Work Text:

Crowley slunk around the edge of the building. He didn't usually slink. Usually he swaggered, but this was a special occasion. The quarter moon would have rendered the alley pitch black to most humans, but Crowley wasn't human, and neither were his eyes. Even the dark glasses he wore to hide them were insufficient to impede his vision.

The cobblestones were cold beneath his snake-clad feet, not to mention still damp from the afternoon's drizzle, as Crowley inched towards the lit window that betrayed his target. His back slid along the wall as he got closer, and then finally he stopped and turned his head to spy into the room.

A dying fire lit a man's back, and two candles on the desk he sat at dimly lit his face. He frowned as he mouthed at the feathers of a quill, seemingly lost in thought.

Crowley was careful not to lean in far enough to be seen. He could have miracled himself unnoticeable, of course, but where was the fun in that? Slowly, he raised his hand, and snapped. The man at the desk perked up as if struck by a sudden thought, then grinned evilly as he began to scribble furiously.

Outside the building a demon smirked at a job well done as he slunk off into the night.

***

In the 21st century an angel hums happily along to the Scherzo from Beethoven's Sonata in A Major Op. 2 No. 2; and simultaneously in another building a piano student screams in frustration at the score in front of them.

Thank you for reading!

This idea has been sitting around in my head for two years now and today I ended up writing it in about an hour. Brains are strange.
