Chapter Text
It was a typical summer's day and the heat leeched energy from the air. Sapnap and Quackity sat a decent distance away from one another on the couch, not wanting the other’s body heat to worsen the burn of the afternoon Sun.
Sapnap had an arm draped over his eyes as he slid down the couch, legs spread and sweat dripping from his skin. A soft groan slipped past his lips,
“Fuck man, its hot.”
He may have originated from the nether, but there were days when the heat got too much, even for him. Today just so happened to be one of those days.
Quackity sat in a similar but reversed position, legs splayed across the back of the couch and head hung above the floor. He glanced over and nodded, a light blush creeping above his collar where he grew too hot to bear. He used his shirt to wipe away some of the sweat coating his forehead before letting the shirt fall back over his chest.
“Too hot to do jack shit, but I’m fucking bored”
Quackity huffed, swinging his legs from over the back of the couch and curling into the armrest . One hand lifted his beanie a bit, while the other pushed some hair away from where it clung to his forehead. Realistically he should have removed it by now, Sapnap being the only one of the two built for hot weather, but he kept it on anyway.
The two sat in silence, the TV buzzing a low static in the background, both contemplating what to do. They could go swimming in the ocean near their home, stay inside, or maybe find somewhere shady outside to relax.
All of the sudden, Quackity broke the silence. A look crossed his face, something that blurred the line between excitement and scheming, before he asked,
“Wanna... sit under one of the oak trees and get high?”
There was a pretty big patch of oak and birch trees in the area they chose to build at, close to the sea and sufficiently far away for them to be completely unbothered. After everything that had happened, the two of them had wanted somewhere tranquil to live, and they found just that type of peaceful freedom. They were in the middle of trying to fix what had broken between them, the betrayal Quackity had felt because of Kinoko, and Sapnap’s pain at learning about Dream’s torture at Pandora’s Vault. Of course, they had both been in the wrong: Sapnap in assuming that Karl had told Quackity about their new nation and ignoring the messages sent from their fiancé, and Quackity for completely throwing himself into Las Nevadas and taking out his anger on Dream. So far, they were making progress. They stopped tearing at each other’s throats, arguing so often, and they were starting to become more comfortable with the small touches they had grown so used to before.
They had yet to fall over the edge. One little push and they would come running back to their old ways, both of them craved intimacy but respected each other too much to drag the other down.
Would this moment be that push?
Sapnap thought about it for a moment, fingers tapping an absentminded beat on his thigh.
“Mmm, fuck it, lets go.”
Quackity let out a little cheer, wings fluttering in excitement now that they had been freed from being pressed into the cushions. He stood up, grabbing Sapnap’s larger hand, lacing their fingers together as he pulled him up off the couch. A grin split across his features, which was mirrored by the other. Sapnap squeezed Quackity’s hand for a moment, before he let go.
“I’ll get a blanket, you grab the pot and stuff?”
Quackity nodded, letting his hand drop to his side before he moved to the room where he kept the potions and other items that aided in getting that high they seeked. While the avian did that, the blaze born peered into a hallway closet where they kept extras of comfort items such as blankets, cloths, ect. He pulled out one of the thinner ones, if only to make sure they didn't dirty their clothing and to even out the ground.
It wasn't long before the two were in the same room once again, the folded blanket in Sapnap’s grasp and a bag filled with the items he’d gathered in Quackity’s hands. The pots in the bag clinked together occasionally as he lifted it to show off, but he remained careful.
“Ready?”
Sapnap nodded and reached to open the door for the other. Quackity took his leave, and Sapnap followed, locking the door behind them. Not that it was necessary, but the idea of their home being secured, even when it was just them and the mobs, was something that made both of them rest easier.
If the heat was bad inside, it grew ten times worse when they left their home. Regardless, they pushed through the walk. Stray leaves crunched under their boots, but the otherwise silent atmosphere that collected around them as they walked was comfortable. Thanks to how close they were to the ocean, a gentle breeze drifted through their path and rustled their hair, cooling them down in the process.
After a few minutes of silent walking, the two came upon a tree, nestled in such a way that the blazing sun wouldn’t be able to reach its roots any time soon. With a flick of Sapnap’s wrists, the blanket unfurled across the ground. It was navy blue, outlined in small, embroidered flames, and he kneeled down to place a few stones on its corners. Once satisfied, he reached out his hand to the avian, who took it with a smile and let himself be pulled down.
As they fell onto soft fleece and warm earth,, Quackity landed squarely in Sapnap’s lap.. To which Quackity quickly made himself comfortable, if only for this fleeting moment in time (extra body heat be damned!). He set the bag down beside them, shifting slightly so he was able to slip off Sapnap’s lap, remaining close enough for comfort but not enough to push his luck. Although, Quackity realizes it would have been the perfect moment to plant a gentle kiss to his lover’s chapped lips. He lets the moment pass regardless, and instead focuses on preparing the potions and, subconsciously, moving ever-so-slightly closer..
The comfortable silence found the pair once more, save for the clink of bottles here and there as Quackity worked. The wind blowing in from the sea gently stirred locks of their hair every now and then. A few bees flitted over to them, buzzing around the sweet smelling potions. to which Sapnap reached over and gently waved his hands to herd them away. One landed on his hand, a small, black and yellow ball of fuzz that tickled his fingers as it crawled. Sapnap drew it to his face and whispered,
“Hi there, little guy,”
Quackity glanced over at him, face stretched in a quiet smile and eyes cheeks rosy. The sight brought butterflies to Quackity’s stomach, and if he wasn’t busy setting up the potions, his hands might have found their way to Sapnap’s cheek. For a lack of better words, seeing Sapnap so gentle, so loving, reminded Quackity of their past, be it laying in bed cuddled up or consoling one another after nightmares and bad dreams.
He looked back to the potions as the bee flew away, and with steady fingers, he gently set up what was effectively a bong before he proudly held it up to show Sapnap.
“All ready!”
Sapnap grinned, reaching for it and admiring it for a moment.
“This is perfect, duckling.”
He said it with such fondness that Quackity’s wings ruffled with equal parts pride and half-hearted embarrassment.
“Thanks, mi vida~ You taking the first hit?”
Sapnap nodded. Just as he went to wrap his lips around the lip of the bong, he glanced at Quackity watching him, and an idea popped into his head. From his pointer finger, he produced a small flame and lit the bong. His lips wrapped around the opening, setting the hand he had just used to light the glass with falling into his lap.
He inhaled the vapor created by the ignition, holding it for a moment before he reached out to pull Quackity closer by his shirt. Just close enough to hopefully get his point across, but offer Quackity an out.
Quackity put up little to no fight, confusion clear in his gaze. To which Sapnap met his gaze, the two shared a silent conversation before a small nod of consent was given. The space between them closed as their lips brushed against one another; Quackity inhaling as Sapnap exhaled, shotgunning the smoke. What wasn't inhaled by the avian came out in airy tindrels escaping them both and flowing into the breeze. The two didn’t part as the action ended, Quackity’s eyes fluttering closed as he took in the moment, turning his head a little to let out a breath. Golden eyes met Ruby ones, the two drinking one another in.
Suddenly both lips parted and in unison they spoke…
“I’m sorry”
Dark lashes came together, covering the golden eyes momentarily as he blinked, oh
He had not expected that, his tongue brushing along his bottom lip nipping at the skin with his teeth. Were they going to do this? Right here right now? Sure they had touched on their mistakes previously...but this talk was a long time coming. A proper, all encompassing talk on how each had screwed up.
“Sappy-”
Sapnap held up a hand, effectively shutting Quackity up.
“Not...not now, please?”
His voice trembled a little, as his hand came up to cup the other’s cheek. His thumb brushed against the soft skin beneath it, which Quackity leaned into. His hand came up to cover Sapnaps, squeezing gently.
“Yeah, yeah...lets just...”
He took a breath, shuffling to sit in Sapnaps lap and bringing the bong back between them.
“Let's just...go with the flow.”
Sapnap nodded, this time Quackity took the hit and initiated the shotgun, both hands cupping Sapnap’s cheeks as they melted into a proper kiss. Sapnaps arms moved around Quackity’s frame, keeping him as close as humanly possible. Not wanting to let go, months of missing this level of intimacy getting to the both of them due to the lack of inhibitions that came with the intoxicant.
Time began to slip away from the two of them, so caught up in taking in every bit of one another, relearning what pulled sounds from the other, that caused them to relax, mapping out everything once more. Between the kisses and touches, they took hit after hit, setting themselves free. Each had left a myriad of marks along the curve of their necks, which were a muted red right now, but would turn into bright purples and light greens. Pretty little bruises left to show their affections.
Quackity felt warm, not only with the added bodyheat of the balze born he was encasing in his wings as if protecting their moment by shielding them from nothing, or...everything? He felt loved once more, it felt like when they first got together; affections spilling over and seeping into every part of him.
Sapnap never wanted this moment to end, feeling on cloud nine due to a combination of the high and the intoxicating love Quackity was offering up. God he had missed this, their dynamic, how the push and pull of their love languages just...worked so well. The two were both so passionate, and reflected that in all they did. Moments like these were no different.
Sapnap turned the two, letting Quackity’s rest against the blanket as he gently traced his features, resting halfway on top of him. Quackity didn’t fight against the change in position, if anything he welcomed it. Soft coos spilling from his lips, fully relaxed as calloused fingers moved over his skin.
“I love you so much duckling, god, you are stunning..” Sapnap said softly, peppering a few kisses around the avian’s face, focusing along the scar that Technoblade had left.
Quackity couldn't help but tear up some at that, a few tears escaping as the overwhelming amount of love he had been shown dragged up how starved he had been not only before, but even in the last few months back with Sapnap.
He was about to speak when he felt Sapnap brush the few tears away.
“Hey...hey, duckie you're safe with me...what's wrong?”
Quackity sucked in a breath, hoping his voice didn’t break. That was the last thing he wanted. He felt small, far too small for the big emotions that were holding him in a vice like grip.
“...Nothin’s wrong, promise. Jus’ missed you and this a lot.” He said softly, hand seeking out one of Sapnap’s. He laced their fingers together the moment he found what he was looking for.
“I missed you too baby, we’re okay, you’re okay.” He hummed, sitting up some once again so he would be able to hold Quackity properly once more.
To which Quackity was up and wrapping himself back around Sapnap moments later, face nestled in his neck.
“M’sorry...M’ so sorry.” He muttered against his skin, eyes closed tightly.
Darkness had started to settle around the two of them, to which Sapnap took note of as he ran his hand through the ends of the avian's hair, caressing the ridge of his wings.
“You’re okay...let's get back home yeah? It's getting dark.”
Quackity weakly nodded, wrapping his arms and legs tightly around the other.
“Carry me...?”
“Of course.”
Quackity doesn’t think he's ever been more thankful for his fiance than this moment.
Sapnap put everything back in the bag, wrapped an arm around Quackity to make sure he didn't drop him; not that Quackity’s grip wasn’t vice-like...but he was not about to risk it.
He then put the bag in the hand he used to hold onto his partner, standing carefully as he pulled the blanket up in unison. Once safely standing, he wrapped the blanket around the other, and returned the bag to his free hand as they walked.
Quackity stayed quiet through the walk, pressing random kisses to Sapnap's neck to assure him he was awake. Sapnap whispered loving things once in a while as well, sensing Quackity needed to hear it as much as he needed to say it.
The walk back home was as peaceful as the walk to the tree, though this time it was paired with the darkness of night, each other's soft breaths, and distant mobs loitering on the land surrounding them. Thankfully, the mobs remained far enough away Sapnap need not fight.
As he came upon their front door, he once again switched the bag with the inebriants to the hand holding onto Q, then gripping the door handle and opening the door. Warmth, safety and the feeling of home awaiting them, he carefully pashed the threshold and took Quackity to their bedroom.
The blanket and bag were soon discarded, and he settled onto the bed with the avian clinging to him.
“You sleepy?” He questioned, receiving a nod in response. “Alright, let's go to sleep okay? Here...let me help you out of that...”
Muscle memory aided him in skillfully removing the jacket from Quackity who wasn’t letting go of him much. Not that he really minded. He removed his own accessories, and gently removed the beanie from Quackity’s head.
Once they were stripped down to more comfortable sleeping attire, Sapanp scooted back and maneuvered the both of them under the covers. He ran his fingers through Quackity’s feathers, humming a soft lullaby he knew helped Quackity on even his worst nights.
“Love you...” Quackity said as he started to drift, the pull of sleep consuming him.
“Love you too duckie.” He pressed a kiss to the others temple, continuing the action of brushing through his wings, and humming till he saw the tell tell breathing pattern letting him know the avian was asleep.
He smiled softly, there was a lot to talk about in the morning...but he could sleep well knowing things would be back to normal soon.
And with that, he closed his eyes and let himself drift off, with the other tucked securely against his side, wing acting as a protective blanket, arm across his chest as well. Their legs tangled as they remained as close as humanly possible.
