Kurt waits for an answer to the question he just asked but doesn’t get one. He looks up to see Blaine with a look on his face similar to the one he wore so long ago, when they first said I love you to each other.
“Blaine.” Kurt bites his lip as it curls into a smile. Blaine blinks and seems to come back to attention.
Blaine clears his throat. “Could you say that again?”
“Were you not listening?”
“No, I was, I just like hearing your voice.”
Kurt raises an eyebrow in challenge. “I think you weren’t listening.”
Blaine chuckles, dropping his gaze and smiling at the floor. “Yeah, maybe.”
“How could you be so rude, Mr. Anderson,” Kurt says with a hand on his chest, the most dramatically offended expression he can conjure on his face.
Blaine pouts a little, a twinkle in his eye. “I thought it was Mr. Anderson-Hummel now.”
Kurt hums and brings his left hand in front of his face, pretending to examine the ring that sits there. (The ring that matches the one on Blaine’s left ring finger, the rings that they exchanged yesterday, the ring – )
“We might have to reconsider that,” he teases, meeting Blaine’s eyes again, and this time he can’t stop the grin that spreads across his face just from the thought that they are married.
“Does it help to say that I actually was distracted by your voice?” Blaine asks with a similarly wide smile, leaning closer. “And your face?”
“Too late, Mr. Anderson. Divorce is in your immediate future.” Kurt squirms away as Blaine reaches for him, but gives in and lets Blaine wrap his arms around him, hooking his chin over Kurt’s shoulder.
Blaine kisses the skin under his ear. “Really? That’s heartbreaking.”
“Mm-hmm.” Kurt holds Blaine’s hands in front of him, playing with his husband’s ring.
“Guess I should make the announcement that I’m back on the market.”
“Wow, so eager to move on,” Kurt jokes even as Blaine holds him tighter, his love and warmth seeping into Kurt’s body.
When Blaine doesn’t come back immediately with a teasing reply, Kurt brushes his ring finger again, realizing. “Too close to home, huh?” he asks lightly. He turns in Blaine’s arms and leans his forehead against his husband’s. “I’m sorry.”
Blaine shakes his head. “No - I mean… a little. But not really,” he says, and meets Kurt’s eyes with his – the gold that Kurt could get lost in forever but also keeps him there… “It was okay. It was nice.” Blaine smiles. “I guess… the fact that we can say that… and I was fine, you know? We were fine.”
Kurt smiles back. He felt it, too. They’re okay.
He closes the gap between their bodies and kisses Blaine. “Does this mean you forgive me?” Blaine asks, voice low when they pull away, foreheads still pressed together.
“Maybe,” Kurt replies with a small smile, and then, in a whisper, “Yeah.”
They stand in each other’s arms, starting to sway lightly in the silence. Husbands, Kurt keeps thinking. They did it. They made it.
They can do this.
Blaine breaks the quiet. “So what was it you asked me?”
“I forgot.”
