Work Text:
Gray was awoken to the smell of pancakes and the bed dipping and springing up again as his toddler jumped on the bed.
“Daddy! Daddy! Time to wake up!” Sydney stopped jumping on the bed, falling to her knees beside Gray’s face. His 4 year-old was missing one of her front teeth, Gray noticed, as she smiled widely at him.
“Where’d your tooth go, monkey?’ He grabbed Sydney and pulled her to sit on his bare chest.
“I lost it this morning! Mommy gave me an apple and I lost it when I bited it!” Gray smiled at her, her toddler vocabulary coming into view with her use of ‘bited’ instead of bit.
“Speaking of, where is your mommy?” He asked, now noticing the empty spot on the bed where Carmen usually laid.
“She's in the kitchen.” His daughter stated, jumping off his chest. “Come on!” She pulled on his hand, effectively making him get out of bed.
Gray laughed heartily at his daughter's antics, standing up and pulling on a shirt. He picked Sydney up and opened the door to his and Carmen’s room, and walked down the hall with her.
He looked at the string of pictures along the wall, One of him and Carmen at their wedding, another of her and Suhara dancing at their wedding (He was the one to ‘give her away’), Or as Gray liked to call him, Dadosan, Another few of him and Carmen with their little monkey, And the last in the row of pictures was of Carlotta and Carmen both staring at Sydney.
He smiled, the feeling of love coursing through his body as he walked into the kitchen to see Carmen dancing along to a song playing in the kitchen as she flipped some pancakes. He put Sydney down, and she immediately ran to her little playroom full of her toys.
He watched Carmen for a while as she shook her hips to the beat of the song, and quietly hummed along. He loved it, loved the domestic life they held.
He came up behind her and pressed his hips into her backside and his chest against her back, his arms wrapping around her waist and his chin coming to rest on her shoulder.
She smiled at him, turning from the pancakes to face him.
“Morning, handsome,” She whispered to him, kissing him quickly as her hands slid up and down his arms.
“Morning,” He replied quietly, looking into her eyes.
“Sleep well?” She asked, pushing him away from her with a smirk.
“Very. Was woken by a monkey jumping on the bed though,” He looked back towards Sydney's playroom before he pulled her close and kissed her hard and passionately, his hands resting on her hips. Carmen kissed him back with the same passion as he had initiated the kiss with, but instead this time, he was the one to pull away.
“Later,” He winked at her.
“Mean.”
“You love it,”
“You’re lucky I do,”
“Damn right I am.”
He smiled at her as she grinned at him, flipping another pancake over before loading it onto the plate that had sat beside her. She turned the stove off, grabbing the plate of pancakes and his hand before leading him over to the table and setting the pancakes down onto the full table.
“Sydney!” She called, their monkey’s head peeking out of her playroom. “Time for breakfast, monkey.” Sydney’s head ducked back into her room, before she came running out with her hands behind her back.
“Whatcha got there, monkey?” Gray asked, looking into his daughter's grey-blue eyes. Her hands whipped out from behind her back, holding up a picture she frew. It was a picture of three stick figures, one with red, long hair, another with brown hair, and a shorter one with brown hair standing in front of a park.
“I drew it for you, Daddy!” Gray crouched down, and plucked the picture from her hands. He looked back up at Sydney’s smiling face.
“Thank you, Sydney.” He wrapped his arms around his small daughter, squeezing her tightly.
“Daddy!” She laughed in his arms, “You’re squeezing me too tight!” Gray let his daughter go, ruffling her little pigtails with a smile before standing up and looking at his wife, who was walking towards him with a card.
“A card? Carmen, really, this is too much,” He teased her, grinning at her.
“Shut up and read it, dork.” He laughed before opening the card, smiling at the little song it played before looking over at the page with her writing on it. His heart dropped as he looked at the two words laid out on the page, along with the small picture.
The card said ‘Congratulations, Daddy.’, with a small sonogram picture hanging by a paperclip. His jaw dropped open as his head whipped over to Carmen who now held Sydney in her arms, both of them smiling at him.
“Are- are you,” He stuttered, at a loss for words. He looked back at the picture before wiping a tear that had trailed down his cheek, smiling brightly at it. He turned towards Carmen and Sydney, dropping the card on the table.
“Happy Father’s Day, Gray.” Carmen whispered, tears wetting her own eyes as she let Sydney down from her arms.
He practically ran over to her, wrapping his arms around her waist and lifting her up into the air, spinning a few times before setting her back down. She was laughing happily, and cupped his face and pulled him in for a kiss.
Gray kissed her hard and lovingly, before pulling back to lay his forehead against hers.
“You’re really pregnant?” He asked quietly. Carmen nodded, wiping his tears away with her thumb.
Gray pulled away from Carmen, kissing her quickly before turning to Sydney who was standing on the floor beside them. He picked her up, inviting her between the two parents before laughing happily as she said “I'm gonna be the best big sister eva!”.
This was quite possibly the best present he could have ever gotten for fathers day. He loved his family so much, especially the new addition even though they weren’t here yet.
He was happy.
