Chapter Text

Monsieur Jacques felt like something was lacking. He looked around Debonair, walking all over the shop for what was wrong. It was a cleaning day for the staff. There were no appointments scheduled. Almost all the consultants and tailors, even the interns, reported to work. The staff seemed to be sharing laughs and stories while doing their tasks. Still, something felt...missing. He stood at a random spot and crossed his arms over his chest. "Has anyone seen Chanyeol?" Monsieur Jacques asked out of the blue. All heads turned to Minseok and Baekhyun.

Minseok shrugged. He's not his friend's keeper after all. Baekhyun looked at the calendar then shrugged. "Why do you ask?" Minseok wondered.

"Doesn't he come here every two, three weeks? It's been...a month and a half. Baekhyunnie, what did you do?" Monsieur Jacques sighed.

"Me? I didn't do anything. The last time I saw him was Minseok's wedding. He's back from his honeymoon. How should I know where Park's at?" Baekhyun laughed incredulously.

"He doesn't even go here." Jieun uttered, referencing Mean Girls. Baekhyun loved that ease in, clapping for her. Jieun giggled at her attempt to be funny.

"Well, yes. It's just odd." Monsieur Jacques frowned. "Anyway, back to work."

"Speak of the devil," Minseok just saw a new email. Baekhyun looked at the screen, eyes widening. "Monsieur, I found him! Someone block Saturday's opening time to 2PM for Chanyeol. Baek, look who's engaged." Minseok zoomed in on the names.

"Whoa!" Baekhyun yelled. "Me? They booked us? Are they out of their minds?" Monsieur Jacques saw the double booking for two grooms where Chanyeol's the Best Man for both weddings again.

"They didn't even tell me. I'm hurt." Minseok pouted. Sehun and Yixing were getting married to their partners in a few weeks.

"Poor Chanyeolie. He must be so busy. The weddings are a week apart only. I hope he's still eating well." Monsieur felt bad for looking for the alpha now.

"He does. He cleaned my fridge already." Baekhyun snorted as he wiped the marble counter. All those who heard his remark stopped to look at him. Baekhyun saw the eyes watching him. He slipped. Hard.

"Ahh, he doesn't need to go here because he went straight to the source. He crashes your place now, B?" Minseok arched his brow with a knowing smile. Baekhyun's ears gave him away.

"Sex education, senior!" Jieun commented from the other room.

"For the love of God, we are not sleeping together!" Baekhyun clarified.

"B's not sleeping with who?" All heads turned to the door. Chanyeol stood before them, looking fresh as always in his simple shirt, suit jackets, jeans, and sneakers, sporting his annoyingly handsome smirk that showed his equally annoying and adorable dimple. Monsieur Jacques summoned people so well.

"You," Minseok said directly. Baekhyun lunged at him to cover his mouth with the dirty rag. Monsieur welcomed Chanyeol happily, asking for his understanding about the mess in the shop. It was their cleaning day.

"We really aren't sleeping around...for everyone’s information. He does make really tasty beef stew though.” Chanyeol leaned on the counter Baekhyun just wiped, smiling at the omega. Baekhyun gave him a casual high five in thanks for the compliment. He barely cooked all his life, but Chanyeol challenged him. It was a success. "Anyway, did you get my booking? I just came by to confirm it personally."

"Or see Baekhyun," Jieun coughed when she passed by. Chanyeol shrugged, admitting seeing Baekhyun was a great bonus. "Date already!" She heckled from the tailor's station.

"We are!" Chanyeol mimicked her tone, heckling back at her. Baekhyun covered his face out of embarrassment as the entire shop was at a standstill. Park Chanyeol said what? They were dating? Again?

“Since when?” Minseok punched his arm, feeling so betrayed his own friends didn’t tell him. He punched Baekhyun’s arm too because they were both at fault. Nobody was telling him anything anymore since he got married.

“We weren’t obvious during your wedding weekend?” Chanyeol arched his brow with a crooked grin, definitely teasing Minseok now. “Of course you wouldn’t. Jongdae looked so breathtaking, Monsieur. Did they show you the photos?”

“They did. I noticed you two were dating just by looking at Chanyeol's hands on Baekhyunnie. Finally,” Monsieur ruffled Chanyeol’s hair then pinched Baekhyun’s cheek. “Happy for you two, really.”

The staff in the next room were all gushing and buzzing from the news. Baekhyun and Chanyeol were officially dating. Everyone seemed happy for them except Minseok. Baekhyun did a double take, seeing the worry and fear in his eyes. Chanyeol cleared his throat and invited Minseok to talk outside. Now Baekhyun was worried. Minseok might punch Chanyeol if he didn’t like what he heard from his fellow alpha.

Chanyeol switched his footing as he stood in front of Baekhyun’s only (figurative) family. He should have asked his friend first before going to Baekhyun directly, he thought. “I know you’re worried for him.”

“Yeah, absolutely terrified for you too! What are you thinking, Yeol? You’re doing it again!” Minseok scolded.

“I’ll fight for him this time. I can do it.” Chanyeol was determined. “I’m not letting anything get in between us again.”

“Yeah, you do that. Because I will forget we’re brothers if you hurt him again. Yeol, you know what's coming." Minseok warned.

“Seok, you know he’s my mate. I can’t stay away anymore. It’s burning me from the inside out.” Chanyeol’s voice cracked as he begged to be believed.

“You tell your witch mother that.” Minseok rolled his eyes. “What happened back in high school almost cost him his life, Chanyeol! You know how hard that was for him, for you, for all of us.” He was losing his mind slowly. As much as he teased them together, he really didn’t think Chanyeol would be the one to break first and jump over the wall that was built between him and Baekhyun. Chanyeol kept his head down, contrite. “Did you even tell him about what’s coming?”

Chanyeol looked at Minseok and shook his head frantically. “That’s never going to happen, Minseok. I won’t allow it.”

“You must have completely lost your mind, Park Chanyeol! Jongin got married. I got married. Sehun and Yixing are next! How will you stop this?" Minseok laughed incredulously as he gripped his own hair. From the outside looking in, the staff and owner of Debonair became concerned. Minseok’s voice just pierced through the doors and windows. Baekhyun was about to intervene, but Monsieur Jacques told him it’s best to not interfere when alphas were talking.

“I have. I have lost my mind since he left me with a damn letter on graduation day. Can you really blame me? I had to hurt him to protect him, Kim Minseok! You know what really happened from my end. Can you really blame me if I can’t stay away from my mate who I’ve been searching for for years? He’s already here. I’ve been trying for three years to get him back. Why can’t I still have him? Why? Why are you all stopping me from making him happy?” Chanyeol’s voice cracked as tears welled his eyes. Minseok didn’t know what to do when he saw the alphas cry. Omegas were easier to console. Chanyeol cracking in front of him again was quite disarming. He was serious about Baekhyun this time, more serious than ever. “If everyone tells you you can’t have Jongdae for the rest of your life, would you allow it, hyung?”

Minseok was dumbfounded. He couldn’t imagine life without Jongdae. What was the world like without him? Minseok felt chills just trying to imagine it. He didn’t want to live in that world. Chanyeol could see in his eyes that his point came across well. “I’ll have him while I still can, hyung. I’ll make him happy while there’s time. I didn’t ask him to take me back or jump in a relationship with me. He only agreed to go on dates with me because he didn’t want to eat dinner alone. He didn’t want to spend his Sundays alone, and I just lived above him. We didn’t feel the need to tell everyone because it’s very noncommittal.” Chanyeol explained their dating premise. There’s really no commitment in it. They just wanted familiar company.

“If he falls in love…”

“He won’t. He made it clear that he didn’t want to go back there again, which makes this setup easier I guess. We were just playing pretend at your wedding and extended this setup. God, I’m so stupid.” Chanyeol’s legs became weak. He crouched in front of Minseok with his elbows on his knees. Reality just crashed in his mind. He could lead Baekhyun on again. “I really am a man for hire.” Chanyeol chuckled incredulously. The joke became real.

“You assumed I was only worried for B, but I’m genuinely more worried for you, Yeol.” Minseok uttered as he watched Chanyeol process what he just set himself up to. He crouched down to look at Chanyeol’s frightened eyes.

“I don’t want to do it, hyung. I refuse to do it.” Chanyeol blubbered as he felt suffocated. “I can’t do it. I’m not doing it, hyung.” Minseok nodded, pulling Chanyeol for a hug. “I can’t live without B. I won’t even dare to live. I can’t, I don’t want to.” Minseok hushed him, aware of Baekhyun watching them now. He told Chanyeol to suck it up. They were going to drink tonight to talk about this. Chanyeol nodded, lighting up when he heard they were drinking. Alcohol really became his dear friend. They rose together and dusted their knees.

“So what happened when you left the reception?” Minseok put his defenses down to make Chanyeol relax. Baekhyun might sense them hiding something they stayed tense.

“Oh, uh, we cuddled in bed. The thunder really spooked him. Did you and Dae get rained on? It poured so hard.” Chanyeol remembered. Minseok nodded, smiling fondly at the memory. They continued to dance under the rain even if the band went inside to stay dry.

“Ah, it’s this. I want to have what you have with Dae, hyung.” Chanyeol beamed, impressed with their relationship.

“You and Baek apparently,” Minseok opened the door for Chanyeol. Chanyeol went inside the shop and locked eyes with Baekhyun. The omega smiled sweetly. Minseok checked their expressions and pushed the unsettling feeling in his gut back. This was going to end badly, maybe worse than the first time, but Minseok hoped they would make the best memories together in this second chance. He wouldn’t dare to kill the happiness in Baekhyun’s eyes. This was the happiest he’s been in a very long time.

Yixing stood in front of the big mirror, checking the navy blue Valentino suit on him. Baekhyun stood aside, waiting for his comments. His former schoolmate and Chanyeol’s close chaebol friend and former teammate was his client for the day. Yixing was a striking man from China that settled in their country for business, music, and love. The self-professed workaholic, as in the walking definition of a workaholic, finally decided to settle down with his partner. His two adorable cats were having another dad soon.

“I think this is it.” Yixing flashed his dimple, really happy about this pick. They tried on five suits before this one, but this one made the groom feel amazing. It was comfortable too. “I don’t want to take it off. Can I leave wearing this?” He snickered as he looked at the staff, Chanyeol, Minseok, and his mother on the sofa. “Baekhyun-ah, you are brilliant.” Yixing stepped down from the stand and hugged the omega. Baekhyun tensed as his cheeks blushed. No one has hugged him after finding the right suit before.

They settled the payment right away and booked for a second fitting in case there would be alterations needed. Yixing wanted to shed a few more pounds before the wedding too. Chanyeol was looking for suits on the racks, draping several over his arm like he worked there. Baekhyun neared him, hugging him from behind. Chanyeol turned his head and realized it was Baekhyun. “Need help, sir?” The omega was still on a high after making a successful sale.

“The motifs are very different this time. I think I want new ones for both occasions. The same group of friends are coming.” Chanyeol expressed. “Do you guys have white suits here? Sehun’s taste is...it’s a little...different.”

“For him or for you?” Baekhyun wanted to be sure.

“Me. He wants him and his partner to be the only ones in black.” Chanyeol rolled his eyes at the inconvenience.

“If you’re looking for white, why do you have so much black?” Baekhyun counted the hangers quickly. There were nine on Chanyeol’s arm.

“Sehun’s not coming. I’ll be fitting for him.” Chanyeol announced. Baekhyun’s loud reaction made heads turn. The Best Man was going to try and pick the Groom’s suit. This was a first for Baekhyun, actually a first for Debonair’s current team. “I’ll just send him photos while trying them on. I can reserve the selection until we make a decision, right?” Chanyeol turned to smile adorably for Baekhyun. He was abusing his VIP status too much now.

“I’ll ask Monsieur. We’re fully booked for the next few days. We need every option available.” Baekhyun stepped back, giving a professional answer. He hurried to the counter and called their boss for the VIPs' request. Minseok finished the transaction with Yixing and his mother, wondering why Baekhyun got so flustered. Chanyeol continued choosing suits on the rack as he waited for their decision. Baekhyun explained to Monsieur Jacques the situation, getting an earful for not handling it on his own. Minseok didn’t know how he’d handle the situation Chanyeol threw at them too. Many things could go wrong if someone tried a suit for someone else. It would delay the alternation process, if there would be any.

“Monsieur, I wouldn’t be calling you if I knew what to do. This is a VIP’s request.” Baekhyun tried to remain composed, but Monsieur was frustrating him. “Ugh, Park Chanyeol, you talk to him!” The omega yelled. Chanyeol rounded the cufflinks display table and held the phone. He asked for his request personally, knowing Monsieur Jacques wouldn’t refuse him.

“I know you’re fully booked for the next few days, Monsieur. We’ll give our decision by tomorrow, latest. That’s all I ask. Please don’t get upset with Baekhyun. And I’m sorry, Sehun couldn’t be here personally today. Something came up.” Chanyeol spoke professionally. He hung up the phone and shrugged. “Hold the ones I choose until tomorrow. I’ll just try these on.” Minseok pushed Baekhyun to follow the client. Minseok pushed Baekhyun to do it. Yixing and his mother chuckled at them as they took a seat on the sofa again. Baekhyun and Minseok had to play rock paper scissors to decide on who would be attending Chanyeol. Minseok won, kicking Baekhyun’s butt to the dressing rooms.

Baekhyun paced back and forth nervously in front of Chanyeol’s door. His mind was blank but his heart was racing. Chanyeol pushed the door open, asking the Consultant what he thought of it. Would it look good on Sehun? Baekhyun’s cheeks blushed immediately as he looked at Chanyeol’s eyes only. He’s seen Chanyeol in suits before, but this felt...different. Chanyeol stood tall and looked down to himself. Baekhyun knew his own problem now. He thought Chanyeol was the one getting married. That’s why this situation was so disarming for him.

“Would Sehun’s shoulders fit in this?” Chanyeol squeezed his own bicep, a little worried. Baekhyun felt his throat dry, like Chanyeol choked him, as he tried to remember what Sehun’s physique looked like.

“I-If it fits...all this…” Baekhyun gestured to Chanyeol’s upper body. “It would fit Sehun. Your arms are bigger than his. The shoulders aren’t far too off, I think. Turn around.” He got a tape measure and measured the suit on Chanyeol. “I’ll check if there’s a next size in the back. This fits you perfectly.”

“On a scale of one to 10, would this look okay on Sehun?” Chanyeol asked. Baekhyun gave it a six. They didn’t need to go out to ask others about this one or find the next size. It was not the right one. “But the shirt and the pants are fine, right?”

“Has Sehun ever tried a cumberband? His waist is pretty small, right?” Baekhyun helped Chanyeol remove the suit jacket. He licked his lips when he saw the alpha's back muscles closely.

“Maybe he can try one on the second fitting. But the shirt and pants are okay, right? I like the details on the shirt. It's textured." Chanyeol felt his left pectoral. Baekhyun just nodded as he hung the suit jacket. "I can just switch jackets so we can choose faster. Can you get some ties? Cool colors only please.” Chanyeol made it easier for Baekhyun. The omega went out to get some ties. He absolutely loved it when clients knew what they wanted. It made the job bearable.

The audience wondered why they took so long. Baekhyun was silently running in and out too. Usually, he had a few reactions or comments to excite the guests, but he was hyper focused this time. Chanyeol came out in the shirt and pants only, confusing the audience. Baekhyun returned with three ties and a new suit jacket. It was still Vuitton, but from the very expensive line tucked in the corner of the shop. Chanyeol shrugged it on and checked the fit. Baekhyun stood in front of him and tied something around his waist. He knotted the tie expertly afterwards. He pressed his hands on Chanyeol’s chest and looked up to the alpha to say he was done. Chanyeol glanced down with a smirk.

“Ready?” Baekhyun whispered. Chanyeol gave a subtle nod. The omega stepped aside and showed Chanyeol their combination picks. Yixing’s mother gasped. It was a dashing visual perfect for Sehun. Baekhyun bit his nail as he waited for comments. Chanyeol’s brows raised as he saw himself in the mirror. The output was better than he imagined. Minseok looked at Baekhyun, jaw dropped. Yixing stood in front of Chanyeol and took a photo. Chanyeol didn’t go out with every look but he sent photos to their group chat. Yixing took a photo of this one and sent it immediately. This was it. Minseok pulled his phone out, seeing the group chat. Chanyeol did the same and cracked a smile. Sehun replied quickly.

Chanyeol went down the stand and kissed Baekhyun’s head. He did his magic again. Baekhyun saw the message, very relieved. “The cumberband worked.” The omega gasped. Sehun liked it. Chanyeol touched his stomach and winced.

“I can’t breathe.” He whispered. Baekhyun hurriedly loosened the ties and apologized. He tied it tightly to see Sehun's physique somehow. No, Chanyeol was not fat. His build was just bulkier than Sehun's. The alpha really invested time and effort on his body, which Baekhyun appreciated. Chanyeol handed his card to Minseok to pay for this suit. They didn’t need to hold a selection anymore. Chanyeol went back to change as Baekhyun carried the rejected suits to a rack for ironing tomorrow. Yixing’s mother neared the omega, commending him for his taste. Baekhyun bowed to her in thanks.

“You’re a gentle one, huh?” She read Baekhyun’s energy. “But strong,” her eyes scanned Baekhyun’s face. “Your energy matches Chanyeol’s. Have you two known each other for a long time?”

“We’re all schoolmates, ma’am. I went to high school with everyone.” Baekhyun supplied. She gasped again, pleased to know that.

“So you must know Chanyeol’s Number One. Oh my, I have been dying to know who that someone was for years. Yixing and his friends would spend hours drinking and talking about Chanyeol’s Number One that got away." She snickered as she rolled her eyes at the ridiculousness of young alphas in love. "Can you give me a hint? I heard that omega had a very strong will. Chanyeol even claimed that omega was his mate.” She giggled, thinking it was cute.

“M-Mate?” Baekhyun couldn’t hide his confusion. “N-Number One?” That’s him. Chanyeol had no other one except him back in high school. Baekhyun doubted Chanyeol’s flings were that deep for him to talk about with his friends.

“Oh, you must not know then. Maybe he just shared it with Yixing and the guys from the team.” Yixing’s mother felt ashamed to have overshared.

“B, where do I put this?” Chanyeol neared them, wondering what they were talking about. He was a tad nervous actually. Yixing’s mother had a tendency to spill secrets. Baekhyun got the suit bag from him and hugged it for now. He needed something to keep him warm. “Auntie, isn’t he great?” Chanyeol smirked. She nodded, touching Baekhyun’s elbow. She felt fingers on the omega’s waist. Chanyeol’s hand was around Baekhyun’s waist already. It surprised her inside. “What were you talking about?”

“I was just telling Baekhyun-ssi about your Number One. I tried to make him tell me who it was. Maybe he had a clue since you’re all high school friends here.” She winked at Chanyeol. The alpha felt sweat drip down his back. Baekhyun looked up to Chanyeol, silently questioning him. Chanyeol’s bashfulness changed into mild confidence as he smiled kindly to Yixing’s mother.

“It’s him, Auntie. He’s my Number One. Still is,” Chanyeol confessed, knowing he had nothing to lose with the truth. Yixing’s mother was floored. The omega that shook the Park family was real. Yixing heard everything, nodding proudly for his dear friend’s courage.

“He changed.” Minseok stood beside Yixing, watching Chanyeol stand up for Baekhyun. Yixing nodded, pleased to know this.

“Chanyeolie’s all grown up now.” Yixing mumbled, taking a stolen photo of them to share with Jongin and Sehun. “He knew what he did wrong from the first time.”

“Do you really think this will end well, Xing? Everyone’s getting married too fast, don’t you think?” Minseok held some wisdom in his words. Yixing understood what he meant.

“Pressure on us chaebol alphas,” Yixing smiled sullenly. “It is what it is. It’s the new law for us chaebols to increase the birth rate. We’re just lucky we get who we want, right?”

“I wish we all do.” Minseok couldn’t take his eyes off of Chanyeol and Baekhyun. Yixing looked at the couple again, feeling gutted now.

“Hyung, I’m scared.” Yixing expressed. Minseok looked at him, empathizing. “He’ll really give up everything for Baekhyun, huh?”

“You know, they keep telling me they want what I have with Jongdae.” Minseok shared. “If only they knew we all want what they have. It’s not easy, but it’s strong.”

“Hyung, I’ll do anything for Chanyeol. You know that. Can’t they just run away?” Yixing didn’t like the sadness lingering in his heart for them.

“You really can’t run away from who you are, Xing. I know. I’ve tried. We all have.”

“We succeeded, well, compromised.” Yixing looked at his mother gratefully.

“We have better parents than Chanyeol’s. I'm at least grateful for that. Hey Xing, can you maybe squeeze in one more seat at our table?” Minseok looked at his dear friend. Yixing read his mind, nodding to his idea. He was going to ask Sehun to do the same. “We’ll show them all there’s no one who can break what the moon fated together.”

Chanyeol saw what his friends did when the wedding coordinator asked for a name for his plus one. He said no one was coming with him. Yixing received an earful from him for deciding without his knowledge. Baekhyun was going to be busy on Yixing’s wedding day also. “Okay, I’m sorry. But you have to bring him to Sehun’s wedding. He styled the groom, come on.” Yixing persisted. Chanyeol sighed, unsure of what to do. “We’ll think of something. Just wait for us to call. I’ll talk to Minseok first. Just...just...prepare yourself. I’ll ask my wife to get him a suit. We’ll make him stunning.” Chanyeol had no chance to stop them. His friends were on a mission, keeping him at arm's length. Sometimes, he wished these alphas would calm down. Just sometimes.

Code red. Code blaring red.

Baekhyun ran to Monsieur Jacques’ office and told them a big problem. Sehun’s tuxedo just ripped by the elbow. He was getting married in three hours. The wedding was on the other side of the city. Monsieur Jacques couldn’t leave the shop. He had clients all day. Minseok was already at the wedding venue, but they had no sewing kit and no backup suit. Baekhyun was given the daunting task to patch it onsite.

Baekhyun was at the train station, bouncing on his toes as he waited for the train. Travelling would take an hour and a half. He didn’t have enough time. Minseok called him, asking where he was. Baekhyun was close to crying as he went up the station. They just announced that the train was delayed. “Okay, breathe. Just stay there. I’ll...I’ll call Chanyeol. He could still be in his office.” Minseok suggested. Baekhyun sniffed as his voice wavered. This task was usually Minseok’s because he has a car. Baekhyun felt like passing out any time soon. He skipped lunch for this.

His phone rang, making him answer it quickly. “Stay where you are. I’m two stoplights away.” It’s Chanyeol. “B, it’s going to be okay. Breathe.” Baekhyun’s legs gave out when he heard Chanyeol’s voice. There was a god looking after him, Baekhyun thought. Chanyeol’s car pulled over near the station. Baekhyun got inside and hugged the alpha out of desperation. Chanyeol held him with one arm, trying not to laugh. If Baekhyun knew this was their act to make him attend Sehun’s wedding as Chanyeol’s date, he was going to sew them all together. Sehun ripped the suit on purpose.

Chanyeol drove at speed limit, weaving through traffic expertly. Baekhyun looked in the back of the car, seeing the white suit jacket and Chanyeol’s shoes on the seat. Chanyeol was more or less dressed for the occasion. “Did you come from the office?” Baekhyun wondered.

“No, I was at home. I overslept.” Chanyeol lied. He was waiting for Minseok’s call to rescue the omega. Baekhyun looked at the clock, seeing it was past 12 noon. His hunger just passed. “Do you have to get back to work after patching Sehun’s suit?” Chanyeol eyed Baekhyun’s backpack by the omega’s feet. Baekhyun said he was going home. Travelling back would eat his work hours. “Well, stay for the ceremony then. Let's go home together.”

“What? I’m not invited. I’m not crashing a wedding, Park. It’s not my style.” Baekhyun scoffed. “I’m more of a...meeting the person before the event to make him regret...kind of person.”

“Well, it's not crashing if you're with me. I have an extra seat. They always gave me a plus one. I leave it blank, of course.” Chanyeol shrugged.

“I am not filling your plus one. That just screams hoe for the night, arm candy...if we’re sensitive about censorship here.” Baekhyun chuckled.

“Are you assuming my plus ones to all these weddings were filled?” Chanyeol’s tone had a hint of playfulness. Baekhyun looked out the window, mildly jealous. “I never took anyone, B. I like flying solo.” Chanyeol explained.

“Then go to this one alone too,” Baekhyun muttered under his breath.

“Why would I when you’re with me now? I don’t force a plus one on these things because I don’t have anyone to go with. Now I do.” Chanyeol winked at him. Baekhyun groaned and pretended to gag. “Hey, you’re great company at receptions, I have to admit.”

“I’m always great company.” Baekhyun boosted his own ego. Chanyeol nodded, acknowledging it. “Even if I go, I can’t look like this. I could be mistaken as a server.” He looked at his black ensemble.

“There’s an extra shirt and tie in the back. Just tuck it in your pants. You’re pretty already. You’re all set.” Chanyeol shrugged, feeling good about this ambush plan. Baekhyun sighed and sank in his seat. He just realized they just fooled him. He fell into their trap.

“I hate you guys so much.” Baekhyun pouted. Chanyeol reached for his hand and kissed his knuckles.

“While you hate us now, I should tell you there’s more.” Chanyeol gave a dazzling smile he knew Baekhyun couldn’t resist. “I want you to come with me to a charity ball next week. Be my date too.”

“Oh my god, I need a talent fee for this.” Baekhyun laughed incredulously as he pinched Chanyeol’s cheek. Chanyeol held the wheel with both hands as he yelped in pain. “You guys planned this!”

“Can’t I go with you? We’re dating, right? Dates are not limited to home dinners and sofa movie marathons.” Chanyeol justified their actions.

“We didn’t agree on publicizing...us either.” Baekhyun ran his fingers in his hair, exasperated. “What would people think? Our schoolmates still follow our social media accounts. Oh my god, Park Chanyeol, you are causing another world war with your family.”

“What...what are you talking about?” Chanyeol didn’t expect his family to get dragged into this. Baekhyun rubbed his eyes as he tried not to cry. This felt like deja vu.

“I know.” Baekhyun whispered. Chanyeol needed a little more than just two words to understand. “I know you broke up with me because your family didn’t want me for you. The bet was with them, not your friends.” Chanyeol suddenly turned the wheel, sending them to the curb to talk. Baekhyun breathed heavily as he felt the air thinning around them.

“Who told you?” Chanyeol faced Baekhyun. “Tell me.”

“Sehun.” Baekhyun whispered as he closed his eyes. “Don’t get mad at him. Your mother came to me first.”

“My…”

“She offered to pay for my parents’ treatment. Who am I to refuse? That’s my parents. I want them to live.” Baekhyun spilled his secrets from 10 years ago.

“Wait, wait what are you saying? My mother did what? When? Why didn’t you tell me? Baekhyun, what else have they been doing behind my back?” Chanyeol was furious. Neither expected the conversation to lead to this.

Baekhyun began with an apology. 10 years ago, after Baekhyun fell down the stairs, he wanted to talk to Chanyeol and ask for an explanation for his actions. Chanyeol stopped pretending he didn’t know Baekhyun. He tried to talk to him too, but Baekhyun became scared. That fear was caused by Chanyeol’s mother. They could have mended their hearts back in high school if she didn’t interfere. She told Baekhyun to stay away from her son. Baekhyun thought it only happened in dramas and movies. No, this was real. The big juice box filled with money was a real thing.

Chanyeol continued driving in silence. He didn’t say anything after Baekhyun said he accepted money from his mother to stay away from him. Chanyeol couldn’t blame Baekhyun. His parents mattered too. They mattered more. If Chanyeol was in his position, he would have done the same. It was so cruel, Chanyeol thought. Baekhyun looked out the window through the entire ride, biting his lip to stop himself from crying or making things worse.

When they got to the wedding venue, Baekhyun got out of the car and hurried to Sehun’s suite. Chanyeol got out of the car and got his clothes and bag while the valet took his car. He ignored the greetings and went straight to Sehun’s suite. When he got there, he didn’t speak to anyone. He just sat on a chair and waited to be called to have his hair fixed. Baekhyun sewed Sehun’s suit quietly, putting all his energy to his task. With these two in the same room, Sehun, Minseok, Yixing, and Jongin looked at each other in question. The staff around them felt the energy dip too.

Chanyeol got his hair fixed while Baekhyun rose and neared Sehun. The omega told him he fixed the suit and said his congratulations. Sehun thanked him for all his help, saying he liked the cumberband a lot. It really made him look more expensive. Baekhyun forced a smile and said he was leaving. “Wait, you’re not staying?” Sehun stood up and neared the omega. Jongin looked at Chanyeol at the corner of the room. Chanyeol was busy reading a webtoon on his phone. “Didn’t Chanyeol tell you you’re his plus one?”

“He did.” Baekhyun felt ashamed to decline in front of the host of the event. “I have some things to do back at the shop.”

“Lies. I called Jieun already.” Minseok uttered from the couch. Yixing looked at Chanyeol too. He met his eye roll.

“If he wants to go, let him go.” Chanyeol uttered. Baekhyun thanked everyone for accepting him and inviting him, but he had to catch the bus. When the omega left, the alphas pounced on Chanyeol. He covered his ears and closed his eyes. “I just can’t look at him right now. He knows that.”

“What bullshit,” Jongin uttered bluntly.

“Sehun, tell me now. How much did she pay you?” Chanyeol looked at the groom sternly, confronting an underlying issue. Minseok, Yixing, and Jongin took a step back. They knew the context of that question. There was only one woman in the world Sehun got money from. Since that incident, he never did it again. He felt so guilty and burdened. Chanyeol stood toe to toe with him. No, he wasn’t going to hit him. But friendships may end once this wedding is over.

“Enough to pay for my mother’s operation,” Sehun said truthfully, waiting for this day. He knew Chanyeol would know about the money that went around back in high school. Chanyeol closed his eyes like Sehun just slapped him. He couldn’t win at all. His mother used Sehun and Baekhyun’s vulnerabilities. Chanyeol sat down and continued reading his webtoon like nothing happened. Sehun blinked repeatedly and apologized. He had no excuse to clear his name. His hands were tied at that time.

“I’m not mad at you or Baekhyun. Let’s get that clear.” Chanyeol uttered. “I just hate that you two hid it from me.”

“You hate her enough already. Why would we add to it?” Sehun explained.

“For me. You two matter to me as much as my sister and my Dad. That’s my mate that just walked out the door. He knows because your mother had to run her mouth.” Chanyeol glared at Yixing through the mirror. “You’re like a brother to me, Sehunnie. I thought you two would be the first to have my back. Just leave me alone for a while.” Chanyeol expressed, hoping his wishes would be respected.

Sehun went out to call Baekhyun back. He didn’t have to go far. The omega sat on the stairs with his head in his hands. Sehun sat beside him and rubbed his back. “We shouldn’t have taken that money, Sehun.” Baekhyun sobbed out of guilt. “They were going to die anyway.”

“Don’t say that.” Sehun wiped his tears. “We did what we had to do for our parents.”

“I’m so stupid.” Baekhyun hit his own face over and over. Sehun held his wrists to stop him. “Did you know too? Did he tell you I’m his mate?” Sehun didn’t need to answer. His eyes spoke for him. Baekhyun felt weak. All this time, everyone around him knew. He thought he was hiding it alone. He felt so disappointed with the lost time.

Minseok saw them, and told Sehun he’ll handle this. He hugged Baekhyun to comfort him. Sehun walked away, stressed about their friends. Their relationship wasn't supposed to be this difficult. People joined in and pushed them apart. Until now, there are still a few who disapproved of Chanyeol and Baekhyun's friendship.

Eventually, Sehun, Jongin, and Chanyeol left the suite to proceed with the wedding. Minseok said he was going to follow them, shielding Baekhyun from Chanyeol. Chanyeol looked over his shoulder, feeling guilty. He really hated seeing Baekhyun cry. Baekhyun kept his eyes down until the three alphas were gone.

“You should go. I’ll catch the last bus.” Baekhyun mumbled. Minseok didn’t want to leave him like this. “Hyung, I’ll be okay.” Baekhyun forced himself to smile. His pink nose, eyes, cheeks, and lips made Minseok sigh. “See Sehun get married. It’s a once in a lifetime thing.” He pushed Minseok gently, nodding to him.

Baekhyun stood by the doors, behind the huge plant as he watched the march. He saw Chanyeol standing beside Sehun, an emotional Sehun, as he shook him excitedly. Sehun’s partner was adorable. Baekhyun smiled a little as he watched. He wondered if someone would cry for him at the end of the altar too. Chanyeol was smiling now. He was teasing Sehun with Jongin. Sehun held his partner’s hands, smiling magnificently. Baekhyun clapped for them quietly, whispering his congratulations to the young alpha. He saw Chanyeol was looking at him. There was no trace of ill feelings in his eyes anymore. Chanyeol whispered something to Jongin and excused himself to leave the altar.

Sehun side eyed his groomsmen, pleased to see his Best Man leaving. That's Baekhyun's cue to run. He hurriedly tried to find his way to the lobby, but a hand held his elbow. Chanyeol stood before him in a white suit with a black bowtie and black dress pants. “Don’t go.” The alpha uttered as he caught his breath.

“I thought you said if I want to go, I can g—,”

“I’m not making the same mistake again.” Chanyeol held Baekhyun’s hands. “I’m sorry for how I reacted. I’m not mad at you for taking the money. I’m not mad at Sehun. It just pissed me off how they tried so hard to ruin...ruin us.” Baekhyun stepped forward and hugged Chanyeol. He felt that. He was pissed off too, so pissed off he couldn’t help but cry. Chanyeol had his hand behind Baekhyun’s head, holding his omega. “Don’t go. You're still my date. Even if we just play pretend,” It’s Chanyeol’s turn to ask.

Chanyeol went back to the ceremony as Baekhyun followed a woman to Sehun’s suite. She was Sehun’s secretary. Jongin wondered what happened when Chanyeol returned to the podium. He seemed happier. Best Man Chanyeol was back. He was clapping loudly, screaming when Sehun and his partner kissed. He was making embarrassing gestures on the side. Everything that made him the best Best Man appeared later in Sehun’s wedding.

Chanyeol guided the guests to the next room for the reception and photobooths. He was smiley and courteous, making many fall in love with him. Jongin and his wife went inside, inviting Chanyeol to go in with them. Minseok held Jongdae’s hand as they followed Jongin. Chanyeol gasped and hugged the showing omega. He knelt and said hello to the twins inside.

A woman in a pretty gown and a high slit neared them, calling Chanyeol’s attention. Chanyeol looked at her face attentively (not her leg), thinking she needed directions. She wanted the Best Man for other services apparently. Chanyeol stood up and looked at Minseok and Jongdae warily. “Sorry, I came with someone.” He announced and shrugged apologetically.

“Are you serious? You’re always alone in these things.” She didn’t believe him, pushing her hair back confidently to show her...chest. She’s one of Jongdae’s former teammates, a cheerleader. That’s why she noticed Chanyeol was always alone during their friends’ weddings. They had the same circle of friends. “Make a better excuse to brush me off.” She challenged, touching Chanyeol’s bicep. Jongdae was about to step in but Chanyeol felt the need to look past Minseok right now.

The alpha’s face brightened when he saw Sehun’s secretary coming back. With Baekhyun. “I’m not kidding. My date’s here.” Chanyeol excused himself and met them along the way. Baekhyun had his hands behind him, trying not to giggle as he saw Chanyeol’s expression. He had to admit, he looked really good in this top. The alpha’s mandatory breathy wow met Baekhyun. Chanyeol was impressed. Yixing’s wife really gave tons of effort on this one. It was custom-made for Baekhyun only. She’s a designer. Chanyeol gave Sehun’s secretary a high five for fixing the omega well. She excused herself and bid them a great night together.

Baekhyun was in a black kimono suit jacket with a black suede belt around his waist. There was nothing underneath that suit jacket. He was slightly shivering, but maybe because he’s nervous. Baekhyun’s hair was styled down adorably to highlight his cute face. Chanyeol couldn’t be any happier about this look. He slipped his hand around Baekhyun’s waist and walked with him.

“Is that…” The girl gasped.

“Baekhyunnie! You made it!” Jongdae giggled and opened his arms for his friend. Baekhyun hugged him carefully, saying hello to the twins inside his belly. Chanyeol just shrugged as she backed away slowly. This was shocking news. Park Chanyeol brought Byun Baekhyun as his date to his best friend’s wedding. Everyone inside deserved to know immediately. Minseok bumped fists with Chanyeol, commending him for keeping Baekhyun from leaving. He was truly fighting for them now.

Minseok and Jongdae went inside first. Chanyeol couldn’t take his eyes off of Baekhyun. He was ecstatic to have him like this. Baekhyun clung to Chanyeol, feeling excited and nervous at the same time. He was going to see so many familiar faces tonight. It was daunting. Chanyeol went inside with Baekhyun with the most handsome smile he could make. He was fucking proud of himself right now.

Jongin stood up to wave them to their table. He covered his mouth in shock when he saw Baekhyun with Chanyeol. Yixing and his wife were pleasantly surprised that the clothes fit him well. Sehun’s attention turned to Chanyeol, standing up in shock too. It made other guests look at what he saw. Chanyeol successfully convinced Baekhyun to stay. Murmurs and gasps erupted around the room. Sehun and his husband’s families seemed confused about the scene.

“Three points, Park Chanyeol!” Jongin hollered when the shocking couple of the night got to their table. Chanyeol smacked his head for being too loud. “Whoa, you’re stunning, B!”

“You’re Baekhyun? Hi! I heard so much about you.” Jongin’s wife stood up and hugged him. Baekhyun blushed at the warm welcome. Chanyeol rubbed his nape bashfully as his other friends crowded him. It was one thing to post their photo during Minseok’s wedding, but bringing Baekhyun to another wedding felt like something was going on.

Baekhyun and Jongdae went to Sehun and his husband, congratulating them. Sehun’s husband was so starstrucked. Chanyeol’s Number One wasn’t a made up lie. He couldn’t believe Chanyeol managed to catch this omega’s heart. He even asked what Chanyeol fed him to agree to be his date. Others who knew Baekhyun started to crowd him. Random questions were thrown at him. Baekhyun really didn't know what to tell them. They were all talking about marriage, the law, looking for a ring, asking for parents' reactions. It was quite overwhelming.

Chanyeol didn’t like the attention all over Baekhyun. He excused himself from his friends and got to his side. Baekhyun held his hand immediately, seeing Chanyeol like a light at the end of a dark tunnel. Everyone was suffocating him. Chanyeol excused them for a moment to grab a drink or a bite. Baekhyun smiled beautifully as he tried to breathe, trying to fit in at this rich event.

“Suddenly everyone wants to be your friend. Strangers want your number, asking if you're a rising celebrity. I'm a little jealous, B.” Chanyeol dabbed his wrist on Baekhyun’s sweaty forehead.

“I think I heard more apologies just now than in my entire life.” Baekhyun chuckled. They reached the bar, checking the list of drinks.

“Stay away from margaritas.” Chanyeol reminded him of their taco night.

“I’ll have a margarita.” Baekhyun said cheekily. Chanyeol cursed playfully as he scoffed. He was going to have to guard Baekhyun and his low alcohol tolerance again. “What will you have?”

“Why do you drink so much when I have to drive?” Chanyeol puffed an annoyed breath. “Beer’s fine.” The bartender got to work while Chanyeol kept the omega in his arms. They talked privately, whispering their responses to each other’s ear. One particular whisper tickled Baekhyun’s neck. He hit Chanyeol’s chest playfully, making him apologize. Baekhyun sipped his margarita and let Chanyeol drink from the same glass. Chanyeol nodded, saying it was sweeter than he thought. Baekhyun nodded, downing it with an empty stomach. He knew he was screwed in a few minutes.

Throughout the reception, Baekhyun was stuck to Chanyeol. Chanyeol mingled with friends and guests, introducing the omega as his date. To his former teammates, Baekhyun was his Number One. Baekhyun became a man of few words but reacted well to conversations. Chanyeol felt so relaxed, many noticed. He looked so in love. Majority of the guests wondered why the omega wasn't at Yixing's wedding a few weeks ago. Some pieced together that they met at Minseok's wedding. Others remembered that Chanyeol and Baekhyun dated back in high school.

Baekhyun heard a circle near them talking about it. He felt uncomfortable. Chanyeol sensed his discomfort and kissed his hair to call his attention. Baekhyun looked at him innocently and whispered if he was bothered. The alpha heard that circle too. Baekhyun tucked his face to Chanyeol's neck. Chanyeol excused them to dance instead. Music was better to hear than gossip. Chanyeol swayed them together, saying tonight was Seniors' Night. If Minseok's wedding was prom, tonight was Seniors' Night. Baekhyun giggled and said thanks for bringing him to the dance.

"I should've asked you right away." Chanyeol expressed his regret. He was still pissed off with Kim Junmyeon, Baekhyun's date that night.

"Well, it wouldn't go well. I wasn't allowed to go near you." Baekhyun stuck his tongue out playfully.

"If she didn't talk to you, you think we could've tried again?" Chanyeol wondered. Baekhyun nodded.

"You don't know how many times I wanted to give in to you." Baekhyun pouted.

"So why are you resisting me now?" Chanyeol arched his brow with a smile. Baekhyun thought adorably.

"I want...to be sure." Baekhyun didn't know how else to put it. Chanyeol nodded, finding it valid. "This pretty face fooled me once. I'm not letting this blind me again." He narrowed his eyes, pretending to be vicious. Chanyeol gave a breathtaking grin and kissed Baekhyun's forehead.

"Take me back or not, you're still my favorite sight. I still hope you do. I have big plans for us." Chanyeol teased. Baekhyun rolled his eyes and sighed. “Being away from you made me think.”

“About what?” Baekhyun whispered, feeling sleepy. It’s just so comfortable in Chanyeol’s arms.

“Can mates live apart for the rest of their lives? What were you doing? Were you happy? Were you seeing someone? If yes, were you treated well? Should I buy a Basketball arcade machine?” Chanyeol let his wayward thoughts free.

“You should buy that machine.” Baekhyun controlled his smile. Chanyeol agreed, sending them in a round of giggles. “I have no answer to your first question, but there’s...there’s no one after you.” He confessed. “It just...wouldn’t be fair to whoever would want to get tangled up with this.” Baekhyun looked at himself. “You...you probably had a few. College must have been wild for you.”

“I was behaved.” Chanyeol nodded like a good boy. “There was one, but he cheated on me. I think...he has six kids already?” Baekhyun’s eyes widened. “To different people,” Chanyeol’s nose scrunched.

“Dodged that bullet, huh? Did he fool you to think it’s yours?” Baekhyun wanted to know more. This was some drama level type of dilemma. Chanyeol said that one tried, but they never took things to bed. “But you did get laid, right?”

“Why would you want to know?” Chanyeol narrowed his eyes adorably. Baekhyun looked away, cursing his mouth for being active. “Reference?” Chanyeol kissed his cheek. “I did.”

“Thanks for lessening my guilt.” Baekhyun mumbled, subtly admitting he did too. Chanyeol smoothened the crease between the omega’s brows.

“Don’t mind the past. They don’t matter. No need to be jealous.” Chanyeol mumbled, amused. Baekhyun denied he was jealous. He didn’t have a right to because they were nothing. “You can be jealous now. We’re dating, remember?”

“No commitments.” Baekhyun reminded him. Chanyeol nodded, knowing that clearly.

“Just company,” Chanyeol whispered. Baekhyun’s eyes glanced at Chanyeol’s lips. Chanyeol felt what he wanted, but didn’t push it. It was Baekhyun who tilted his chin up slightly. It was permission. Chanyeol leaned in slowly, head empty and heart racing. Baekhyun gripped the alpha’s lapels, anticipating.

“Yeol-ah!”

Baekhyun suddenly leaned back as Chanyeol looked away, wanting to curse at whoever just ruined the moment. The omega buried his face to Chanyeol’s neck out of embarrassment. He was laughing softly at their failed attempt. Chanyeol’s frustration disappeared upon hearing Baekhyun’s laugh.

“Yeol-ah! You have to say your speech now, I think.” Jongin was the one who ruined their moment. Chanyeol sighed and nodded, waving him off with a hand. Jongin had a wicked smile on his lips. He did it on purpose. Chanyeol mouthed his bad words to his friend, who just held up peace signs. Baekhyun looked up to the alpha with a big smile on his face. He found the ruined moment so funny.

“What are you laughing about?” Chanyeol was so confused. Baekhyun was still giggling like crazy. “Tell me.” Chanyeol couldn’t help but be affected.

“We should’ve saved that for later.” Baekhyun looked around subtly, noticing many were still looking at them. “They might think we’re getting married next.”

“I would be fucking thrilled.” Chanyeol beamed. “But you’re not ready.” Baekhyun glared at him. “I thought you wanted to be sure of me first.” Chanyeol challenged.

“You’re so annoying, Park Chanyeol.” Baekhyun sassed. His defenses were up. Chanyeol was used to this. He got criticisms and insults as Baekhyun hid his mistakes.

“You love me.” Chanyeol snuck a kiss to his cheek. Baekhyun rolled his eyes with a smile.

“Go. Go be the Best Man now.” Baekhyun had both hands over Chanyeol’s chest. Chanyeol couldn’t help it. He kissed Baekhyun’s nose lightly, making Baekhyun scrunch his face adorably.

“Am I not?” Chanyeol flirted.

“You’re still the best, Chanchan.” Baekhyun couldn’t keep his guards up anymore. He was falling in love all over again. It was pretty dangerous yet thrilling. Chanyeol radiated happiness. He was still crazy for Baekhyun even after 10 years. It didn’t seem like he was stopping anytime soon either. From the outside looking in, if they wanted what Minseok and Jongdae had in a relationship, many wanted to have what they had now. Many wanted to be genuinely happy.

Sadly, they couldn’t stay in their own bubble the whole night. Chanyeol was still the Best Man of this wedding. Baekhyun sat with Jongdae, Minseok, Jongin, and his wife, hearing Chanyeol’s speech that embarrassed the shit out of Sehun. Sehun’s partner was dying of laughter as Chanyeol went on and on about Sehun’s failed attempts to court him. Sehun went behind the chair to hide for a moment. Chanyeol ended his speech with a heartwarming memory of Sehun. He watched Sehun grow up more than anyone. Seeing he got married first, Chanyeol felt so proud of him. He wished them a happy life together, and promised to stay out of their apartment from now on. Or at least knock.

Sehun hugged Chanyeol, thanking him for everything. His partner hugged Chanyeol too, saying he will be happy someday too. This made some guests look at Baekhyun. Chanyeol made a toast, but didn’t drink it. He still had to drive him and Baekhyun back home. Baekhyun clapped for the Best Man when he returned beside him. He could see why Chanyeol’s a popular choice among his friends. He was eloquent, funny, charming and heartwarming.

Chanyeol relaxed and finished his meal. His job was done. He could enjoy the night or go home if he wanted to. Baekhyun listened to the other speeches with his hand in Chanyeol’s. Chanyeol didn’t mind eating with one hand. Once the Best Man was full, he looked around the table. No one was paying attention anymore. Chanyeol asked Baekhyun to step out with him for a while. Baekhyun nodded, following Chanyeol to the garden. They did their best to ignore the following eyes.

They sat on a bench and looked around silently. Chanyeol’s knee bounced to control his anxiety. Baekhyun looked at the alpha, admiring him openly. Chanyeol felt slightly conscious. He tried to hide his face but Baekhyun peeked below. They looked like two crushes finally having time to talk to each other. “You did well, Best Man.” Baekhyun cut the awkwardness. The alpha thanked him for the compliment before the silence stretched again.

“You’re really stunning, B. This is one of your best looks.” Chanyeol sighed, content with this night. He had nothing better to say. “I’m really lucky.”

“You bet.” Baekhyun sassed. Chanyeol poked his sides to tickle him. Baekhyun was once again trapped in Chanyeol’s embrace. He leaned on the alpha and let his mind go blank. Life would have been better if they were like this, he thought. Still, he wasn’t ready to jump into a relationship with Chanyeol. Something still guarded his heart. He was still hesitant about something. Maybe he’s just not brave enough to forget everything and move on.

“Thank you, B.” Chanyeol whispered. “You made my dream come true tonight.”

“How so?” Baekhyun looked at him, serenity written all over his face.

“I get to show you off, hold you like this while I still can. We both don’t care about tomorrow. Can we make time stop? I want to stay here with you forever.” Chanyeol expressed sappily.

“You and your smooth romance,” Baekhyun rolled his eyes with a smile. “I’m not falling for it, Park.” But he already has.

“I wish you would.” Chanyeol kissed Baekhyun’s hair. “I wish you’d fall for me again.” Baekhyun pulled Chanyeol’s arms tighter around him. “It’s crazy. You’re my mate but I can’t have you.”

“It gets painful sometimes.” Baekhyun winced as he adjusted his position. “Do you feel it too?” Chanyeol nodded slightly. “When did you know?”

“2nd year,” Chanyeol whispered. “When we first kissed,”

“For real?” Baekhyun had his finger over his own lips, very amused right now. “We felt it at the same time then.” Chanyeol’s eyebrows raised. “Cool, right?” Baekhyun whispered, finding it amazing.

“Hyunnie, can you tell me something?” Chanyeol wanted to know the answer to this for a long time. “Did you really love me?”

“Yes.” Baekhyun said without hesitation. He looked at Chanyeol’s eyes and smiled serenely. “I couldn’t stop even if I tried. No matter how big your mom offered me. I can stay away, but I still have to see you. I...I asked to be a sports journalist for the school paper to cheat.” Baekhyun admitted, finding it funny. Chanyeol felt his ears ringing. They wasted so much time because of others. They have always worried about others, that their happiness was placed last on the list. Baekhyun wanted to say more, but Chanyeol’s face neared slowly. He ran out of words as they ran away from his mind to take cover. Chanyeol was going to kiss him. This was his second attempt. What a brave, brave alpha Chanyeol was.

“Do you still love me?” Chanyeol whispered against his lips. Baekhyun gripped Chanyeol’s sleeve in anticipation. Their eyes almost crossed as they looked at each other, finding answers. Baekhyun couldn’t speak. He couldn’t say yes because it was going to open a whole new world of possibilities and pain. Chanyeol couldn’t wait anymore. He closed his eyes when their lips touched. Baekhyun closed his eyes, relaxing to the feeling of his mate’s lips on his.

If the first time was like a spark zapping them, this was fireworks. If the first time was awkward and unsure, this was confident. They were confident they still had feelings for each other. If they didn’t, one of them would have pushed each other by now.

The kiss was patient and gentle. Chanyeol didn’t move until he felt Baekhyun’s soft sigh. It’s still the same as their first. Chanyeol’s brows furrowed as he deepened their kiss. Baekhyun’s hand rested on Chanyeol’s cheek. They pulled back only to kiss hungrier than the last. Baekhyun’s head leaned back slightly when Chanyeol’s force overwhelmed him. He held on to the lapels of Chanyeol’s suit, keeping him close. “I never stopped loving you, B. It’s driving me crazy.” The alpha said against Baekhyun’s lips. Baekhyun opened his eyes to see Chanyeol’s need and longing. They kept kissing until they ran out of breaths. This was the defying defining point in their relationship.

Yixing and Jongin were smoking near where Chanyeol and Baekhyun sat. Jongin saw them first, tapping Yixing’s shoulder to look. “They deserve it.” Yixing smiled.

“Atta boy, Park.” Jongin smirked, proud of their friend for sticking his guns and standing up for his omega. Apparently, that’s what Chanyeol lacked. Yixing, Minseok, Jongin, and Sehun got what they wanted because they fought for it. Chanyeol was not the only one who had a tough time with love. It was all of them chaebols. In a life where expectations and reputations mattered more than happiness, they really had to fight anything and everyone for happiness.

“You still love me?” Baekhyun looked so beautiful with his cheeks flushed and his lips swollen. Chanyeol nodded, sneaking a peck.

“You don’t have to say it back. I’m not expecting you to. At least...at least I know I’m not the only one. I can feel you still have feelings for me, Hyunnie.” Chanyeol kissed his cheek and hugged him. Baekhyun felt so overwhelmed. Why was Chanyeol so kind? Baekhyun felt bad for making him wait longer. It’s clear they still loved each other. Baekhyun was just waiting for something, but he didn’t know what it was.

One kiss sparked a flame that became too big to extinguish. At the Nimbus Tower parking floor, Baekhyun and Chanyeol waited for the elevator in B2. Chanyeol filled Baekhyun in on the history of Sehun and his partner. He went to a wedding without knowing the newlyweds. Baekhyun nodded and reacted to the stories, tearing a 4-panel photostrip in the middle cleanly. He handed one half for Chanyeol to keep. The alpha got his phone out of his pocket and slipped it under the clear case. He pocketed it nonchalantly.

Baekhyun held on to his half, showing Chanyeol how cute they were. His panels had their wacky faces beside each other and a candid one of them laughing after that shot. Chanyeol’s eyes were closed as his nose bridge wrinkled. Baekhyun’s face was buried to the side of Chanyeol’s neck, but his gorgeous smile was seen. Chanyeol just smirked, admiring the omega beside him.

In the elevator, they stood apart, still talking about their friends. The elevator eased to a stop at Baekhyun’s floor quickly. It was past midnight anyway. Most tenants were probably asleep. Chanyeol said goodnight to him with a salute. Baekhyun stepped out backwards, smiling for Chanyeol only. He really had a great night with him. Chanyeol adjusted his stance to reach for the close button. Baekhyun called his nickname suddenly. Chanyeol looked at him, startled when Baekhyun’s body crashed into him. His back hit the wall with Baekhyun’s lips on his. The elevator doors closed with them losing their minds.

The doors opened to the 35th floor. Chanyeol pulled Baekhyun out and pushed him to the wall. Poor backpack, squished to the wall helplessly. Baekhyun’s fingers started undoing Chanyeol’s buttons. Chanyeol looked at the door with his lips still on Baekhyun’s. He managed to push his key in and pushed the door open. Chanyeol grabbed the back of Baekhyun’s thighs and lifted him. Baekhyun gasped and held on to the alpha. Chanyeol’s eyes became blown with lust and admiration.

The maids getting sleepy on the sofa were about to greet Chanyeol when they saw him with a guest. Chanyeol walked to his bedroom and threw Baekhyun in bed. Baekhyun didn’t even get to remove his backpack. Chanyeol closed the door and locked it. “W-Was that...Chanyeolie...is that…?” The elder maid felt her blood pressure rising. Chanyeol just brought home a stranger and took him to bed. The younger maid looked at the open front door and the closed bedroom door. Their master was so unpredictable, she thought.

Baekhyun laid comfortably in bed as Chanyeol licked and nipped his neck. Chanyeol removed Baekhyun’s pants and boxers. He ripped the suit jacket open and tore the belt apart. Baekhyun watched as Chanyeol removed his shirt and undid his pants on top of him. He welcomed him back to his space to kiss some more. Chanyeol felt Baekhyun smile into their kiss. He dragged his lips to Baekhyun’s jaw. “You’re still so beautiful, love. You still taste so sweet.” Chanyeol whispered.

“A-Alpha, touch me.” Baekhyun whimpered. Chanyeol’s fingers were on it. He looked down, amazed Baekhyun was leaking already. This was shocking for the alpha, because during their first time, Baekhyun found it hard to self-lubricate. The omega slept around and played well, he thought. This made the growl in Chanyeol’s chest stronger. He slipped his finger inside easily. “I-Is it too tight?” Baekhyun looked at Chanyeol’s fascination. Chanyeol shook his head. “I p-prepped.”

“You what? For me?” Chanyeol couldn’t contain his smile anymore. “When?”

“B-Before we...we went down, fuck Chanchan move your finger.” Baekhyun reached for Chanyeol’s wrist to move. Chanyeol couldn’t believe Baekhyun was moving his hand on his own. “God, you’re still the best.”

“Who are you comparing me to?” Chanyeol prodded Baekhyun’s hole lazily, wanting some information now. “Baekhyunnie’s been busy, I see.” He kissed Baekhyun’s jaw, curling his finger. Baekhyun arched his back with a gasp. I know you best, B, everything about you. “Did anyone do you better than me?” Chanyeol had a filthy smile on his lips. Baekhyun slapped his face lightly. “I doubt anyone came close.” Chanyeol got between Baekhyun’s legs and withdrew his finger. Baekhyun opened his eyes to see the filthy display of Chanyeol sucking his slick-covered finger. “I made sure to ruin you for everyone. You’re mine, B.” Chanyeol stared the omega down, showing he’s his alpha and no one else.

Baekhyun pulled Chanyeol down by the nape to kiss him stupid. He tugged Chanyeol’s lip between his teeth, making Chanyeol growl. Chanyeol flipped Baekhyun and parted his legs. Baekhyun reached for a pillow to muffle the sounds he made. Chanyeol lapped on his hole greedily. Baekhyun tried closing his legs but Chanyeol held his ankles. He felt something poke his leaking hole. Baekhyun twisted his upper body to look at Chanyeol. He didn’t want it like this.

Chanyeol let him turn over on his own and present himself. Baekhyun still made the alpha’s blood sing after so many years. Chanyeol’s been patient, too patient. Baekhyun was aware it was taking a toll on the alpha. They might not be official, but they have gone past three dates. Having sex was far from okay now. Baekhyun hooked his leg around Chanyeol’s waist, beckoning him to take his offering.

Chanyeol wiped the slick on his lips with his forearm and steadied himself over Baekhyun. He wanted this to last longer. Time, please freeze. Chanyeol leaned down to feel Baekhyun’s breathing on his skin. He didn’t kiss him, nor did he want to be kissed. He just wanted to feel Baekhyun alive with him. Baekhyun closed his eyes and did the same. In the dimness of Chanyeol’s room, they seemed too bright, blinding in fact.

Baekhyun felt the tip of Chanyeol’s nose and breath travelling from his temple, down the side of his face, to his ear then his jaw, and ghosting over his soft lips. He had his hands on the alpha’s shoulders, trusting him completely. If anyone was going to have Baekhyun any day, any time, it was Chanyeol. Only he had the right to, as Baekhyun’s mate. Baekhyun shuddered when he felt Chanyeol’s breath against his pulse point. The thought of the alpha claiming him made him whimper. He flinched when he felt Chanyeol kiss it. Chanyeol wasn’t going to do anything Baekhyun wasn’t ready for, but he really wanted to get this madness over with. A claim mark would solve everything, he believed.

Chanyeol felt Baekhyun was ready. He was squirming too much beneath the alpha. Chanyeol asked him to open his eyes for a moment. He wanted to look at his eyes. Baekhyun showed his beautiful eyes for the alpha slowly, drunk in some margaritas and a lot of lust. Baekhyun gave a nod, his permission. Chanyeol didn’t break their eye contact. He pushed in slowly, holding his breath when he felt Baekhyun ooze around him. It was a sensation more than enough to make him climax instantly.

Baekhyun gasped, looking down quickly. Chanyeol definitely got bigger. He didn’t expect his body to react this way either. His wolf wanted Chanyeol more than he thought. Chanyeol let out a shuddering breath as he forced himself to control. Baekhyun’s nails dug his skin right away. “Relax. I’ll be gentle.” Chanyeol kissed his nose then his lips. The corners of Baekhyun’s eyes were wet with tears. “Safeword?”

“Chanchan,” Baekhyun breathed. Chanyeol looked at the omega like he grew another head. Baekhyun bit his lip and turned his face away. “What?” Baekhyun spoke softly with his pout.

“Your safeword...is...me?” Chanyeol wanted to be sure he wasn’t dreaming. Baekhyun would have sex with strangers and have him in mind. That’s pretty damn special, he thought. Baekhyun said he was changing it to Bibimbap. “Any is fine. I’m not judging. It’s just…” Chanyeol couldn’t help but be smug about it. Baekhyun mewled when he tried to move his hips. He craved friction. “I don’t think you’ll want me to stop.” Baekhyun shuddered at the sound of Chanyeol’s voice against his ear.

If the first time was done out of overwhelming emotions, this second chance was all about love. Baekhyun felt euphoric as Chanyeol continued to rock his body slowly. Their lips barely detached from each other as Chanyeol’s big hands slid up Baekhyun’s sides. It went up the omega’s arms until their hands locked beside the omega’s head. Baekhyun kept going higher and higher as Chanyeol brought him there. Chanyeol watched Baekhyun’s every expression, making sure to give his best to his best.

And they both crashed unexpectedly.

Chanyeol caught his breath as he lifted himself on his elbows. Baekhyun was spent beneath him, feeling tingly all over. Chanyeol dragged his lips from Baekhyun’s neck to his cheek, kissing his eyes then nose. Baekhyun opened his eyes to look at his better half. To Chanyeol’s eyes, Baekhyun was still the most beautiful omega he’s ever seen. Baekhyun brought Chanyeol’s hand to his cheek and kissed his wrist. Through all the ups and downs, Chanyeol was still Baekhyun’s heartbeat.

They managed to open one of the lamps before Baekhyun pleasured Chanyeol. The alpha has his back against the headboard, petting Baekhyun’s head as he blew him. The omega tried to remember how Chanyeol liked it. He still managed to make Chanyeol’s toes curl and bring out the most wonderful sounds from the alpha. But Baekhyun didn’t allow Chanyeol to end there. He straddled his lap and rode him sensually, letting Chanyeol watch him move. Baekhyun felt so powerful and confident under Chanyeol’s gaze. He loved Chanyeol’s hands all over his body. It was all like the first time, but better.

Chanyeol sat straight and looked up to his omega enjoying this with him. Baekhyun held his face and kissed him. Chanyeol guided his hips’ motions, bringing them close to the edge. Baekhyun loved how Chanyeol closed his eyes when his lips parted. He knew his lover was close. “Chanchan,” Baekhyun mumbled softly. Chanyeol opened his eyes, expressing his raw love for the omega. Baekhyun lifted his finger, showing their sign. Number One. He pressed his finger over Chanyeol’s lips as Chanyeol opened his mouth wider to bite Baekhyun’s finger. Baekhyun gave the most dazzling smile he has ever given Chanyeol.

The alpha tensed beneath Baekhyun, arms crushing his waist and hips with the grip as he came with a grunt. Baekhyun peppered kisses on Chanyeol’s face, pushing his sweaty hair back. “You’re really the best of me, Byun Baekhyun.” Chanyeol whispered as he looked up to Baekhyun sleepily. “Even if you don’t want us anymore, I want you to know I’ll never stop loving you.” Chanyeol smiled sullenly as he cupped the omega’s face. Baekhyun wiped the tears flowing down Chanyeol’s cheeks. He was caught off guard by the burst of emotions. Chanyeol lowered his head as a sob escaped his lips with an apology.

“Hey, I thought we were done with this. We have forgiven each other, right?” Baekhyun spoke like Chanyeol was a child. Chanyeol shook his head and controlled his emotions. He looked Baekhyun in the eye. Baekhyun’s heart dropped upon seeing the stars in them disappear. “What is it? You can tell me anything. We’re...we’re friends, right?” Chanyeol closed his eyes and shook his head.

“You’ll hate me, more than you ever did.” Chanyeol whispered, loathing himself already.

“Chanchan, tell me. You’re scaring me.” Baekhyun touched Chanyeol’s chest, feeling his skin cold. The alpha was nervous.

“I’m so sorry, B.” Chanyeol choked slightly but forced himself to smile. He didn’t want to ruin the mood. “Baekhyunnie, please...please still look at me like how you do now when we meet again. Please don’t stop loving me even if we...we aren’t together.” He pressed his forehead on Baekhyun’s. Baekhyun’s hands slowly fell down as the bad feeling in his gut consumed him.

“D-Don’t be like that.” Baekhyun’s voice became tight as he frowned. His bottom lip quivered as his eyes welled with tears. “Chanchan, don’t say that. W-Why do you sound like you’re saying goodbye?” Chanyeol only kissed Baekhyun’s cheek and hugged him. “What’s wrong?” Baekhyun forced Chanyeol to look at him, holding his jaw firmly. Chanyeol sniffed and shook his head again.

“I’m grateful.” Chanyeol whispered as he tried to smile. “I’m so, so, so lucky you’re in my life. I hope you know that. I messed up years ago, and...and I shouldn’t have taken that bet.” A sob escaped his mouth as he closed his eyes. “I’m so stupid. I’m so stupid to ruin everything! I should’ve just ran away with you.”

“Would you stop that? You’re...you’re really worrying me.” Baekhyun started to feel annoyed to mask his sadness. He just wanted to know how he could help.

“You don’t have to worry about me. I told you that.” Chanyeol smiled peacefully after calming slightly, looking at Baekhyun like he’s the most precious thing in the universe. “You just have to know I still love you. I always will.” He kissed the confused Baekhyun, wanting him to remember them, the best parts of them. Baekhyun gave up on thinking and allowed Chanyeol to lay him down and clean him. His heart felt like floating with weights holding it down as he thought of Chanyeol’s words. Tonight was supposed to be happy and sweet, but it felt deeper than a simple show-off. It was like Chanyeol was...he was...did he just scream to the world that he’s dating Baekhyun again? Baekhyun chewed his lip as he thought of the consequences of their actions. What if it happens again? Baekhyun-ah, what are you doing? Chanyeol got back in bed and cuddled the troubled omega.

Baekhyun stayed silent as his mind guessed what Chanyeol meant. Chanyeol couldn’t sleep knowing Baekhyun was trying to figure him out. The alpha pulled Baekhyun closer to him, tucking his face to Baekhyun’s nape to drown in his sweet scent. I’ll look for you, your scent, your touch, everything about you for the rest of my days, B. Baekhyun’s thoughts were cut when he felt Chanyeol curling behind him. He reached back to slip his hand in Chanyeol’s hair and tried to turn his head. The alpha pretended to sleep to avoid talking. Baekhyun placed his hand over Chanyeol’s over his own stomach, letting his finger trace a line over Chanyeol’s ring finger. Okay B, let’s delude ourselves a little more. Maybe spending the rest of my life with Chanyeol wouldn’t be so bad.

Chanyeol knew Baekhyun heard enough at the wedding. When Baekhyun was crowded with apologies, Chanyeol knew it wasn’t because they bullied Baekhyun before. They were sorry because in the end, it still wasn’t him who was going to end up with Chanyeol. Baekhyun heard the little whispers here and there, learning that this specific group of friends, these chaebols, have been mandated by the government to get married and start their own families to encourage the working force to raise the population.

Sehun, Jongin, Yixing, Minseok, and Chanyeol were few of the poster alpha boys asked by the government to lead a new generation of youth for the country. If they refused, their families and businesses would suffer. It was pretty disgusting and degrading, but they couldn’t do anything. They were born into influential families. They had expectations and reputations to uphold. Baekhyun thought it was ridiculous until he saw Minseok’s wedding in the news. He saw Jongin’s too. And then Yixing’s. Sehun’s wedding might air in a few days. All these alpha chaebols were getting married off to whoever they wanted...except Chanyeol. He wanted to be married and start a family on his own terms.

But he’s Park Chanyeol. His family has been under a microscope since his mother became the country’s President several years ago. He was watched throughout his life, a life Baekhyun didn’t seem to fit in. Chanyeol didn’t care. He fell in love with Baekhyun so early in life, he thought it would be easy. There shouldn’t be a problem with time and pacing if it wasn’t for law and politics. Chanyeol knew his mother was all over it. She’d do anything to make Chanyeol snap out of his infatuation for Baekhyun, who was a middle-class orphan. Even if Chanyeol already told his family for the nth time that Baekhyun was his mate, she still pushed for what she wanted for her only son.

That’s why Chanyeol was mad when Baekhyun told him about the money. That’s why Chanyeol always went out of his way to see Baekhyun for years and kept trying to get his attention again. He knew his time would come. He knew he was never going to have Baekhyun again. That’s why he didn’t force himself on Baekhyun as more than a friend. Chanyeol knew he had to make the most of the time he had left before he sold himself to a stranger for marriage.

Chanyeol didn’t stop getting intimate with Baekhyun because he wanted this. He wanted to remember Baekhyun like this, for Baekhyun to remember him as his no matter what happened in the future. He said everything he wanted to tell Baekhyun. He gave himself to Baekhyun all over again. Chanyeol wanted Baekhyun to live his life knowing Chanyeol would always be there for him, regardless of whether they get married or not. Their bond didn’t have to be romantic. Chanyeol proved it in the most painful way he could give; by showing Baekhyun he loved him unconditionally and will continue to do so...from afar.

Baekhyun turned in Chanyeol’s hold, clinging on to him like he was going to vanish. He was aware. He pieced everything together in exchange for a few minutes of sleep. Chanyeol tucked his face to the omega’s neck. He still hasn’t changed, Chanyeol still craved love and affection. Maybe that’s why he loved being with Baekhyun when they were younger. Baekhyun always hugged him, petted his hair, kissed him, and held his hand at random moments. He found the love he looked for from his busy family in an orphaned omega who wanted the same too. Baekhyun kissed Chanyeol’s head, comforting him through his slumber. He still wanted to be there for Chanyeol and he knew Chanyeol was right. They could still love each other out of marriage, subtly, quietly, distantly, and painfully. Even though his heart was breaking again, he wanted Chanyeol to feel that he’s forever loved.

Sleep didn’t feel good anymore. Chanyeol woke up suddenly, feeling like he just came from a nightmare. Sleep has been like that for him lately. It wasn’t a slow wake but a slap in the face for him to open his eyes. He stirred and saw Baekhyun was still awake, looking at the alpha with a soft smile on his lips. “Your hair’s getting long.” Baekhyun mumbled as his fingers tangled in them. “Don’t cut it yet, hmm?” Chanyeol nodded, adjusting his position comfortably.

In the silence of their post-sex, post-breakdown state, Chanyeol let Baekhyun stay between his legs. Baekhyun kissed Chanyeol’s tattooed arm, biting it occasionally to make the alpha lighten up a little. Chanyeol lifting the corners of his lips required so much effort. Baekhyun didn’t like him dampening the mood, but he needed answers to his guesses.

Chanyeol wanted to come clean too. He was next. Baekhyun already had some time to believe this was the case while Chanyeol was asleep. He listened to Chanyeol this time, explaining that the new clause in this business-government relationship was to have them all married off to influence the citizens that having a family and working at the same time was manageable. If the busiest youth could do it, anyone could. If any of the conglomerates refused, the government was going to reject their permits, requests, and whatnot. It made Baekhyun chuckle at the ridiculousness of things.

“Before, we were just up against high schoolers and your family. Now the government wants to intervene. Mr Park, you are one sheltered alpha.” Baekhyun teased as Chanyeol rolled his eyes. He hated being babied. Baekhyun pinched his cheek, mocking him this time. “It sucks to be you.” He sighed.

“I tried to change my name to Dongwook to run away. I’m getting desperate to stop being Park Chanyeol.” The alpha still had some sense of humor despite being upset.

“You still have to be Park Chanyeol. I can’t lose my alpha.” Baekhyun pouted, hitting Chanyeol’s chest with his fist lightly.

“You’re never losing me, B.” Chanyeol squeezed Baekhyun. “I’ll make you get sick of me.”

“I already am.” Baekhyun groaned. “This is the longest time we’ve been together. Ever.” They passed the horrible first month and half, which was the duration of their relationship back in high school. It’s almost a year since they made up and became friends. “Have you met...her...or him?” Baekhyun tried to make small talk. Chanyeol shook his head. “Not even a name? We can stalk them.”

“I don’t want to know.” Chanyeol closed his eyes, pretending to sleep. “I will never want to know, hear, or say their name.”

“Don’t be like that. You have to be nice to your spouse. You have to take care of whoever they are.” Baekhyun scolded him lightly.

“I’ll only take care of you.” Chanyeol kissed his lips.

“So what, I’ll be your lover living in a different place that you visit at dawn?” Baekhyun arched his brow. Chanyeol didn’t like that. “I won’t mind. Being friends with benefits seems...thrilling.”

“Are you seriously considering being second to whoever I’ll be married to? When you’re Number One?” Chanyeol was appalled. “You don’t deserve that. You deserve someone who will treat you well.”

“Well, you do that.” Baekhyun shrugged. His shame and self-respect just jumped out the window. Chanyeol was so confused.

“I thought you don’t want us to happen again.” Chanyeol whispered.

“You said you were going to wait no matter how long. Suddenly you’re getting married to a stranger? Mr Park, do you want to fight?” Baekhyun taunted. Chanyeol knew he couldn’t win as he sat back, defeated. “Can you blame me for wanting more after this?” Baekhyun gestured at their naked bodies covered with a sheet. “I was hopeful at some point.”

“Sorry.” Chanyeol knew he went overboard with his flirting.

“I’m not.” Baekhyun smiled slightly as flashes of their memories came to mind. He sat on Chanyeol’s lap and held his face to look at his eyes. “As stupid and sadistic as it sounds, I wanted all this too. So we slept together when you’re technically engaged. No one has to know.” Suddenly, Baekhyun’s craving for Chanyeol? The alpha worried about the desperation in Baekhyun’s eyes. Did he just make a mistake with me?

“Baekhyun-ah, don’t sell yourself short. You have nothing to gain from me anymore.” Chanyeol was so tired.

“I do.” Baekhyun whispered. Chanyeol wondered what he’s up to now. “Do you want to run away then?” Chanyeol narrowed his eyes at him.

“Why? Do you still love me?” The alpha challenged. Baekhyun refused to answer. “Exactly my point.” If Baekhyun couldn’t bring himself to admit it, Chanyeol lacked proof to fight for them. He has thought about this more than he should. He has been fighting for Baekhyun more than the omega would ever know, but Baekhyun still kept him on edge. Chanyeol wanted to be assured also but Baekhyun still couldn’t make a decision and time was running out.

“So what happens to us now? Do we forget this happened? Am I invited to your wedding?” Baekhyun still tried to make jokes. Chanyeol couldn't understand how Baekhyun came to terms with this already. He has known for a few months and he still hasn’t accepted this. Then again, Baekhyun masked his emotions by being a rascal. Chanyeol was aware that pulling his emotions out would lead to a fight. He didn’t want that.

“I can’t invite you. I’ll run away with you if I see you.” Chanyeol pouted. “It’s still your call, B. I’m still at your mercy. When you’ve decided, let me know. Just don’t take too long.” He ran his fingers in the omega’s hair, staying calm. Baekhyun leaned on Chanyeol, thinking about this until he fell asleep on him. Chanyeol kissed Baekhyun’s head until he fell asleep. He wasn’t married yet, wasn’t even properly engaged, so he was going to be with Baekhyun until then. No one could stop him until things were decided.

The morning was bombarded by a loud female voice. Chanyeol groaned when he stirred awake. Baekhyun was still in his bed. Chanyeol kissed his head and tried to wake himself. He was going to scold the maids for being too loud. Chanyeol opened the door, seeing the elder maid terrified. “Chanyeol, your sister,”

“Chanyeol-ah!” Her voice was like pans hitting each other. Chanyeol hushed the elder maid, saying he would handle this. She followed the owner of the apartment to meet Yoora in the living room. “There you are, did you get home drunk again?” She looked at his brother from head to toe. “Wear a shirt, god. There’s women here.”

“They’re used to it.” Chanyeol kissed her cheek and sat down on the couch. “What do you want? It’s so early.” The women looked at the big clock on the wall. It was close to lunch time.

“Mom wants to go on a date with us. Get dressed.” Yoora pulled him to stand.

“You go. I don’t want to see her.” Chanyeol rubbed his eyes as he yawned.

“Whoa, is something wrong?” Yoora found this odd. Chanyeol was always game to see their mother.

“While you’re at it, tell her I hate her.” Chanyeol gave a sarcastic smile.

“Whoa, Chanyeol, what happened? Did you two fight?” She worried about him. His eyes seemed swollen. Chanyeol removed his sister’s hands on his face gently, groaning he was fine. He told her to see herself out as he dragged himself back to his room. Yoora followed him, only to gasp. Chanyeol looked ahead and sighed. He turned around, making little to no effort to hide what he was hiding. Baekhyun lowered his head in shame. Good thing he dressed in his pants and the suit jacket. He didn’t know Chanyeol had company. “Baekhyunnie?!”

“G-Good morning, noona.” Baekhyun bowed deeply to avoid her eyes. This was going terribly wrong already. There’s no hiding what he was doing at Chanyeol’s place with his hair sticking out everywhere and his skin peppered in love bites. Chanyeol ran his hands over his face, lazily asking his sister to keep this from their parents.

Yoora walked past Chanyeol and hugged the omega. “Oh my god, you look stunning, baby! Your braces are gone.” She kissed his cheeks like he was still family. As if Chanyeol’s family ever treated Baekhyun like one. Well, Yoora was nice to him at least. Yoora looked at Chanyeol and Baekhyun, then back to her brother then the omega. “Oh my god. Oh my god! Are you two seeing each other again?” She shrieked. Chanyeol threw his head back and closed his eyes. Of all people that had to barge in, it had to be his intuitive sister. At least it wasn’t his mother. Baekhyun denied it openly. “Then what is this?” She gestured between them and Baekhyun’s neck. “Fuck buddies? Oh baby, you can do better than my brother. I can set you up.” She winked. Chanyeol rolled his eyes and told his sister to leave. “Not yet. You. Let’s talk.” She pointed to Chanyeol’s study.

“Whatever you have to say, you can say it in front of Baekhyun. He’s still my mate.” Chanyeol announced. The maids in the kitchen screamed in shock. Baekhyun was about to deny it but Chanyeol gave him a tired look. There’s no point in hiding it. “She knows, B. He knows I’m getting married, noona.” Yoora looked at Baekhyun, dumbfounded.

“Y-You have nothing to worry about, noona. We’re not...I’m not...he can get married today for all I care.” Baekhyun chuckled bitterly. “I’m not...we’re not stopping it.”

Yoora looked at Chanyeol and Baekhyun, trying to figure out what’s going on. Chanyeol lowered his head, frustrated about the look in Baekhyun’s broken eyes. Yoora got her phone and called someone in the midst of the silence. Baekhyun neared Chanyeol, holding his waist and begging the alpha to calm down. Yoora didn’t mean any harm by coming there uninvited. She was just wondering why Chanyeol didn’t pick up her calls, worrying her tremendously. Chanyeol was angry whispering about his sister’s intrusion while Baekhyun calmed him expertly. Everyone, even the maids, were aware Chanyeol hated his privacy being breached. He moved to this place for that reason: privacy.

“Mom,” one word made both men stop breathing. Chanyeol was about to snatch her phone, but Baekhyun blocked his path and pushed him back from hurting his sister. “We can’t make it today.” She looked at her little brother, absolutely sorry for not realizing his heavy heart sooner. “We’re...busy.” Her voice faded towards the end as guilt consumed her body. Chanyeol’s eyes welled with tears as Yoora hung up then kept her phone in her purse. She lowered her head to compose herself for a moment. “I won’t tell Mom and Dad.” Her eyes met Chanyeol’s, showing him that she could be trusted. This was between them after all.

“Good.” Chanyeol still sounded angry.

“But you have to tell me what’s going on with you. You’re not picking up my calls or answering my messages. Dad only sees you at work, and you avoid him too. Mom hasn’t heard from you for a while. Then I just hear from others that you have a drinking problem. Chanyeol-ah, what...how can I help you?” Yoora voiced her reason for coming. She wanted to talk to Chanyeol, to check on him.

“You can help me by leaving us alone.” Chanyeol pointed to the door.

“Chanyeol-ah, look at me.” Baekhyun forced him to look at him. He looked at Yoora briefly then focused on Chanyeol. “Hey, look at me.” Chanyeol listened, but he was still beyond pissed. “Don’t push her away. Isn’t this what you wanted? You wanted your family to care about you, remember?” Baekhyun brought out Chanyeol’s vulnerabilities as a teenager.

“It had to take several years, a rebellion, and a drinking problem to get here.” Chanyeol scoffed.

“At least it’s here, right?” Baekhyun shrugged. Chanyeol seemed to have awakened. The things they wanted always came, but always came late. Baekhyun’s forgiveness, their second chance, even this moment for Yoora to listen to Chanyeol; they were all late but their time came. “Talk to Yoora noona, please. She’s here for you. Tell her everything you told me now. Everything.”

“You confide in Baekhyun, but not me?” Yoora sounded so hurt. “Yeollie, I’m not your enemy. I’m not Mom.” Her voice wavered.

“You two need to talk, Chanchan. Please. At least, do it for me?” Baekhyun hoped Chanyeol would listen. Chanyeol sighed and nodded, weak for Baekhyun’s wishes. “I-I’ll get going then, hmm?”

“No, you stay here. We’re not yet done.” Chanyeol panicked. Yoora looked away, gutted for them. “Baekhyun, don’t go yet.” The alpha was aware that once Baekhyun walked out the door, things were changing again. Baekhyun was saying goodbye again. The omega hushed him, saying he’ll just go home and wash up. If he was done talking to Yoora, he could visit him. They could have snacks or dinner together because he wasn’t going to work anyway. “Just stay here. We won’t be long.” Chanyeol didn’t trust his word for it since Baekhyun was so good at running away.

Baekhyun shook his head. “Chanchan, I’ll always...always be here for you.” What a loaded final word. Chanyeol knew this was it, Baekhyun was walking out of his life again. He couldn’t move or think straight. He felt like Baekhyun just punched him. The omega excused himself to get his things in Chanyeol’s room like the place was on fire. Maybe Baekhyun was on fire deep inside. He bowed to Yoora and the maids as he rushed to get his things.

“Hyunnie, wait.” Chanyeol took a step, but he felt so nauseous. This was not happening again, he thought. Baekhyun did stop with a flinch as he covered his mouth to silence himself. This was what I was waiting for...for you to hurt me again. Baekhyun opened the door and wiped his face roughly with his hand. “Hyun-ah!” Chanyeol yelled, begging with a pained voice. Everyone in the room flinched. Baekhyun went out and slammed the door, looking back when he heard a loud crash in the room.

Baekhyun took the emergency stairs to get away faster. He got in his apartment and locked the door. He couldn’t breathe, legs giving out as he looked around his place. It felt so foreign. Baekhyun removed his backpack and threw it far, knocking the console table and sending a vase to the floor in pieces. The omega couldn’t hold it in anymore. He hugged his shins and sobbed to his knees. It was so hard to keep it inside. He cried nonstop, letting his pain echo.

Chanyeol was getting married. If the first time was painful, this was excruciating. Baekhyun screamed as he gripped his hair. He started kicking nothing as he clawed his chest. He wanted to rip his heart out. He didn’t want to feel it anymore. Baekhyun’s phone lit up near him. Minseok’s photo was on the screen. He picked up with shaky hands, covering his lips with his forearm. Minseok sounded so happy. It was so unfair, he thought.

“Hello? Are you there? Baek, hello? Can you hear me? I asked if you wanted to come with us. Jongdae wanted to pick baby clothes. You’d be better at this than me.” Minseok chuckled. The happiness slowly faded as he heard a sob from the line. Jongdae smiled at Minseok, waiting for Baekhyun’s answer. “D-Dae, can you...can you turn the car around?” Minseok felt his heart tug. Baekhyun didn’t need to say anything. That one sob was enough to let Minseok know.

“Why? Is...did you forget anything?” Jongdae worried.

“It’s going to be okay, B. We’re...we’re coming.” Minseok couldn’t breathe all of a sudden. Jongdae didn’t ask anymore. He hurriedly went the other way. The day they feared has come.

Yoora couldn’t move. She was so scared to be near her brother. The maids huddled in the corner as Chanyeol started breaking things around them. Chanyeol screamed and screamed as he broke down. It got terrifying when Chanyeol punched the glass window, shattering the whole panel. Yoora motioned for the maids to leave and call the building administrator.

The cool air from the outside seemed to calm Chanyeol. He was on his knees, crying on his own. Not again, he thought. He couldn’t believe Baekhyun just left him again. Yoora wiped her cheeks and neared Chanyeol slowly. Her heels cracked more broken glass, making her careful. She wrapped her arms around her brother, kissing his hair in silent apology. Chanyeol leaned on her and held her arms. Yoora used all her strength to drag Chanyeol back from the window. She cradled him like he was still little, letting him feel what he had to.

A few floors down, another heart broke. Minseok and Jongdae got to Baekhyun, hugging him tightly. Minseok hushed Baekhyun, wiping his cheeks with his hands. Jongdae got water for him, feeling sorry. “I messed up again, hyung.” Baekhyun hiccuped. Minseok said he didn’t. “I did. I-I-I,” Baekhyun couldn’t speak. Minseok rubbed his back, trying to keep his own tears at bay. “I still love him, hyung. What should I do? What do I do now, hyung?” Jongdae couldn’t look at Baekhyun.

“We know. We know you do.” Minseok let him cry in his arms.

They all knew. But never did anything to help Chanyeol and Baekhyun like the two helped all of them.

Notes:

Please just let them be happy @ self TT this is getting sadder and sadder huh? Should this continue? I promise there's a happy ending!
