Chapter Text
Obi-Wan coughed up blood and pressed one of his hands further onto the now free bleeding gunshot wound in his chest.
It got harder to breathe properly, most likely because his lungs slowly started to fill up with his own blood.
It didn’t feel real. A shiver went through him as he moved his blood smeared hand over his extremely swollen stomach and his heart ached at the thought that Bail‘s and his child is most likely to die because of the wound.
Tears stung in his eyes and a quit gasp escaped his mouth as he thought about it.
Bail immediately sprinted with a horrific look on his face besides his really serious injured husband ,who was not only near death but in his final pregnancy month too.
As soon as he reached his dying partner he fell down on his knees and tried to cradle his hands comfortably around Obi-Wan‘s head.
Obi-Wan coughed up more blood and pressed into the wound once more.
„You‘re going to be a alright heart,I promise...“
Bail spoke and tears started to form inside of his wide opened eyes.
„I don’t think so..“
Obi-Wan answered, closed his eyes and pulled his eyebrows once more together as another wave of pain hit him.
Bail could only watch and gently cupped the auburn ones head with one hand so Obi-Wan could lean into the touch.
It hurts, Obi-Wan thought. It hurts to leave the world like that. He always thought about dying of old age with Bail and their child near him.
Of course in this case Bail‘s with him to make his last few minutes a bit more comfortable but his child isn’t there. At least not fully grown up and ready for the world.
No, It isn’t even born yet. And god that thought teared another painful gasp out of him.
He quietly whimpered and reached out for Bails other hairy hand as best as he could with the energy slowly leaving his dying body.
Bail quickly took it and squeezed it tightly.
„You.. dont.. you-you can’t ....not now..“
Bail stuttered slightly and pressed Obi-Wan‘s hand once more.
He didn’t want him to die. Not now, not in the future. He couldn’t loose his best friend and husband not forget to mention. He silently cursed himself for not being there sooner. If he just reacted quicker maybe Obi-Wan would still have a chance. He also didn’t understand or just couldn’t believe why they would do such a thing.
Don’t they deserve a happy love life as well? Why would people be still against them even if they don’t even have the urge to harm them? Bail couldn’t answer the questions that were floating around in his head.
He wished so deeply that things would have turned out different.
But the future had other plans as it seems and now there here, together and one of
them‘s lying in a pool of dark, cold blood.
Obi-Wan finally let out a heartbreaking little sob as he laid there cradled against Bail‘s arms and body. Tears found their way down his cheeks and he could taste the salty tears mixed with the blood gurgling up in his throat.
„I love you so much Bail...“
Obi-Wan started and needed to pause because he had to cough once again.
Bail only watched and ran a few fingers through the auburn ones hair to soothe him.
„a..and I’m so sorry that our child didn’t even get a single.. chance to.. live..“
Obi-Wan finished saying and another hard cough ripped through him.
Bail moved their two interlaced hands to lay upon the dying ones swollen belly and inhaled deeply before speaking.
„Obi-Wan.. no.. please stop apologizing.. you did nothing wrong.. it’s my fault you ended up here lying in the grass while-while ..bleeding.. to death.."
Bail swallowed hardly closed his eyes and turned his chin down so it would somehow reach his chest.
„I-I don’t know what to do..!! I love you so much.. a-and...you‘re dying and god! I can’t even help you!!“
He started sobbing and opened his eyes again to stare at the weak sight of the two eyes belonging to Obi-Wan. They started to get glassy.
Their two hands still laid upon Obi-Wan‘s pregnant stomach and just as the baby inside moved again, neither Bail nor Obi-Wan could pull themselves together for much longer and broke the painful silence with loud heartbreaking whimpering.
Bail‘s whole body shook as he sobbed out loudly and held Obi-Wan more closer to himself. The auburn ones face lost his color real quick and his mouth only managed to escape a rasped short breath. His eyes got hazy and he felt too tired to keep them open for much longer so he simply closed them and felt the darkness wrap around him like a warm and cosy blanket.
But he still wanted to get some words off his mind while he was still able to.
‚...Bail...“
He quietly said with a rattling breath what brought the mentioned one’s attention again.
„..is‘ not... your faul'.. a’right ?“
Bail nodded slowly and this was the moment were the last breath escaped Obi-Wan‘s with blood smeared lips. It didn’t feel painful anymore. It was just closing your eyes and preparing for an endless sleep.
But for Bail it was the final moment to break out into an uncontrollable mix of sobbing and shaking. He realised that Obi-Wan was now fully gone and hell it was a horrible fact to know. His sight was still blurred because of all the upcoming tears but he didn’t care.
He just leaned down a bit to press gentle kisses onto Obi-Wan‘s now slightly parted lips.
They felt cold. Not full of love and joy they once had been. They were dead.
Bail sobbed and couldn’t seem to stop.
„I'm so sorry..“
He first whispered it against Obi-Wan‘s lips but then again and again more loudly as he hold the dead body more closer to himself.
His one hand stroked over Obi-Wan‘s belly and another sob escaped his mouth.
He thought that it was already hard enough to loose Obi-Wan but loosing his only and not even born child was just as worse.
He drew the body now much closer to himself, wrapped his arms tightly around it and cried out in pain.
It was no physical harm no, it was seated right inside his heart that now broke apart.
