    Rachel Dawes sits comfortably behind Jim Gordon’s desk, legs crossed, one foot dangling up and down as she waits patiently for her friend. It’s a pleasant, peaceful environment — a far cry from the chaotic mess it was when he’d first moved in. She surveys the space around her with an approving expression. The goldfish look content in their little habitat and the plant on the window sill practically preens itself on the sunlight it’s receiving.

    As entertaining as it is to tease him, she’s happy for him. He’s finally figured it all out — and that makes her proud.
