Work Text:
As Kara wakes up, she sees her cousin, in his famous Superman suit.
But everything doesn’t seem right, as she sees multiple of him.
“Hey.” He says softly, and the many copies vanish, and she sees his face clearly.
“Woah.” She says, her eyes focusing. “ Am I dreaming? What happened? I don't remember anything after...” She stops for a moment, looking around while laying down on the soft bed.
Lyla.
“Lyla.” She whispers as she sits up, almost instantly her head going to Clark’s shoulder.
“You're safe now.” He whispers, and she pulls away. He wipers away a tear, and she puts her hand on his face, touching a scratch.
“It's nothing. Just a scratch.” He assured her, smiling softly.
“I remember dreaming, a horrible nightmare. All I wanted to do was get home.” She moves out of his embrace, looking up at him. “I did terrible things.”
“Darkseid lives for manipulation. He has hypnotists, scientists and sadists...whose only functions are to break your spirit. Darkseid is evil.” Clark states.
“But did he influence me?” Kara asks in all seriousness. “Or just bring out a darkness that is already there?”
He pulls her into another embrace, her head being pulled into his chest.
“You're here with me.And you're okay. Nothing else matters.” He starts, his voice a whisper, before continuing. “You said to me once you didn't wanna be anybody's champion. When you're strong, there's somewhere I want to take you. Where you can be safe. Where you can fit in. Where you can just be yourself.”
He probably doesn’t know how much she needs this embrace; it’s almost as if her life depends on it, so she stays there, maybe for hours, but for a long time, hugging her cousin who she thought she would never see again.
Maybe she had a certain darkness, but everyone did.
That was her.
She was Kara Zor-El, the last daughter of Krypton.
and she would live up to her name.
