Chapter 1: I'm Strong on the Surface, Not All the Way Through

Chapter Text

Thank God Mikoto wasn’t here.

Izumo slips his arms under Tatara’s unconscious body, the back of his head soaking Izumo’s sleeve with blood. “Yata,” He turns to a panicked Yata, “Take him to the hospital, quick.” Knowing Yata still had his skateboard with him, he would certainly get there faster than Izumo would on foot. Yata quietly nods and they exchange Tatara’s body from one man’s arm to the next.

As he watches Yata skate off at the speed of sound, he dials Mikoto’s number. Shit, what was he gonna tell him?

At least Tatara was still alive.

After receiving the phone call and the location of the hospital, Mikoto nearly crushed his phone in his hand. What sick fuck hurt Tatara now? He growls, turning to his door only to see Anna standing there.

“Mikoto.” A worried expression revealed on her face. “Mikoto, we have to-“

“I know.” Anna runs to his side and grabs his hand tightly, closely walking by his side as they walk to the hospital together.

“Yata.” Izumo ran in the hospital hall to see Yata sitting outside a room, blood covering his white shirt as he stares at the floor. “Where is he?”

“They, they said he almost died.” Yata’s voice trembles, his hands tightening around the jacket tied around his waist. “What if I didn’t get here fast enough,” He whispers any intrusive what-if thoughts and Izumo sits beside him, putting a hand on his shoulder.

“He’s going to live, alright? Don’t worry about the what-ifs and what-could-haves. You got here with him alive and that’s all that matters.” After the procedure on Tatara,  Izumo stands up once one of the nurses walk out, managing to talk her into letting  them visit him as he has no other family than Homra.

As Mikoto and Anna enter the hospital together, the majority of heads turn their way with everyone staying out of their path. Anna closes her eyes as she senses how close Tatara got to death, her hand tightening on Mikoto’s hand. “He’s alive.” She whispers before they stop in front of Izumo and Yata.

“Where is he.” It wasn’t a question, it was more of a demand. He looks up to the the window they’re in front of. As he heads to the door of the room, Izumo stands up.

“He hasn’t waken up yet, you know the doctors are gonna say somethin’.” Mikoto pauses for a second, continuing to burst into the room despite what Izumo said.

And there Tatara was—bandaged, in a gown, and unconscious on the bed, with doctors surrounding him.

“Sir, you shouldn’t be in here.” One of the nurses say before she could take in Mikoto’s entire appearance.

“Is that Mikoto Suoh?” Another nurse says, his eyes wide at the man whose eyes were now glowing red.

The surgeon says the name of the next tool he needs and a third nurse hands him what he needs before turning to the two distracted nurses.

“This boy is a member of Homra, I talked to someone else about him and they’re all here to make sure he’s okay.” Her gaze averts to Mikoto for a second before grumbling, “But it is rude to just walk in like that.”

And just like that, the other nurses reluctantly turn from Mikoto but would occasionally look back to him, now seated on a chair with Anna on his lap.

Once they finished the procedure and allow for visiting time for the rest of the clan, Anna walks up to the bed and reaches for Tatara’s hand. Mikoto gets up as well to lift her, sitting her beside Tatara’s sleeping form. “Tatara.” She says softly, leaning over to lay her head on his stomach. Eventually, Tatara awakes up with a soft groan, his hand reaching up to feel his throbbing head. “Hurts.” He grumbles, opening his eyes and winces at the light. “So bright…”

“Totsuka!” Yata rushes to the bed, “Are you okay? Do you need anything?”

“Huh?” Tatara looks around while squinting his eyes, bringing himself to slowly sit up. “What-“

“Careful, Totsuka. You just almost died now, don’t be getting up.” Izumo says, a small smile of relief on his face. After Tatara awoke, the tension that filled the hospital hallway switched into an aura of relief in the room.

Anna hugs Tatara’s waist. “You scared me, Tatara.”

Tatara looks down to Anna, confusion written all over his face as he also looks around the room. His head hurt and was mostly void, except for one question.

“I’m sorry… Who are you?”

Notes:

Sorry that the first chapter is short, I wanted to leave it on somewhat of a cliffhanger. Hope you enjoy
