“I—I’m going to need some time,” Kaoru had said, and for a moment Kojiro panicked, his chest tightening and his stomach flipping over and over until not throwing up was the only thing he could focus on, and Kaoru must have seen it on his face because only a second later he was reaching out and grabbing Kojiro’s hands, squeezing them tight. “Nonono, Kojiro—I want to be with you, I do. It’s just, you’ve known about your feelings for me for a lot longer than I’ve known about my feelings for you. I’m just saying, would it be okay, if we took things slow.”
Kojiro had exhaled, his breath taking some of the tension with it as it left his body. Slow. He could do slow—he’d already been doing it for years. He could wait a little longer. If that’s what it was going to take to win Kaoru’s heart, it would be worth it.
