Work Text:
The first time Kenma saw him with someone is when Kenma was walking back from convenient store to his house when he saw someone familiar not too far from where he was. He stopped on his tracks and stared the figure that he really knows but he was not alone, he saw another figure so close to the one he knows. Different scenarios and questions rushed to Kenma’s mind but he decided to ignore the scenarios and questions that are running in his mind. He then thought that they just had their company dinner just like what he told him before he went to work this morning and he just helping the other one because of drunkenness that explained the closeness between the two. Kenma decided to ignore what he just saw and continue walking in his way to his house. Later that night, Kuroo arrived and went straight to Kenma to give him a kiss when Kenma saw something in Kuroo’s collar.
The second time was a little different. Kenma was in the café waiting for Akaashi to come. Kenma was supposed to be streaming today but his company encounters some problems that needed his personal appearance on the company that’s when he received a message from Akaashi asking if he is available today. He then informed Akaashi that he is and told him that they just going to meet each other in the café nearby and that’s why he was here. Not long after, Akaashi came. They were just talking about their day when Akaashi remembered something important to tell Kenma.
“Right! I forgot to tell you something.”
“Hmm?”
“I saw Kuroo on my way here but I don’t think he saw me.”
Kenma looked at Akaashi with a confused face.
“How come he is here? His work place is far from here.” Kenma asked to himself. Akaashi understand what is going on in his head.
“I’m also confused why he is here; knowing that his work place is far from here.”
“Hmm, He informed me earlier that he will be going to Osaka.”
Kenma fetched his phone to read the message Kuroo send him earlier. He didn’t mention about coming here.
“Really? Oh, he also looked like he was waiting for someone since he was standing near on the entrance door while he kept on looking at his watch.”
“Uh maybe he was waiting for his companion to go with him in Osaka?”
“Maybe. Anyway, it is rare for you to arrive first.”
“Did I tell you that I was only here because my company needed my personal appearance?”
“Hmm, nope. You just told me that you are not doing anything today.”
“Oh, then that’s the reason why I’m here.”
Kenma chuckled as he stated the obvious and they still continued talking as if they haven’t met for years even though they meet last week. It’s been an hour passed and Akaashi needed to go back to his work. He just had a long break that’s why he asked Kenma to meet him just to kill the time. They decided to separate their way going to their own destination, Kenma to his house and Akaashi to his work place.
Kenma is on his way home when he remembered what Akaashi told him earlier that he saw Kuroo around this corner as if he is waiting for someone and there he was, just across the street. He was in a restaurant but just like what he saw last time, he was not alone. Kenma stared them and that’s when he realized that it was the same person he saw last time with Kuroo when we was on his way to his house from convenient store. They looked like they were having a date since he can see how they were enjoying each other presences. Kenma can’t watch them any longer and decided to go home straight with his mind full of questions.
“When was the time I saw Kuroo being that happy? When was the last time they went out and spend some time together? And more importantly, who is she?”
Kenma’s mind is then full of questions and slowly believing on what his mind came up. He trusts Kuroo so much but without telling him this, he started to get confused and doubting Kuroo.
“Why are you not telling me about this? Why do keep this a secret? Do you still love me, Kuroo?”
He just decided to sleep instead seeking answers of his question from Kuroo.
That was happened 2 weeks ago but today is the third and probably the last time Kenma saw Kuroo together with the same girl. It happened 3 hours ago, when Kenma invited Akaashi and Bokuto to have a dinner with him and Kuroo since it’s been a long time they spend time together. Akaashi was the first one to arrive at the house since he had a day off today while Bokuto would likely to arrive later.
Kenma asked Akaashi to join him in buying some desserts for later since he forgot to buy one. They were already picking some desserts when they both heard some laughter behind their back.
“Couple these days is always flirting in the broad daylight.” Kenma rolled his eyes when he thinks about that. He stopped what he is doing when he heard the other voice because it is quite familiar to him. He then look at Akaashi to confirm his thought and there he saw Akaashi looking back at him Both Akaashi and Kenma thought that one of the voices sounds so familiar to them but they can’t indentify who is the owner. They thoughts were interrupted when they heard the voice of the girl behind the counter.
“Is that it, sir?”
“Yes, thank you.”
Kenma suddenly felt cold when he now identified who is the owner of that voice. He wanted to tell Akaashi but he want to confirm it first, so he turn around and there, Kenma saw who the couple behind them. He freeze in his spot and stares at them. The girl’s arm was wrapped in the guy’s waist so as the guy’s arm was in the shoulder of the girl and he was leaning to the girl since he is whispering in the ear that earned a giggles from her. The only problem is that the guy is Kuroo.
“Kuro?” Kenma can’t help himself and let a word escaped to his mouth.
The girl might hear what he said since she tugged his shirt and pointed at me. Kuroo looked at to where the girl points and both his eyes widen when he saw who is in front of him.
“K-Kitten?” Kuroo stuttered as he asked him.
Kenma was about to say something when he felt a hand wraps around his waist and dragged him away from Kuroo.
“It’s still early since there are not a lot of people here and you can do what you want. Flirt all the way in the broad daylight, Kuroo-san.” Akaashi said to him and dragged Kenma with him straight to his car.
“Wait!” Kuroo followed them but when he was outside, they left.
Akaashi just parked his car in the driveway of their house when Kenma went straight inside to the house.
“Kenma!” Kenma didn’t hear Akaashi and continue walking. Akaashi followed Kenma and he found him in his room with a luggage in the middle of the bed.
“Hey Ken, are you sure about this? Maybe you should talk.”
“There’s nothing to talked about, Ji.” Kenma knows that. He will talk to Kuro maybe later when his mind is not a mess. The only thing Kenma can think of to packed all his things and leave this house. “ I already saw enough.” Akaashi was confused on what Kenma meant about what he said earlier.
“This is the third time I saw him with that girl, Ji. It is already enough for me to do this.” Kenma added as he still continued putting his clothes in the bag. “Ji, I need a favor. Can you help me packed my computer? The boxes are just in the cabinet in my streaming room.” Akaashi just nods at him and went to Kenma’s streaming room and packed his computer. After 2 hours, they were finished. They already put Kenma’s things in his car and some are in Akaashi. Kenma told Akaashi to go first and he will just follow him later. He just needs to talk Kuroo first.
It’s now 3 hours passed since that incident; Kenma is sitting on the couch as his mind full of question when he hears the front door opened and a running footsteps towards to where he is.
Kuroo stands on the doorway of the living room and saw Kenma sitting on the couch with his head down.
“Kitten.”
Kuroo didn’t receive an answer so he went straight to Kenma.
*WARNING: SWEARING*
“Who is she?” Kenma asked Kuroo as his head still down.
“Kitten.”
“Answer me! Who the heck is she?!” Kenma can’t hide his frustration.
“Kenma, please just listen to me first.”
“Damn it Kuro, just tell me who the heck is she?! TELL.ME WHO.IS.SHE?” Kenma raised his voice which is rare for him to do.
“She is our new co-worker.” Kuroo didn’t had a choice and told Kenma who is she.
“Why didn’t you tell me about her?”
Kuroo was taken back and think how to answer him. He then realized why he did not told Kenma about her. Kuroo just hang his head down, not knowing what to tell him.
“You want to explain right? Then do it.”
Kuroo sighed since he didn’t know what to start, where and how but decided the most clichéd thing to do.
“It’s not what you think, Kitten.”
“BULLSHIT! IT’S WHAT I THINK IT IS, KURO!” Kenma looked at Kuro. “You’re not supposed to here. You said that you will arrive later then how come you’re here right now?!”
“They decided to take the earlier trip.” Kuroo tries to explain.
“And you didn’t bother to tell me?” Kenma is still staring with Kuroo.
“I was about to but-“
“But what?” Kenma interrupts him. “You forgot?! Kuro, for the whole damn travel you forgot even though you had your own personal time!”
Kuroo wanted to speak something but he didn’t know what he will going to tell Kenma.
“Fine, let’s just say you literally forgot but you should just inform me the time you arrived.” Kenma added.
“We went straight to the office and I don’t have time to message you.” Kuroo lower his head while he bites his lips. Kenma laughs in his mind since he already know Kuroo is lying. This is his habit when he lies.
“Oh yeah?! Office huh?”Kenma bites his lips and close his eyes as he tries to calm his self. “Kuro, we both knew that your workplace is 40 minutes away from that café and just a block away from station.” Kenma said in low voice just enough for him to hear. Kuroo was about to tell you something. “Stop making stories Kuro. Just tell me the truth. I only needed the truth.” Kenma is now looking outside, staring the leaves slowly falling from the branch down to the ground.
They were wrapping by silence and looks like no one of them dares to talked. Kenma feels the couch sank beside. Kuroo sat beside him.
“You know what Kuro, this is not the first time I saw you with her. This is actually the third time.” Kenma decided to tell Kuroo everything. Kenma needs an answer now.
“What?” Kenma heard Kuroo’s low voice as if he is talking to himself.
“Yes, Kuro. Third time already.” Kenma still looking outside then he close his eyes as if he tries to remember the encounter. He waits for Kuroo’s response but he only hears nothing so he decided to continue.
“It was two months ago. I was on my way to convenient store when I saw you with her going out from a pub.” Kenma paused for a while. “My mind that time started making on assumptions but I decided to think that maybe, just maybe, you guys had a company dinner so I went home. Just when I almost arrived, I suddenly remembered that you already had a company dinner and that’s also when I realized that it was only the two of you were going out on that pub.” Kenma unconsciously play the hem of the pillow beside him. “Decided to ignore it but when you arrived home and saw that lipstick mark on your shirt, my assumptions that I made earlier was coming back.”
“You should tell me about it Kenma.”
“I already ignore it that it was nothing but a company dinner even you didn’t inform me about her because I trusted you.” Kenma looks at Kuroo . “I trusted you and think that it was only a one time.” Kenma chuckles to himself then looks again outside. “But I was wrong.” Kenma takes a deep breath. “I saw you again with her two weeks ago.”
“Two weeks ago?” Kuroo asked as he tries to remember.
“Hmm, its Akaashi told me at first that you were waiting for someone and I just told him that maybe you were waiting for you companion.” Kenma explain to Kuroo. “But when I was on my home, there I saw you with her in the restaurant.” Kenma finally looked at Kuroo again. “You were so happy that time, laughing as if it is your last day with her. I saw that look that as if she is your world just like you look at me when we started going out.” Kenma smiles bitterly as he remembers those things. “So Kuro, can you tell me why? Why you do this?” Kenma look at Kuroo’s eyes as he asked that to him.
Kenma saw guilt in Kuroo’s eyes but he ignores it, he needs to continue talking and asked him more questions. He then saw Kuroo about to talk but decided to interrupt him again this time.
“I know Kuro, we rarely now go out on dates, acting as if I didn’t care for you, not showing my affection to you but I do. You know me well that’s how I am. I can’t think any reason why you did that or maybe you get tired to me that is why.”
“Then why?! Tell me!” Kuroo paused for a while. He really didn’t know why he did that.
They both stay silent for a while. Both thinking on how come they ended up like this. People know them; they were the most domestic couple they encounter.
Kenma is standing up and slowly walking towards the door.
“Kuroo, did you still remembered the promise we made?” Kuroo nods. “So you understand why I reacted like this?” Kuroo nods again. “I made you promise that when the time comes that you will fell out of love, you just tell me and not doing this behind my back. I can accept it and understand if you just tell in my face not like this. I felt betrayed.” Kenma paused.
“I’m sorry, Kitten. I’m sorry. Please give a second chance. Let me fix this.”
“I’m sorry but I can’t. You broke the trust I gave to you and I don’t know if I can trust you again.” Kenma looked around the house for one last time. “Many questions are running inside my head right now.” Kenma leave his spare key in the house on the table and went to the door.
“Hey Kuro, tell me. Am I not enough?” Kenma looked back again and saw Kuroo’s shock face. He saw Kuroo’s head shaking sideways. “But your action state otherwise.” Kenma smiles bitterly. “Goodbye, Kuroo.”
Kenma didn’t wait for Kuroo and went for his car then starts the engine. His tears are now falling again as he drove away from that house and away from the person who he truly loves.
