“Kuro…” Kenma suddenly sounded so vulnerable and Tetsurou turned to him amidst his veggies chopping. “Can I ask you a favor?”
“Sure? Depends on what.” Tetsurou was curious; Kenma never really asked for him anything, and seeing him so nervous too. Suddenly, anxiety spiked inside Tetsurou. Was he breaking up with him? Would there be a divorce? Was Kenma bored of him already? They’ve barely been married for 3 years!
“Stop overthinking. I can hear it screaming from here.” Kenma scoffed, handing Tetsurou the vegetables that he had washed. “I’m not divorcing you.”
“You knew what I was thinking?”
“I can read it in your eyes.” Kenma stated as if it was the most obvious thing. “But,” His voice suddenly became quiet. “I wanted to ask if you want to appear in a special stream…”
“A special stream?” Tetsurou confirmed his hearing and Kenma nodded.
“For some of my long time patrons and subscribers…” Kenma murmured, suddenly sounding nervous. “It’s one of the incentives I promised them… They’ve been with me since I started the
stream so I’d thought I feature you into my stream…”
“You’ll introduce me to them?”
“I trust them to not reveal it to the world”
“I mean. I don’t mind. As long as you’re comfortable.” Tetsurou gave him a reassuring smile.
“Then. We’ll stream next Friday night, okay?” Tetsurou was taken aback. He never streamed on Friday nights. It was usually their date nights. And to add it up, it was their upcoming wedding anniversary. Tetsurou didn’t question it though and gave him a nod. They proceeded to eat dinner in a comfortable silence after that, and Kuroo was rewarded with a cuddling session with Kenma as they watched a movie in their in-home theater. They did had an extra room and Tetsurou had suggested this.
For the next week, Tetsurou was wondering why Kenma was acting more and more nervous. Was it because he was finally showing to some of his viewers his husband? Tetsurou wasn’t sure. And when day for the stream came, they ate something quickly before Tetsurou walked in to see Kenma preparing for the stream.
“You ready?” Kenma eyed Tetsurou as he sat down, staring at the monitor that was showing his face as clear as day, sitting beside Kenma.
“I guess? I don’t know” Tetsurou had to admit he was nervous himself. He glanced at the stream Kenma had on his main monitor and was surprised to see they didn’t have that may viewers. Or should he be? Kenma did say this was a private stream. Tetsurou turned over, seeing the nervousness in Kenma’s eyes and he reached over, intertwining their hands and gave him a reassuring squeeze. Kenma looked over, thankful before moving his mouse to press stream.
“Good evening, this is Kodzuken,” Kenma began his usual greetings, “before I introduce you all to my husband sitting next to me, I’d like to remind you that this is a private stream. Do not share the link anywhere or I’ll ban you.” He smiled, watching the chat exploding with ‘Who is he?’s and ‘You wouldn’t dare!’ Tetsurou had to admit, some of the names looked familiar.
“Anyway, this is Kuro, my husband of 3 years now. Today's our 3rd anniversary.” He smiled, “I’m not telling you his name though.”
“You’ll really let people call me by the nickname you gave me?” Tetsurou snorted and Kenma pondered for a moment, not liking the idea.
“You're right. You can call him by my last name. People know that much, right?” Kenma suggested and Tetsurou laughed. That was true that Kenma’s name was known to his viewers. He didn’t hide his status as the owner and CEO of Bouncing Ball Ltd. a secret after all. “Anyway, you might be wondering why I decided to stream instead of celebrating our anniversary.” It was more directed at Tetsurou than the chat but he nodded anyway. “I want Kuro to be my beta tester on this new game I’m developing.”
“Y-You’re making a game?” Tetsurou gasped. Everything was finally clicking in now. All those all-nighters, those dark circles. Even the locked room.
“I plan to if it’s to my satisfaction” He shrugged, booting up the game and scooted over so Tetsurou would be in the center.
“What kind of game is this?”
“Adventure RPG,” He shrugged and began to tell Tetsurou the basic controls. Then Tetsurou was playing while Kenma watched, occasionally reading out the chat, purposefully leaving the names out. Tetsurou could see, however, that they’re barely peaking 20 viewers but it wasn’t that much of a surprise. Kenma did say it was for special patrons and subscribers.
“Oh hey, this looks like Nekoma.” Tetsurou laughed, seeing the resemblance of their former High School. This Adventure RPG Kenma had created was set in an apocalyptic setting and Nekoma looked wrecked. Tetsurou was controlling a character around, using clues to find comrades and survivors.
“What’s this…” He picked up one of the notes, seeing the messages was split and blurry.
“It’s a clue. If you could find more, you can solve it to find the ending.” Kenma explained from the side and Tetsurou hummed, continuing. It was fun watching Kuroo constantly die at the hard fights. But Tetsurou was at least having fun and cheered once he finally beat them, especially how some of the zombies looked a lot like their friends. As the time went by, Kenma began to fidget in his seat as Tetsurou was moving his character to the last scene. Realization dawned on Tetsurou as he moved the camera around, recognizing it.
“It’s… It’s the riverside park…” He walked his character up to the torn volleyball net and picked up the note. Tetsurou stared at the screen, his hand moved the mouse to scatter the notes out as he reassembled them. Kenma suddenly felt like his breathing was stolen from his lungs and he could feel his palms being sweaty. He doesn’t know why he was so nervous. He glanced at the chat, seeing how they all were curious to know what all the clues would say when put together.
“Ah-, a message came.” Tetsurou smirked victoriously.
“Read it out loud.” Kenma mumbled and Tetsurou nodded, not seeing the nervousness in his tone.
“Congratulations for finding this note, Kuro.” Tetsurou stopped mid-sentence, turning to Kenma. He didn’t expect the final note was addressing to him directly. He had thought he was simply beta-ing Kenma’s new game.
“Keep reading” Kenma urged and Tetsurou turned his head back to the screen.
“For your prize, please click next…” Tetsurou moved his mouse over to click on next. His screen suddenly went completely dark before light returned, showing Tetsurou the volleyball park they used to play as kids, in its full glory, not torn and destroyed by the apocalyptic settings. He then noticed a small chest appeared and Tetsurou walked over, opening the chest to see a note flying out. “I’ve never been so grateful for you to agree to be my player 2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am and for always being so considerate. Happy 3rd anniversary, Kuro-“ Tetsurou choked a little but smiled when Kenma reached for his hand. He took a deep breath before continuing, clicking on the next button. “I’ve been nervous to say this, but I would like to announce something. Hope you don’t mind getting a player 3… You’re going to be a father, Kuro.” Tetsurou really did choked on his tears and he quickly turned to Kenma, seeing tears already on the streamer’s face. “I-I’m going to be a father?” He couldn’t formulate proper sentences anymore and Kenma smiled weakly, nodding. He broke into a sob as he pulled Kenma into his arms, squealing and just sob out of pure joy. Kenma couldn’t help but to cry a bit as well, basking in at the news of them becoming parents. Suddenly remembering they were streaming and people were watching, Tetsurou quickly peel himself away and coughed a bit. “S-Sorry, forgot we were streaming…”
“Don’t worry about it, Tetsu-kun!” Tetsurou immediately recognized the voice and he widened his eyes when Kenma pulled up FaceTime, seeing the faces of his father and his parents-in-laws.
“E-Eh?”
"We were surprised on why Kenma had insisted on us watching while we sat here on FaceTime.” Kenma’s mother chuckled but her smile was evident, “But now I know why! Congratulations, you two!”
“T-This stream” Tetsurou turned to Kenma.
“I made it up. The viewers were just our friends.” Kenma hummed, “I haven’t told anyone yet and thought our family should be here to witness it as well…”
“I’m so happy for you two!” Tetsurou's father was over the moon at the news and Tetsurou couldn’t help but to let his tears flow.
Kenma didn't try to stop the smile from making its way on his face as he watched his husband. “You’re being a crybaby, Kuro.” He reached over, wiping away the tears with his thumb.
“H-How can I not? Y-You surprised me by saying we’ll be parents on our anniversary!" Tetsurou gasped, "I can't believe you've worked so hard for this announcement, Kenma.” He sniffled and Kenma smiled, leaning up to peck his lips quickly.
“Anyway, we should end the stream.” Kenma turned back to his screens, “Thank you everyone for joining us today: Especially Yaku-kun and Shoyo, this was the best time I could have picked to let you two watch this live.” He smile at all the congratulatory messages. “I'm also grateful that our parents could be able to join as well. But I think Kuro and I will be spending some time alone to celebrate the news now.” He waved at everyone before ending the stream.
