Gone

Summary:

Jordan and Jonathan process everything that happened with Edge and the fact that their dad has been turned.

Notes:

Apologies that this is so very short, but I was inspired and had to write it real quick.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Leave. Now.”

Jordan ignored his mother’s warning to stop, summoning burning fire from within and letting his rage and fear explode out of his eyes. But Edge fired back, and suddenly he was flying through the air, crashing into the ground, flooded with pain.

Jordan was dimly aware of his brother’s cry, of Jon’s hands scrabbling frantically, dragging him upright again. The world was spinning - Jordan swayed, putting a hand on his brother’s shoulder to steady himself. Mom was facing Edge, he had to do something, he had to protect her. But it was all he could do to keep from falling over.

Edge’s eyes were glowing again, and he felt Jon start to pull away, when suddenly there was a familiar whoosh and Superman - dad - crashed into the ground. Equal parts relief and terror flooded Jordan’s veins. Dad was alive, but he had a horrible feeling he knew what Edge was here for. They were leverage. Leverage against dad. Edge had somehow found their secret, and suddenly Jordan understood why it was so important to keep, even though it broke his heart not to tell Sarah.

“I submit.”

No, no, no. This couldn’t be happening.

And then he was gone. Jordan staggered, and Jonathan caught him with a hand at his elbow. His brother looked equally shell shocked, and their mother was still staring at the sky with tears in her eyes.

After a minute, Lois moved towards the house, and the twins followed. Jordan gazed after his mom, wanting to say something, to ask what to do, anything, but Jon caught his eye and shook his head. It was better to leave her be for now. So they headed upstairs.

……………………………………………………….

At the top of the stairs, Jonathan immediately headed for Jordan’s room rather than his own. He sat down on the bed, and his brother flopped onto the bed next to him.

"You ok?” Jon asked, “You did kinda get whammied with heat vision there.”

Jordan grimaced. “Yeah, I think I’m alright. I was really dizzy for a minute, but it’s fading now. I think some of the whole super-healing thing must be kicking in, otherwise I’d have been fried to a crisp.”

“Dad would be excited about that,” Jonathan said. But clearly it had been the wrong thing to say, as Jordan’s face crumpled and he let out a heartbreaking sob.

“Oh, Jordan, I’m sorry,” Jon mumbled, his own throat tight with impending tears. He tugged his twin into a tight hug, Jordan’s face pressed into his neck, leaving a puddle on his sweatshirt.

Jonathan felt tears trickle down his own face, and he buried his face in Jordan’s curls, taking comfort in the fact that his brother was here and alive.

They stayed like that for hours, until they’d cried themselves out, and fell asleep in a tangled pile of limbs on Jordan’s bed, dreams haunted by the monster they feared their father had become.

Notes:

Did y'all see the promo for 1x12? That scene with Jordan crying!! My heart. Can't wait until July 13.
