Work Text:

“Are ya dating anyone, Kita-san?” Atsumu blurted in the middle of practice. Everyone turned to look at the setter and captain.

“Yes,” Kita replied.

“Whaaaaaaa, yer not even gonna try and hide it?” Atsumu exclaimed.

Kita shook his head, “Why should I? Hiding it would be denying that I am dating someone. It’d be like rejecting him in front of everyone.”

Him? Atsumu thought. Hold on, Kita-san is dating a guy! This was an unexpected development.

“Go back to practice Atsumu,” Kita sighed and walked away. Atsumu did NOT want to deal with one of Kita’s lectures so he dropped the subject and walked back to the other side of the court to set for his teammates.

“The hell was that about ‘Tsumu?” Osamu, his twin brother, hit his head once he was close enough.

“Ouch, screw you ‘Samu! I’ll tell you later after practice,” Atsumu retorted and stuck out his tongue.

***

“Alright idiot, spill,” Osamu said sternly as he plopped down on Atsumu’s bed.

Atsumu walked out of his bathroom in a pair of black sweatpants and a maroon t-shirt, “Jeez, fine.” He also sat down on his bed.

“The other day I was walking by Kita-san’s locker and I saw him taking a flower and a note out of it. I wanted to see what it was about, so I hid nearby. You’ll never believe what I saw!” Atsumu exclaimed.

“Stop with the drama and just tell me ‘Tsumu!” Osamu threw a pillow at his brother’s face, effectively knocking him off the bed.

“Ow, fuck you,” Atsumu said from the floor, not making any effort to stand back up. “As I was saying, I hid nearby and watched as Kita-san read the note and looked at the flower. He was smiling and I swear I saw him blushing!”

“And that’s what caused your sudden outburst today? That’s stupid,” Osamu sighed and pulled out his phone to text Suna, who had sent him a few pictures.

“You see, Kita-san isn’t just dating anyone! It’s a guy! Like a guy guy!” Atsumu jumped up off the floor.

“Just let him live his life, damnit! Yer gay too! For that Sakusa guy from Itachiyama even!” Osamu yelled out in frustration.

“Not gay, bisexual with a lean towards guys,” his brother corrected, “And Omi-kun is hot! Besides, I’m not the one hopelessly pining for Sunarin.”

Atsumu saw his brother blushing as soon as he mentioned his crush on their friend. “I told ya to stop bringing that up!” Osamu threw another pillow at Atsumu’s face, but he dodged it this time.

“I wanna know who he’s dating though,” Atsumu sighed and plonked down in a beanbag chair.

“If it’s a guy I bet you anything it’s another of the third years on the team,” Osamu shared his thoughts on the situation.

Atsumu thought about it for a moment. If Osamu was right, that meant there were only three people that Kita could possibly be dating. “Omimi-san, Aran-kun, and Akagi-san,” Atsumu listed the three possibilities. Osamu raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah they’re the only ones I think it could be,” Atsumu finally said. “Alright, change of plans. First, I find out who Kita-san is dating. Then, I will get you and Sunarin together.”

Osamu sighed for the millionth time that day and got up from Atsumu’s bed, “Tell Rintarou anything and see what I’ll tell yer precious ‘Omi-Omi’.”

Atsumu grinned, he knew that Osamu wouldn’t actually do anything, “Aww, you even call him by his first name. That’s cute,” he laughed mischievously.

“Grr, don’t tell him anything!” With that Osamu slammed the door to Atsumu’s room and went downstairs to help their mother cook dinner.

Atsumu shrugged and took out his phone, he turned on the screen and saw a few messages from Sakusa. There were some others from Suna and other friends, but he could read those later. Instead of answering Sakusa’s messages, Atsumu decided to call him.

“Hey Omi-Omi,” Atsumu greeted as soon as Sakusa picked up. “Aww, yer so sweet.”

He listened carefully as Sakusa talked to him about his day at school and practice.

“I know, I know. I wanna see ya soon too. This long-distance stuff is hard,” Atsumu paused to let Sakusa talk, “Osamu, nah. He’s still as clueless as ever. I mean he can’t even tell that Sunarin has an obvious crush on him.”

Atsumu had been walking around, but suddenly stopped in his tracks. His face got hot and he could feel himself blushing, “Omi, you idiot! What? Yeah I’m an idiot too, I know.”

***

The next day began Atsumu’s quest to find out who Kita’s boyfriend was. The plan was simple, he’d carefully follow Kita around when he wasn’t in class and see if he snuck off anywhere to see someone. The biggest problem was how to walk around unnoticed. He was MIYA ATSUMU. It was hard for him to go around unnoticed. For this exact reason he had recruited Suna to help him. In exchange for some cute pictures of Osamu of course.

Atsumu had also somehow managed to convince Osamu to join in, without telling him about Suna also helping. All it took was some onigiri and promising to take a few pictures of Suna in case he saw him throughout the day.

“Those two are such weirdos, wanting pictures of each other,” Atsumu mumbled under his breath. “I might as well push them into a closet and see if they f- oomf.” He hadn’t been looking where he was walking and ran into someone.

“Sorry Atsumu.”

“Oh, Omimi-san,” Atsumu blinked in surprise, “It’s my fault, sorry about that. Have you seen Kita-san though?”

Omimi looked at him in silence for a few seconds, “I’m actually about to go see him.”

Ah. This piqued Atsumu’s interest. He nodded and thought about this for a moment, “Alright, I won’t keep ya any longer then. See ya later at practice,” Atsumu flashed Omimi a smile and pretended to walk away.

Omimi-san and Kita-san dating? I mean they do act like an old married couple, especially when they drink tea together. Atsumu was lost in thought when his phone buzzed in his pocket.

Lil’ bro Osamu
‘Just bumped into Aran-kun’
‘He said that he walked with Kita-san
to school this morning, but hasn’t seen
him since’

Atsumu
‘I just bumped into Omimi-san’
‘He told me that he was going to go see
Kita-san right now’

Now that Atsumu thought about it, didn’t Omimi and Kita have the same class? They already spent a lot of time together, why would they have to spend breaks together too? His phone buzzed again, this time from Suna.

Sunarin
‘Akagi-san just told me that he walked
by Omimi-san and Kita-san like a minute
ago’
‘Apparently they were sitting together
really close to each other’
‘I asked Akagi-san and he said that they
aren’t dating’

Atsumu
‘Sunarin, why’d you have to go and tell
Akagi-san?’

Sunarin
‘Dunno, but he just laughed and told
us he wasn’t the lucky guy’

Atsumu
‘Us????’

Sunarin
‘Oh yeah, I ran into ‘Samu too’
‘You’re a bitch for not telling me he was
in on this too’

Atsumu
‘Hey, think about what I’m giving you
for this’
‘creep’
‘Just ask stupid ‘Samu out already’

Sunarin
‘Yeah, no can do’
‘I know he’s gonna reject me’

Atsumu
‘NO HE WON’T’
‘SBAJHSJDHSKHJAHDJAHUWQIJDHJK
CNDUJHCAKJCIDHJN’

Atsumu was done with their bullshit. He couldn’t wait for the day that they got together and he could say ‘I told you’ to their faces. Heck, this was making him remember his days of simply crushing hopelessly on Sakusa. It had started in his first year when they both met at the All-Japan youth training camp. Atsumu practically fell for Sakusa as soon as he saw him. He somehow managed to get his phone number and the two kept in contact. Then they played against each other in the interhigh. Inarizaki lost, but Atsumu technically came out as the winner because Sakusa accidentally confessed to him afterwards.

He couldn’t tell anybody of course. What was I supposed to tell the team? ‘Hey guys! I know we just lost this real big match and all, but I started dating the ace of the team that beat us!’ Hell nah. Osamu only knew that Atsumu liked Sakusa, even he didn’t know about them dating.

***

After a whole day, Atsumu had found nothing. There was no proof to discard neither Ojiro nor Omimi as Kita’s possible boyfriend. Practice was finally over and Atsumu was walking home with Osamu and Suna when he realized that he forgot something.

“Shit, I forgot my phone in the locker room,” Atsumu muttered. He looked at Osamu and Suna as if to silently tell them to not wait for him. They nodded back at him and Atsumu took off running towards the school.

It wasn’t long before he entered the familiar room and looked around for his phone. He searched the benches and his locker before finding it on top of the lockers.

“C’mon Shin, no one’s here,” Atsumu heard voices coming from outside. Based on the accompanying footsteps, he was able to deduce that they were coming towards the locker room. Having nowhere to escape, Atsumu hid behind the lockers in a corner of the room.

In came two figures through the door. One was visibly taller than the other.

“We can’t be sure Ren, what if the janitor walks in and sees us?” The shorter figure said. Atsumu recognized them by their voices, even in the dark. Quietly, he took out his phone and started recording the conversation.

“It’ll be quick, I promise,” the taller boy said as he took off his t-shirt.

The shorter figure hummed in response and also took off his shirt, “I think the twins are starting to catch on to us, don’t you?”

“What does it matter? I know you don’t care if they know,” Atsumu watched as the taller figure moved to put his arms around the shorter one.

Man, these two sure do act like an old married couple. Atsumu shifted slightly in his cramped hiding spot.

“Fine Ren, come here,” the shorter male pulled down the taller one so that they were at the same level and kissed him. It almost made Atsumu gag to be honest. He and Sakusa had kissed before, but he’d never seen other people do it.

“Atsumu.”

Shit. Fuck. Damnit. I’m dead.

“Come out now, I know you’re there.”

Atsumu slowly stepped out of his hiding spot and stood where both of the boys could see him. “Sorry Captain, I didn’t mean to.”

Kita sighed and put on a clean shirt. Omimi did the same. They stayed silent for a moment before looking each other in the eyes and bursting into laughter. Atsumu watched with wide eyes as the two most serious people on the team laughed together.

“I know you didn’t do it on purpose, Atsumu,” Omimi finally said. He put an arm around Kita and brought him closer. “You’re the first to find out about us.”

“I promise I won’t say anything until you guys tell the team!” Atsumu blurted.

“It’s fine, I’m sure you’ll go home running to tell Osamu anyways. Ren and I have to get going now, but I’ll see you tomorrow,” Kita said and picked up his bag to leave.

“Bye Atsumu,” Omimi waved and left with Kita.

Wait, did that really just happen? Oh what the actual fu-

Atsumu’s thoughts were interrupted when his phone began to ring. It was his mother, she was worried because she didn’t see him arrive at home with Osamu.

“Yeah mom, I’ll be there in a moment. I just forgot my phone at school. Yep, see ya.”

***

“‘Samu! You won’t guess what happened!” Atsumu slammed open the door to his brother’s room. “Wait, Sunarin-”

On Osamu’s bed sat Osamu himself and Suna. Well, Suna was in Osamu’s lap to be exact.

“Fuuuuuck, I can’t unsee that now!” Atsumu groaned and rubbed his eyes dramatically.

“Shut up ‘Tsumu! Yer the one who kept bugging me about this,” Osamu yelled.

Suna sighed, but stayed in Osamu’s lap, “I took your advice and just asked him out. For once your advice worked.”

“Yeah, duh! I knew you guys were crushing on each other since ya first met! Goodness, I’ve had to deal with both of you guys being weirdos for soooo long!”

“Hey at least I have a boyfriend unlike you!” Osamu retorted.

“Well joke’s on you! I’ve been dating Omi-kun for a few months now!”

“What?”

“What.”

“WHAT?”

The room was silent for a good two minutes. None of the boys dared to talk.

“That reminds me, Omimi-san and Kita-san are dating,” Atsumu finally said what he had come to say. He was tired and left immediately.

“WHAT?!” Both Suna and Osamu asked at the same time.

Notes:

This honestly sucks, but I had to write it. Otherwise my idea would have gone to waste. I also really love OmiKita. I wrote this in like 3 hours instead of sleeping.

I promise I'm working on Missed Calls! Plus a few other fics that have yet to be released.
