Work Text:

Ranboo had never been more filled with the urge to protect and to provide as he had in that moment. It was almost overwhelming; the pang he felt in his heart, the ache he felt in his stomach, as he watched Tubbo tiredly rub the sleep out of his eyes next to him. His hair was stood up in every direction, and his fluffy ears were pressed against his head. His nose and cheeks were flush pink, almost unnoticeable because of the pink scars covering his face, though Ranboo noticed it anyway, just like how he noticed every small detail about his husband.

Tubbo let out a soft moo, and snuggled up closer to him.

He had never felt more breathless and in love.

“Good mornin’,” he whispered softly.

Tubbo hummed in reply, and Ranboo wondered if he was even awake. He felt a tug in his heart as he thought about just how much trust Tubbo had in him at that moment, and just how far they had come. He didn’t know why, and he never pushed for answers, but when they had first become close, Tubbo refused to sleep near him. He was always on high alert. It was a stark contrast to the Tubbo sleeping next to him, and he couldn’t help but feel proud to know that Tubbo had trusted him of all people.

After a few moments of silence, and Ranboo himself almost dozing off, he heard Tubbo groan.

“G’morning, Boo,” he mumbled.

Ranboo laughed slightly as Tubbo snuggled up even closer to him, practically pressing his face against Ranboo’s arm. “You sure you’re awake?”

“Shu’up.”

He smiled at that, knowing that if Tubbo was fully awake, he would have rolled his eyes and punched him in response. He could almost visualize it, and felt himself smiling even wider at the thought.

After another moment of silence, Ranboo sat up. “What d’you want for breakfast?”

Tubbo hummed in response, thinking to himself. “Dunno. I’ll probably jus’ have some toast. Gotta get up soon ‘nd get ta working on the outpost.”

Ranboo frowned at that. Work?

“Well, at least let me treat you to somethin’ nice for breakfast.” As he began to stand up, he felt Tubbo grab his arm, keeping him from getting up. “Tubboooo,” he said, drawling out the last letter. “‘ve gotta make us somethin’ ta eat.”

“My pillowwww,” he whined, pouting. “Come back to me, beloved!”

“Is that really all I am ta you?” Ranboo tried his best to sound hurt, though even he could hear the fondness in his own voice. “First all I am is money, now I’m just your pillow?”

“Mhm!” Tubbo confirmed, giggling to himself.

Whatever Ranboo’s response would have been immediately died in his throat as he saw Tubbo. Tubbo, who was sitting up, and trying his best to pout at him, though it was obvious he was fighting off a grin. Tubbo, whose cheeks were puffed up from having just woken up. Tubbo, who was still grabbing onto his arm.

He shook his head, zoning back in. “‘ve gotta make us breakfast, Bee. We kinda need ta eat, y’know?”

“But I need you!” He whined, scrunching up his nose the way he knows makes his husband weak.

Ranboo groaned. “This should be considered emotional manipulation!”

“Well, maybe,” Tubbo drawled out, “if you weren’t so in love with me, it wouldn’t work.”

“Oh, shut up!” Ranboo rolled his eyes. “You’re lucky I’m even makin’ you breakfast, at this point.” He said, finally making his way to the door of their bedroom.

On his way out, he felt something soft hit his back. “Close the door on your way out!” Tubbo yelled, grinning cheekily, with exactly one less pillow on the bed.

Ranboo shook his head to himself as he complied, shutting the door. His cheeks hurt from smiling so much. This is who I’m in love with, huh.
