It was night. A dark and cool summer night. The whole village was silent, only a few barks could be heard from time to time.
Sasuke was sitting on the edge of the roof of a building, he was contemplating the landscape that was offered to him. He could see Konoha as a whole. This village that he loved so much and that he had spent his life protecting; this village where he had been born and raised; this village where he had met his dearest friends; and above all, this village where he had met him. Naruto Uzumaki. His best friend and his first love. The love of his life. He would do anything for him.
A noise to his left startled him.
"Naruto. It's you."
"Yeah, aren't you sleeping?"
"I could ask you the same thing."
A faint laugh escaped from their lips. Naruto sat next to Sasuke, getting as close as possible. Both of them side by side were thinking about their memories in this village. The time when the blond had made his declaration, for example. That day, one spring evening, Naruto had watched his comrade training for hours. He had planned to tell him THE thing but the opportunity had never presented itself. Until now. On the roof of the hospital, exhausted, Sasuke had fallen on the ground and decided that it was enough for today. Naruto had then come forward and after repeating his sentence a thousand times he had finally managed to say it. Three words, eight letters, "I love you". Sasuke didn't expect such a thing but he had to face the evidence: he had fallen in love with his best friend. More than a brother, he knew he wanted him in another way. As a result, they had come to know each other better and to love each other even more.
At the thought of this memory, the raven smiled.
"What? What are you laughing at?" Naruto asked.
"I was thinking about the day you told me you loved me for the first time. It was three years ago, right here on the roof of this hospital. Do you remember?"
"Oh yeah, I do. It took a lot of courage to do it."
"But that's why we're together today."
"That's true."
They remained silent for a few moments. The sky was wonderful tonight. Thousands of stars and constellations could be seen shining. This moment was precious, it would become a memory engraved forever in their heart.
Sasuke broke the silence.
"We have to go back, the Hokage is waiting for us."
"A little more, please."
"You know we have no choice."
"I know," Naruto said sadly, "but we never have time to stay together because of all the missions."
"I'm sorry Naruto."
"It's not your fault."
It pained Sasuke to see such a sad look on his boyfriend's face. He leaned towards Naruto and kissed him on his forehead. Naruto remembered the time when they didn't know each other yet, when life was so much easier. He lifted his head and pulled him closer until their lips met like for the first time. It was a soft and passionate kiss, overflowing with love, it was a tender and strong kiss as if by this contact they communicated everything they felt for each other; all the things for which they had no words yet.
"I love you, Naruto"
"I love you Sasuke"
He was with him. They were together. In every way that mattered.
