Once Upon a Dream

Summary:

Soulmates have a special bond. Their souls are connected even in their dreams. They can telepathically have conversations with each other or send messages to them. And it awkwardly feels much more real than a dream. After all, a dream can change their lives forever.

Notes:

Waddup guys? Here I am, publishing my first one-shot in here! Yes, it's exactly the same of Wattpad - I just wanted to publish something on my profile lol

Right, I'll let you scrowl down to dive in this fairytale I wrote at 2AM after meditating, with a good cup of strawberry tea and fine music - and I was in a great mood tbh

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The memories won’t leave his mind tonight. He missed everything about his girl. He misses the warm summer nights with her, the blissful feeling that flushed his body and soul when she thawed on his arms, telling that she loved him dearly. And the thought of his girl marrying another man in the next gives him goosebumps.

But when you love someone, you set them free.

You let them go to find their own happiness, even if it causes your soul to shatter in a thousand pieces.

‘Loving is letting go’, He repeated in the back of his mind.

Soon, he drifted away to sleep, thinking about her chaste smile and her bright, sapphire eyes that could be compared to the most shining star in a starry summer night.

The blossom scent, coming from the field covered by a silky blanket of white gardenias flushes their lungs in a sweet, fresh breeze. Her sky blue musselin dress whirls around her legs as the wind brushes smoothly when she runs freely through the flowered field.

They run together, hand in hand, in the infinite field that seems to blend with the blue horizon. A feeling of freedom is simmering in their veins as they laugh happily. She lets her hand run through the gardenias, tickling her fingers gently. It feels like heaven.

Kate turns around to Leo when she finds a huge tree, with birds crowing a sweet melody from the trunks of the canopy, a big shadow dimply outlining their silhouettes. She is grinning widely when he wraps his arms around her body, lifting her up slightly. Her hands rest on his chest when his lips brush softly against hers, both smiling. A spark of electricity runs down her spine every time his magical lips touch hers.

Their eyes meet again when she pulls back. That intense gaze of hers could reach the deepest part of his soul. It could read his mind as if it is an open book. They have this special connection, their special magic that will never drift away.

Her golden hair reflected the sun's warm gleams, illuminating her porcelain face with a yellowish light, making her look like an angel.

Kate strokes his cheek gently, studying carefully all of his features before kissing his warm lips once more. Leo holds his girl tightly in his embrace, afraid that she could vanish in a blink of an eye.

His touch was magical, as well as their love. It was unique, everlasting. Nothing and no one could come between them.

Leo buried his head on her shoulder, closing his eyes and enjoying the warmth of her soft skin. He doesn’t think he could love her more than he loves now.

The sky seems to be a blend of orange, pink and yellow when he opens his eyes again, finding an endless sea in front of him. Both are sitting on the soaked sand. Kate has her head resting on his chest, their fingers tangled as they watch the waves sparking under the last gleams of sun.

It’s like a Van Gogh painting, but more. It feels real, even though they know it is not.

She lifts her look up to him, finding his piercing blue eyes. The way he looks at her, with such passion and adoration, as if she is the only woman in the world could tell more than a thousand words.

Leo smiles weakly at her, kissing her hair as she snuggles onto him, mumbling a silently ‘I love you’.

The salty breeze tickles her cheeks. The warm water touches her fingertips. But him, only him, could make her feel like this. Feel alive. Feel herself.

She lets herself go. But never letting go of his hand.

Soon, the moonlight can light up all the mountains, contrasting with the city lights above them. It’s a majestic, starry night, as bright as his diamond eyes when he talks about the love of his life.

Kate and Leo are laying together, watching the stars shining in each other’s embrace. She closes her eyes, enjoying his warmth and the fresh, night air. The blissful feeling washes over her soul when she thinks they are finally together, at least by now.

They are meant to be, and they know that.

It seems like their souls blend perfectly together, and their hearts beat in sync. He knows her, body and soul, and so does she.

Kindred spirits.

Almost every person on earth looks for them. Some keep looking for the rest of their lives. Others have the luck Kate and Leo had. They just wish they could rescue that time wasted on stupid fears and silly insecurities.

Leo strokes her arm softly up and down, watching her drift away in a deep sleep in his arms. She looks even more stunning with all her features relaxed and the pale moonlight reflected on her silky skin. Her eyelashes are resting gently on her cheek as he watches her chest up and down with every breath she takes.

You know that you are madly in love when you start noticing those minimal details.

He thanks his lucky stars for this night.

Beautiful high trees surround them when he opens his eyes again. It’s wooden trunks seem to reach the clouds and the munchs that sways with the fresh, gentle breeze draws mosaics that reflect the golden sunlight on the ground.

Leo's eyes follow the sound of the streaming water. There’s a crystalline lake right above him, sparking magically when the warm sun gleam reached the running water.

And there she is. Lying in between the few yellow blossoms that grow with the non pruned grass. She is watching the clouds change its shape when Leo wraps his arms around her.

Kate allows herself to thaw in his embrace, resting her cheek on his chest with closed eyes. Leo takes her hand in his, playing with her fingers as the diamond ring he gave her sparkles under the sunlight.

Five huge diamonds and a special meaning, the two of them and their three beautiful offspring. He remembers how he wanted to give her something as special as their friendship, with a deep meaning that only them would understand. She could symbolically take them together with her to wherever she goes.

He is her sun, he makes her shine like the diamonds he gave her.

Kate intertwines their fingers, taking his hand to her lips, kissing his knuckles gently. His eyes close for a brief moment as he melts with her soft touch.

The crypting red flames could heat the whole room, giving it an orangish light. It was an old wooden house, built in the middle of a snow vale as the flakes slowly fell off the light blue sky.

They are sitting in front of the fireplace, she is in his lap with her legs wrapped on his hips. He stares intensely in her radiant sapphire eyes.

“I love you, Kate.” Leo whispers genuinely, his voice sounding like a blur. The corner of her lips bend up.

“I love you more, Leo.” She cupped his face in her hands, stroking his cheek with her thumb.

Oh, how they mean those three words.

But Leo doesn’t want to let go of their memories, of their moments together. He doesn’t want to let go of her. His heart shatters more and more as that thought surrounds his mind. The thought of losing her.

He took so long to find out that she is the woman he wants to spend the rest of his life, that now she is slipping through his fingers, and he knows that he needs to let her go. Because her happiness means more than his own.

With water in his eyes, he presses his lips on hers one last time, holding her tight, afraid that she could disappear when he closes his eyes.

“No matter what happens,” He pulls away, clasping their eyes once more. A single tear streamed down her face. It’s a bittersweet feeling. “I will never, ever stop loving you.”

She tries to smile, but her lips are too trembling for her to do or say anything. The tears are out of control, as well as her feelings. She wraps her arms around his neck, burying her face in it, taking in his scent. She hopes that could express what her lack of words would be.

He holds her back, soaking her wool jumper. But what really matters is their chaste, endless love.

Their love is like the sun's flame, it will never stop shining, no matter what happens.

Leo madly opens his eyes at the sudden noise of his phone, ringing on the desk.

He didn’t want to wake up from that. It felt so real that he thought she was really his.

The sorrow flushes away when he sees who is calling him.

“Hey, Kate.” His voice is hoarse.

She sighs. “I have something to tell you, Leo.” An uncomfortable silence pairs in the air. All that she says, with a broken voice is:

“I dreamed with you last night.”
