Chapter 1: Thoughts

Chapter Text

Oliver was lost in thought as he stood looking over the city, feeling the chilly breeze of an autumn night. His mother and sister weren't home neither was his step-father, Walter.

Five years passed since the last time he stood here and it felt the same. The breeze coming from his right, the moon directly above him, as if pointing toward him, telling everyone where he stood.

His mother hated when he stood out here, always afraid he'll fall or do something stupid but now, now she's  afraid he'll jump. After what the doctor told her, could you blame her?

He knew he couldn't.

His sister was yet to know about his damaged body, something he intended to keep the same but due to her consistent snooping he knew it'd be hard to shield her from his horrors.

He breathes, in from the nose, out through the mouth. It always calmed him, kept him sedated. But most of all it made him remember that he's still alive.

"Breathe everything breathe" the amount of times he told himself this, Oliver couldn't count, at this point it was etched into his brain.

Living here again, in Starling made Oliver realise the  little differences, so minute that it didn't change things for most people but Oliver has never been most people, he's always been knowledgeable of his surroundings (that's if you minis the people living in it) and the slightest change, no matter how minute it was always annoyed him.

Returning home though, that wasn't annoying but more bitter sweet. The joy of being able to see and hold his family overshadowed by the lies, the manipulation and most of all the disappointed looks he got every time he forgot to do something because he was 'out'.

But his family couldn't know who he was, to protect them of course. Well that's what he told himself but deep down he knew the truth. It was to protect himself.

He always imagined telling them what he does but the outcome was what he was afraid of. In his head it was always negative, they would go to the police, they'd take him into mental hospitals but worst of all he'd see them killing him, to get rid of a monster, to kill the hood. To kill a murderer.

"Oliver, could you please come down I need some help here." His mother called.

He walked down the stairs ridding the negative thoughts from his mind. His mother needed help and that's more important, until he put on that hood then it wasn't, then his obligation would be to the list not himself, not his mother and not his sister.

"Ah... There you are. Please take this to my room, I had too much to drink and Thea passed out in the car so I need to go wake her up." She says handing Oliver a bag.

"Okay but I can't do anything else, I'm going to head out." He's says whilst turning around to go back up the stairs.

"Oliver." She said softly. "Please take Mr.Diggle with you. I just have this overwhelming feeling that something bad will happen tonight."

"I promise mom, I will."

Smiling softly he headed back upstairs this time with no negative thoughts.
