He was dead. Or at least, more than likely, nearly dead.
Or, you know, if she wasn’t freaking out beyond belief, Adrien was definitely hit by an akuma.
That had to be the answer, right? Adrien was hit by an akuma. Poor Adrien, probably trying to duck underneath a park bench for safety and got hit by the akuma that was running amok. Never mind the fact that she wasn’t fully sure that that was the akuma’s power—
His eyes were closed and he wasn’t moving, that was the important part. She had absolutely no idea how to deal with it. At the moment she was supposed to be Ladybug, the savior of Paris, but how could she hold it together if Adrien, the one and only love of the savior of Paris, was lying unresponsive on a bench.
She was almost tempted to de-transform to ask Tikki, or buzz Rena mid-battle to ask what exactly she was meant to do. Nothing rational was coming to mind.
She sighed, sitting beside him on the bench, picking up his wrist and flinching as it fell limply when she let it go. Was this worth a lucky charm? The ladybugs would definitely fix it, but what if something happened to him in between, she would never forgive herself.
And the Akuma’s name? Castle. That had to mean something, that had to make some kind of sense.
Maybe it was just wishful thinking, but… True love’s kiss, you know. That was the optimistic solution, and all things considered.
Okay, not true love. Not in his case, he wasn’t even awake to agree to that assertion, but, maybe?
Oh god, what was she doing? She had to make up her mind and she had to make it up quick.
Marinette groaned, folding and refolding her red and black covered hands again and again, debating it. She didn’t want to cross any boundaries but, what if they needed Aspik? Yeah, what if they needed Aspik.
Or, again, what if someone hurt him.
She had to be strong, she had to take one for the team, she had to—You know what, fine, she was going to do it. She was going to kiss him.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug’s first kiss with Adrien, there went nothing.
She leaned over and, as quick as she could, pressed her lips into his, pulling away a mere second later. His beautiful face stayed the same, and then…
“Ah!” She exclaimed, jerking back so quickly that she almost fell off the bench. Thankfully, his hand caught her shoulder, his expression absolutely stunned. “I, uh—”
Her hands were moving faster than her mouth could when confronted with his dark red face.
“You’re welcome for saving your life, random citizen!” She quickly spat out, scooting off the bench with a grimace before hastily standing up.
“Uh…” The expression was bad, definitely bad. He probably wasn’t a fan, he probably didn’t want this to happen. He probably had his eyes on someone cooler, someone who wasn’t her, who wasn’t Ladybug—“I just fell asleep,” he said awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck. “My father’s been working me really hard, and I… Wow, that was really nice of you, I’m sorry.”
She was fairly certain she heard the earth crack. Looking at him and how obviously embarrassed he was, she even looked for said crack, a sign that the world was falling apart aside from this cataclysmic event. “Well, then…” She threw an awkward, pained smile, trying to look ever the part of the hero. “Good morning then, you uh, stay clear of Hawkmoth!”
You know, because that was a great send-off paired with an awkward wave, totally not weird to say that and just run off, touching your lips like they were some prized jewel you’d just stolen.
The funny thing was, if she turned around she would have seen Adrien doing just the same thing.
