Work Text:
The moment you crossed the threshold of your and Hoseok’s apartment, you felt the tears you had been holding in all night begin to spill over. You dropped your things to the floor and fumbled in kicking your shoes off, too upset to care about lining them neatly. Remembering that Hoseok could be asleep, or just trying to relax this quiet evening, you took a deep breath and carefully walked into the apartment. You couldn’t find any sign of him in the living room or kitchen, so you decided to curl up on the sofa until you calmed down.
Visiting your parents was never a fun ordeal, but going without your boyfriend made things even worse. Normally Hobi managed to carve out the time to accompany you, but he was just too busy with filming to go to dinner. He had hated not being to go, knowing how horrible your relatives could behave towards you. At least when he was there it seemed better, even if it was just a little. Plus, having him at your side never failed in making you feel better; like you could take on the world.
You had hoped things wouldn’t get bad tonight, but your wishful thinking had been shut down rather quickly, not long after sitting down for dinner things started to go downhill. Your parents were there to tear you down as always. First, it had been your work and how little they thought you had helped tonight, then it turned to Hoseok and how they didn’t like him or you dating an idol- more so how you didn’t deserve Hoseok. By the end of the night, their belittling had left you slumped in your seat, focused on trying to hold your tears in rather than eating.
Your whole body felt hot as you buried your face into your arms, trying to quiet down the shard inhales of breath and sobs starting to steadily roll out of you. You didn’t want to bother Hobi, he was likely tired or even still working. The seeds of doubt towards your relationship with him had already been plated and you didn’t want to risk making it worse.
But, of course, your cries didn’t go unheard. Hoseok, who had been lying down in bed watching a movie, thought he had been hearing things when he noticed the crying. He hadn’t heard you come in and it definitely wasn’t from the movie. So, he picked himself up and wandered out of the bedroom, looking around before he spotted you lying on the sofa, shoulders shaking as you cried into your arms. “Y/n?” He frowned, worry setting in as he hurried to join you on the sofa. “Baby, what’s wrong?” He asked, resting a hand on your back as you picked your head up and looked over to him. You opened your mouth to speak, but was cut off with a small, choked sob instead. Hoseok cooed, grabbing your arm and helping you sit up, pulling you into his chest as soon as he could. “Was it your parents?” He asked, not needing an answer.
“It was the same as always” you choked out, “I just wish they would- would be nicer.”
“I’m sorry” he sighed, arms tight around you as he rocked you back and forth a bit. “I’m sorry I could be there with you” he frowned, resting his chin on top of your head. You wanted to tell him it was okay, but you couldn’t seem to get any more words out. “It’s okay” he murmured, “just let it all out, okay?” You nodded the little hiccups and endless flow of tears still going as you relaxed in his hold. “It’s okay” he kept soothing you, rubbing your back and leaving small kisses on your head. And when you finally cried yourself out he rubbed the tears from your face and pushed the mess your hair had become out of your way. He got you some water, coaxing you to drink as much of it as you could before going to the bedroom. He left the movie long forgotten, letting you change into something comfortable before tucking you under the covers and joining you just a little after. His arms wrapped around you immediately, pulling you closer and letting you enjoy the calm silence in the room.
Sometimes, when stray tears began to fall again he would brush them away and squeeze you tighter. He didn’t think about going to sleep until he knew you had drifted off, to which he pressed a loving kiss to your cheek before nuzzling into you for the night.
