Diana’s POV
To be honest, I never thought highly of James when I first met him. I once thought of him as a snobbish little brat who got in my way. It was, until, I saw him transform into Kamen Rider Zero-One, and I became the first Witch he befriended. Also, because of our large gap (he’s 20 and I’m 27), he began to treat me like an older sister, asking for advice and comfort when he’s feeling down.
So, it came to my surprise when he decided to visit. He knew where I was staying during all of this. I heard him knocking on my door. “Hi, Diana!” I knew it was him, so I let him in. “Can I talk to you?”, he asked.
I asked him to sit down on my couch, and I asked him, “So, what brought you here?”. He kept silent, too shy to even answer. “Please answer me, James!” I begged him. “I would like to know how you feel.” It was after I told him this that he decided to speak. “Diana, don’t make me feel awkward.” I mean, he’s not wrong, but he didn’t answer my previous question.
“I came here…to hang out with you.” He told me. “James, that is a rather pedestrian excuse.” I replied. “James, tell me, what wrong? Don’t worry, I won’t bite.”
James suddenly responsed with, “Look, I’ve been so much crap that I can’t even begin.” I think know what’s going on. James is, very emotional, to say the least. I also picked up that he has problems with stress. But then, he told me that he didn’t have any friends growing up. “You wanted someone to talk to, James?” I asked him.
“Specifically, someone who’s older than me.” He replied. “You see, Diana, my dad left me as a child, I have elder siblings that don’t have time for me, and friends dying in front of me.” That’s when my heart sank.
“Um, James, I have a confession…” I told him. “I actually don’t have siblings. Not to mention Akko is my first true friend.” I try to reason out to him, but he won’t budge. I think this stems from the fact that I just can’t relate to him, since he’s much younger than me. “So, what’s your favorite thing in the world?” I decided to ask.
“My twin sister, Emily.”, he replied. “She’s basically my best friend in the family.” I tried to find a response, but I couldn’t. James is basically everything I wasn’t, but I didn’t want to admit it. So, I changed the topic. “By the way, James…” I told him. “I actually like your surname, Lancaster.” By that point, James has become really confused.
“Is this becoming awkward, Diana?” He told me. “I mean, this doesn’t seem to be working out.” That’s when I revealed to him that I’m not from here, but rather from an alternate universe. Suddenly, James went upstairs and grabbed a guitar, and started playing some tunes, and he’s surprisingly good at it. One I liked in particular was his take on “Dear You”.
“You know, James, we’ve been hanging out for a few hours already, and yet you already made me feel welcome.” I admitted. “Not to mention you’re a better version of me.”
His response shook me to my core. “Diana, how am I a better version of you if you’re a Witch, and I’m a human?” I mean, he’s right. We’re both completely different people, and we’re both unique. As time had passed, we’ve become accustomed to each other’s company. “To be honest, James, you’re the little brother I never had.” I confessed to him.
“Really?! Thanks, Diana!” He replied in amazement, and hugged me for it. “By the way, it’s almost 6pm. You should probably leave now.” I politely told him to go home, since I’m worried that his mother and elder siblings would be looking for him. And then, someone rang the bell. It was his sisters, Zora and Emily. “Yeah, your house is near our place, so we knew where to go.” Zora told me. As for Emily, well she’s, uh, a bit too excited to meet me. “So you’re Diana Cavendish? Nice to meet you!” Emily shook my hand and started hugging me.
“Yeah, my twin sister can be a fangirl sometimes.” James told me. “Anyway, bye Diana!”
Once James left, I pulled out my Gatrikephone and decided to call my wife, Akko, who’s currently in Wonder World. “Hi, Akko. Are you okay?” I asked her.
“Oh, I’m okay, Honey. I’m just taking care of Maya here.” She replied. “I heard you made a new friend. Is that true?”
“Yeah. His name is James Lancaster.” I answered Akko. “He’s basically the little brother I never had.”
“Really?! Oh, I can’t wait to meet him.” She replied. “See you in a few days, Honey.”
“Bye, Peaches. See you soon.” We both hung up, and I returned to my couch, picking up my tea.
The End…
