Chapter 1: I. Chasing It Down

Chapter Text

Have you ever heard of someone saying "It can't possibly get worse" in a movie, and then it progressively gets worse?

Yeah. That's what Tommy made of the situation.

It was already a shit day. Well, as shit as the DreamSMP could get.

Tommy was having a bad day already. Wilbur had decided to bother him that day so he was following him around, despite how clearly Tommy wanted to be alone.

"Can you please leave?"

"Hm?"

"I said, can you please leave?" Tommy repeated, making his irritation more noticeable.

"You want me to leave?" Wilbur said, brushing his hand over Tommy's head.

Fuck him.

"Well, not you. Just, I want to be alone I guess? I don't know, sorry." Tommy hated the fact that Wilbur so easily made him feel stupid.

"I don't want to leave, but if you want me to be so bad, I will." Wilbur turned to leave, but Tommy reached out.

"No no, sorry, I didn't mean it, I'm just tired." Tommy quickly fumbled out. Wilbur gave him a warm smile before patting his head and urging Tommy to follow him.

After Wilbur's revival, Tommy wasn't sure what to do. He hated Wilbur, but he also didn't. He didn't hate Wilbur's praises, or his head pats, his hugs, and more. Tommy was unwillingly attached. And it fucking sucked.

Wilbur was one of the reasons he was upset. Another one was Tubbo.

Tubbo had ignored his messages through the communicator and was too busy hanging out with fucking Ranboo. Ranboo sucked, he was annoying and a bother. He had to put up with Ranboo because of Tubbo already, but now he was starting to actually want to be friends with Ranboo.

Which sucked too. Ranboo was so nice for a dickhead. He always made sure he was okay, asked if he needed things constantly, and even said sorry to him for small things.

Tommy had brought Wilbur to Snowchester, he really wanted to talk to Tubbo. He didn't know why, he just did.

Apparently bringing Wilbur wasn't the best idea.

Tommy knocked harshly on Tubbo's door, waiting and telling Wilbur to stop getting so close to the door.

A smaller boy, scars running across the left side of his body and his hair in a mess slowly opened the door. He must have just woken up seeing he didn't have his shirt on.

"Oh, hey Tomm..." He trailed off staring at Wilbur. Tubbo just stared at Wilbur before coughing, his arms coming crossing a bit over his chest to his two identical scars under his chest.

"Hi Tommy, and Wilbur," Tubbo said a bit anxiously.

"Hey Big T, can we come in?" Tommy asked, raising his hands behind his head relaxed.

"Sure," Tubbo opens the door a lot more open before letting both of them in. "I wasn't expecting visitors today, sorry for the mess." Tubbo sheepishly said picking up some chew toys that belong to Michael and a few clothes on the ground. Wilbur and Tommy seated themselves on the couch, Tommy a bit more comfortably as Wilbur just sat with his legs crossed. Tommy noticed a pile of folded clothes, it was a suit, that meant Ranboo was here.

"Is Ranboo here?" Tommy asked lifting his head to look at Tubbo.

"Yeah, he is, he's still in bed. He'll probably be up soon."

As if on cue, they heard a bit of shuffling and watched as a tired Ranboo made his way lazily to Tubbo.

"Come back to bedd" Ranboo whined as he placed his arms around Tubbo. Tubbo cleared his throat making Ranboo open his eyes a bit more.

"We have company," Tubbo said, pointing at the couch.

"Oh. Hi Tommy. And Wilbur?" Ranboo said standing up a bit straighter.

"Sup" Tommy said, not really caring enough to give him an actual response.

"Good morning, Ranboo." Wilbur said, picking at his nails.

"Why are they here again?" Ranboo said, not realizing how rude he sounded, he clearly realized though and tried to correct himself, "Oh, no no, not like that, not in a mean way. Just curious and stuff, y'know?" Ranboo stumbled over his words hoping they realized he hadn't meant any harm.

To be honest, Tommy wasn't sure why they were there, Tommy just wanted to hang out with Tubbo. Tubbo was still in the kitchen, he was making them tea quietly. Tommy knew Wilbur had made Tubbo a bit uncomfortable. Tubbo didn't trust Wilbur, not a bit, but he was in a similar situation to Tommy's. He couldn't hate Wilbur. Wilbur was also like his big brother, taking care of him back in the past. He had been the first person Tubbo had opened up about feeling weird in his body, Wilbur had listened and even suggested he talk to Fundy for a bit of advice. He lingered in the memories a bit, not realizing he had been pouring too much hot water into the cup, quickly feeling the sting he pulled his hand back.

"Ow! Shit!" Tubbo quickly grabbed a rag to clean the mess, a worried Ranboo getting closer.

"Are you okay? Did you burn yourself?"

"I'm fine, I just got a bit burned. Shit, Ranboo can you make the tea? I'm gonna wash my hand or something." Tubbo said, giving his husband a reassuring squeeze on the hand.

"Yeah, of course. Just be careful." Ranboo said before moving to the teacups.

Tubbo went off to the bathroom, Tommy following behind.

"Hey, do you need any help?" Tommy said a bit awkwardly.

"You could have told me you were coming, y'know?" Tubbo said putting his hand under water, it was room temperature water.

"Sorry, must have slipped my mind." Tommy laughed off.

"Especially if he was coming." Tubbo spat out.

"What's wrong with him coming?" Tommy asked defensively. Tommy knew why somewhere in his head, he wasn't sure why he was defending him.

"I don't want him near Michael. Ever."

"Why not?"

"You know why, " Tubbo said, surprised at Tommy's question.

"You don't get to decide who Michael wants to see and stuff." Tommy mumbled out.

"Are you stupid?? Of course, I do! I'm his father, Tommy." Tubbo said, getting angrier by the second. In return, Tommy got angrier as well especially after getting called stupid.

"I'm not fucking stupid." Tommy made sure his tone was anything, but friendly. "You're being sensitive."

"Look who's talking." Tubbo said glaring at Tommy, completely forgetting about his hand.

"What's that supposed to mean, huh?" Tommy said, threatening him to say it. Something flashes in Tubbo's eyes before he turns back to his hand.

"That you're just as sensitive, so fuck off." Tubbo backed down. Tommy would not.

"No, no, go on, please. You were obviously going to say something else." Tommy said raising his hands.

"Tommy, drop it."

"Drop what?? What were you going to say? Come on, spit it out." Tubbo had already been in a bad mood, getting Tubbo angry was not a good idea. Especially since, despite Tubbo's height, Tubbo was definitely stronger than him, and could pummel him.

"You're such a fucking asshole, you know that?"

"Yeah, I'm the asshole. Lay off Wilbur. He's still Wilbur, whether you like it or not."

"Exactly! He's still fucking Wilbur! The Wilbur who USED you, the Wilbur who used US, all of us. The Wilbur who-" Tubbo's voice had risen, being cut off by a shove. Tommy had shoved him. Tubbo's eyes were hidden behind his hair, but he could feel it. He could feel Tubbo's dead stare, and fuck, he was a bit scared.

"Get out."

"What?"

"Get. The. Fuck. Out."

"Tubbo."

"I said get out, Tommy."

Tommy stepped outside of the bathroom, but that's not what Tubbo meant.

"I mean get the fuck out of my house, you AND Wilbur." Tubbo raised his voice, loud enough for a few others to hear. Tommy took a step back watching Tubbo carefully.

"Did you not hear me? GET THE FUCK OUT." Tubbo screamed this time, quickly shoving at Tommy's back and pushing him all the way to the door. Ranboo and Wilbur's heads turned as they watched Tubbo and Tommy.

"Tubbo? Are you okay?" Ranboo said slowly getting up to walk to Tubbo.

"Wilbur, I'm sorry you had to leave early, but I think it's better if you and Wilbur, take your leave." Tubbo ignored Ranboo, turning his head to Wilbur.

"Now."

"Sure thing." Wilbur said coolly, just looking at the front door.

The door slammed shut on Tommy and Wilbur, and he could hear Ranboo frantically asking Tubbo questions from the other side.

Well. Fucking great.

----------------------

On the other side of the land, another couple fought.

Niki was baking, again.

Jack had grown tired of it, he didn't understand his own best friend.

Niki looked happy, and for some dark reason, it upset him.

"Niki." Jack announced he was in the room now.

"Oh! Jack!" She visibly brightened at him, patting her hands down on her apron. She rushed over to him for a hug, which he gladly returned. He really did miss her. They hadn't hung out for a while. Jack had visited her, but his frustrations had made him yell at her. So he kept his distance for a bit.

"You're baking again," Jack said pointing at the items on the table. Niki smiled fondly at the materials.

"I am," She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear. "I've just been a bit busy, so I thought I would bake for a bit. I haven't baked in so long, Jack!" Niki beamed.

"Not since L'manburg." Just at the mention of the name, the atmosphere had dampened.

"Yeah..." She trailed off, going back to stirring the batter. Jack decided to get it out of the way.

"You know about Wilbur, don't you?" Niki stopped stirring, her hands trembled a bit before continuing to hold the whisk tightly.

"I do,"

"What do you make of him?"

"I don't know." Niki said huffing a bit, "He hasn't," Niki paused with an annoyed look, "He hasn't come to see me."

"He hasn't?"

"No. But it's fine, I'm grateful even, I don't want to see him or hear what he has to say."

"Oh." This was going to be awkward.

"Have you seen him?" Niki hesitated a bit before going through with the question.

"He apologized." Jack blurted out.

"What?"

"Wilbur came to see me. He said sorry for everything he did." Jack looked at Niki in the eyes, there was so much in her eyes, he couldn't read her thoughts. "He came to me, Niki. Can you believe it? He said sorry to me."

"And you believe him?" Niki said with a harsh tone.

"Yes. Yes, I do."

"You know what he's done."

"I do."

"He is a man who regrets nothing!" Niki's anger leaking into her tone.

"You don't know that, he hasn't even come by to speak to you."

"Because he's a pussy! I would beat the shit out of him if he even came near me."

"Niki. You aren't the most reliable person."

"Excuse me?"

"Back when we were going to kill Tommy, huh? What was that about?" Jack really didn't mean what he said, he loved Niki like a sister. He didn't know why he was saying what he was saying.

"That was an accident?? Are you seriously pulling that NOW? Jesus Christ, you're such a dick, Jack." Niki huffed, going back to stirring her batter.

"If it was an accident, you would still be helping me in trying to kill him."

"Jack. You're not seriously still on that."

"Yes, Niki! I am! Always have been!" Jack sprawled his arms in the air, to express his anger.

"Jack, you need to understand what Tommy did wasn't his fault. I wanted to kill him because I blamed him. I blamed him for what Wilbur did. Wilbur is at fault here!" Niki stopped what she was doing, she was facing Jack fully, glaring at her. He took in her appearance.

She looked cleaner, happier. She wore a long purple cape, made for winter. It had distinct designs on it, some Enderspeak on it as well, her hair was a fading dark pink. She had a single amethyst earring on her right ear. No wedding ring, that had been there last time.

There were no bags under her eyes.

Oh.

"Wilbur isn't at fault, you just want someone other than yourself to blame." Jack spat out. He didn't mean it, he didn't mean anything that had come out of his mouth, so why did he say it?

"Get the fuck out of my kitchen."

"With pleasure." Jack glared, making sure to flip her off as he slammed the door on his way out.

He felt sick.

-----------------

Tommy and Wilbur went back to there stupid outpost outside of Las Nevadas.

On their way there, a figure showed up.

Of course, it just had to be him.

"Tommy?"

Tommy turned to face the stupid voice, that belonged to a boy with two fox ears at the top of his head and a tail sprouting from behind him.

"Fundy? What the fuck?" Tommy turned to him, Fundy had gone MIA ever since Doomsday, well most people did. "Where the hell have you been?"

Tommy hadn't gotten an answer, Fundy was busy looking at something else. Something behind Tommy. Or rather, someone behind Tommy.

"Wilbur?" Fundy squeaked out quietly. Fundy had known his father was alive, but seeing him was so different.

"Wilbur? Since when do you call your old man that," Wilbur jokes. Wilbur walked up closer to Tommy and Fundy. Tommy could sense the tension, to which Wilbur just smiled at.

"It's not like I should call you Dad."

"Oh? Weird. How are you, Fundy?" Wilbur said, brushing off the remark.

"Why do you care?" Fundy had tried not to snap, but now that Wilbur was in front of him, he was a lot angrier.

"Of course I care, I'm your dad." Wilbur said, the smile on his face not faltering.

"Ha ha, nice one, Wil." Tommy mused a fake laugh. Even Tommy knew that was a load of bullshit. He stood a bit closer to Fundy. Despite how much he and Fundy fought, they had been through a lot together.

"Why are you here?" Fundy said, ignoring the remark. It was no surprise Wilbur hadn't been the best father. He had been a neglectful dad. Tommy knew this for one reason, that reason being that Wilbur paid more attention to him than he did Fundy, his own son.

Thunder rumbled. The sky was getting darker by the second.

"We actually have an outpost right outside Las Nevadas!"

"What? Why?" Fundy asked, glaring at Wilbur.

"Quackity won't let me IN Las Nevadas. So I thought, I might as well build something outside of it. Nothing's stopping me, right?"

"Well, no, but why do you even want to be part of us?" This sparked some silence from Wilbur.

"Us?" Wilbur had a perplexed look on his face. Fundy stiffened.

"Yes. Us."

"As in, you're part of Las Nevadas?" Tommy asked, but he was more worried about the storm than Fundy.

"Yeah, I am. Quackity invited me."

"Pog." Tommy continued to pick at his nails.

"So you left me again? Betrayed me for another country?" Wilbur said, something dangerous in the way he spoke.

"Excuse me??"

"You did the same during the Schlatt presidency, did you not?"

"You fucking- Did you forget?? I was never a traitor, I was a traitor to Schlatt, not to-" Fundy wanted to say family so badly. "Not to L'manburg."

"Even so, you never even told us. How would we have known? You were going to reveal it at the last minute and come in as a hero."

"I was trying to make you proud! You praised Tommy for everything he fucking did, so I'm sorry for wanting to help too." Fundy glared daggers at his father.

"Tommy did good, unlike how he's doing now," Tommy stiffened at that, but just looked away from the two and stared at the storm. Lightning striking surprisingly close to their area.

"If you wanted praise, you should've done good."

"I DID DO GOOD! I'm not going to try to prove myself to a dead man!" Venom dripped off of Fundy's tone.

"I'm not dead anymore, son. I'm here, and you don't need to prove yourself to me, not that you could anyways." Wilbur said it in such a sweet tone that it hurt.

"Guys,"

"Fuck you." Fundy spat.

"Yeah? I didn't do anything to you. You're the last person who should be mad."

"You didn't do anything to me nor for me. You are a neglectful prick!"

"Guys," Tommy tried again.

"Neglectful? In what way? Go on, tell us all about your problems!" Wilbur raised his voice.

"You literally left me behind! You left me! You destroyed our homes! You never paid attention to me."

"GUYS." Tommy made sure he was heard this time. Both of them turned their heads to him. The storm had gotten bad. Really bad. The sky was practically black at this point. The lightning had gotten worse, striking everywhere. The thunder was even more noticeable now, and worst of all, they were right in front of it.

"We need to get out of here." Tommy said.

"Yeah, no shit!" Fundy said, running off. Something flew by them. Straight towards Fundy. Tommy and Wilbur turned their heads, to find Fundy standing nowhere. He was gone?

"FUNDY?" Tommy cupped his hands over his mouth, trying to yell as loud as he could. He heard a thud and he saw Wilbur was gone now too.

He frantically looked around him.

"Wilbur..?"

Thunk .

Tommy began to lose focus and his vision was swallowed by darkness.

------

Elsewhere, the storm had been all over the server.

People frantically getting inside, but the storm was not what they had to worry about.

It was the Gods taking the residents somewhere far away.
