It was a silly idea. Honestly.
Both Roy and Riza were out, and Ed was bored and starting to get hungry.
He had searched the whole house for bread, but they seemed to be out, and Edward really didn’t want to go out and buy some bread. He had used up his social interactions for the week.
It was when he checked the pantry, when he got his silly little idea. He had noticed the flour and the yeast on the shelves, and it came to him.
Edward liked to think of himself as a scientist, and baking was just edible chemistry, so he was sure that his hypothesis would work out.
It was simple, really. Gather all the ingredients for bread, clap his hands and boom. Bread. Easy as
pie
bread.
Now he did run into a problem. He had absolutely no idea what ingredients went into bread. He could guess, but what kind of scientist did that. (A lot probably, but why would he guess when he could find a recipe?).
“Hey Al!” Edward called out to his brother, who was... somewhere.
The dirty blonde head, peaked out of the terrace door “Yeah, what's up?”
“Do you know if there are any baking books in this house?”
“Uhm, no, why?” Alphonse questioned.
“I want to try something.” Edward replied.
“Why not just google what you need?” Alphonse asked.
“I don’t trust recipes form mommy blogs.”
“I can look in the library if you want.” Alphonse offered, it still baffled Ed that Roy and Riza had a library, that was filled to the brim with books. Not that he was complaining, it was where Ed was before he realised he was getting hungry.
“Sure, I’ll see if there is anything in the kitchen.”
And with that the brothers went to work.
Edward looked through the kitchen to see if there were any bread recipes there.
A few minutes later Ed let out a triumphant “Ah HaH!” as he pulled out a recipe book from the shelf above the fridge (he had to get on top of a stool to get it but we’re not going to talk about that). There were a lot of cookbooks on that shelf.
“Al! I found it!” Ed called out, he could hear Alphonse’s soft footsteps coming in his direction.
“So what are you planning to do?” the younger brother asked.
“I’m making bread” Edward replied as he opened the book, finding the bread recipe on page 7.
“Now let's see, water, sugar, yeast, salt, oil and flour.” He mumbled the ingredients.
“Can I help?” Alphonse asked, putting on his puppy dog eyes for good measure.
“Sure, you can go get the measuring tools while I find the ingredients.”
They both quickly got to work, finding all that they needed and measuring the ingredients.
“I can't wait for the bread to be done baking, I’m super hungry!” Alphonse mentioned, as Edward started straying from the recipe they had found.
“Uhm, what are you doing?” Alphonse asked as Edward poured all the ingredients into a single bowl.
“I’m doing an experiment!” Ed replied, completely focused on his task.
“And that is...?”
“Baking with alchemy!” Edward replied with excitement, almost out of character. But then again, this was Edward Elric, a prodigy obsessed with alchemy and everything that comes with it.
Alphonse could only stare at his brother, and hope that the bread would turn out ok.
Once all the ingredients were in the same bowl, Ed stepped back a bit and took a breath, before clapping his hands and touching the unmixed ingredients.
Alphonse closed his eyes at the bright lights coming from the bowl.
It took a few seconds before the light show died down, and once it did, Alphonse opened his eyes and investigated the bowl.
There was bread.
In the bowl.
They had made bread from alchemy!
“Whoa Ed that’s amazing!”
“What, did you doubt me!” Ed asked with a smirk.
“Let’s eat, I'm hungry!” Al said and skipped to the fridge to grad some butter and jam.
Later that evening, both Riza and Roy came home to their two adopted boys, sleeping on the couch.
“They’re getting comfortable around the house, huh” Roy said with a soft smile.
“Hmm yes, it’s good to see them outside of their rooms.” Riza replied and planted a kiss on her husband's cheek.
“Care for a bite to eat?” She asked and turned to the kitchen.
“Oh what’s this?” She said. There was a lump covered by a towel and a note.
We made bread with alchemy, try it!

Only Riza gets to try it! The bastard needs to make his own!!!!

She removed the towel and it revealed half a loaf of bowl shaped bread. She smiled.
