Clink! Clink!
Lena turned back from looking at Alex, seeing Kara holding up her glass of champagne and clicking her knife against it. She had a sinking feeling this was not going to end well. Lena arched her eyebrow, critically gazing at her wife. “Yes, Kara?” She asked expectantly.
“Yeah, what do you want, punk? I’m trying to enjoy my beer here!” Alex complained. “Your wife was just fixing to explain another upgrade she gave to your suit,” she added grumpily, crossing her arms together over her chest.
“I know!” Kara beamed. “That’s why I have to give her a toast.” Kara’s blonde hair fell right into her eyes, and Lena reached up absently to brush the hair away. The superhero looked down at her wife, adoration clear on her face. “A toast to my wife, the super genius!” She exclaimed. “Lena Danvers,” She started.
Said Danvers placed her head in her hands, moaning in denial. “Babe,” she started gently, but Kara overrode her easily. Loudly, too, if the way that the other restaurant-goers looked at their table was any indication. Lena sighed dramatically even as she smiled.
“ Lena Danvers,” Kara started again. “You are easily the most beautiful woman in every room. You light up the room when you walk into it, and I know you don’t notice it, but I swear I can hear every single heartbeat skip at least once whenever you’re giving one of your speeches at L-Corp events, or even when you’re walking into CatCo.”
“Right. In. Front. Of. My. Salad.” Alex moaned with distaste. “Go be super gay somewhere else, Kara Danvers. You’re ruining my appetite.”
Kelly placed a hand on Alex’s arm. “Shush, darling. They’re having a moment.”
“That’s the problem,” Alex hissed, but was silenced by a look from Kelly.
“Go on, Kara.” Kelly encouraged her sister-in-law.
“My wife is the most brilliant, beautiful woman in this room.” Kara continued, much to everyone’s amusement. Lena was mortified. “I’m not ever going to stop falling for her, day after day after day. I love you, Lee.” She beamed as she finished, sitting down.
“Babe.” Lena said again, her eyes surprisingly misty as she leaned forward to grab Kara by the collar of her shirt, pulling her in for a kiss. “When will you ever stop trying to embarrass me?” she wasn’t uncomfortable. Or mad. She was merely amused, and it showed in her voice.
“I’ll never stop, never!” Kara replied with a laugh, leaning into the kiss happily as she returned it, scrunching her nose adorably. Lena couldn’t help but lean in and kiss the perfect scrunch. “You’re such a dork.” Lena rolled her eyes playfully at her wife.
“YOUR dork.” Kara quickly corrected her.
“All mine,” Lena agreed with a flash of teeth in her grin. “I love you.”
“And I love you.”
“And I really wish I had my appetite back.”
Kara, Lena, and Kelly all at once: “ALEX!”
