The machines beep and whir around them, the distinctly uncomfortable sound of a hospital. Across the room, her dad is hooked up to tubes while his doctor, her uncle, administers yet another hypo. T’pri is twelve, but she feels so much younger, resting in a biobed, being told to eat. The reality of their mortality lingers around her, permeating her every thought. She knows what it’s like to starve. She thinks losing her dad would feel similarly—an ache that chews away at her insides, a rot that grows on everything she tries to consume. Her dad is fine, by one of those variable definitions, but one day he won’t be. She worries what will become of her when he’s not.

“Does anyone know where Deku is?” Ochako asked as she suddenly remembered about not seeing her friend enjoying the night with the rest of the class in the living room. Upon being given that question, many of the students shrugged or shook their heads. They admitted between them that it was indeed not seeing the green-haired boy nearby.
Perhaps he was in his room? If so, would it be a good idea to check on him? Sometimes Izuku overworked himself by studying to a degree even Iida thought was unhealthy. “I’m going to look for him,” Todoroki Shouto, the stoic teen, said from his spot on the couch, got up, and went to knock on the green-haired boy’s door. The bicolored boy wasn’t the only one to get up, Tsuyu and Ochako quickly followed the boy closely behind,
