Work Text:
It was late, the moon was pale accented by the falling snowflakes as it illuminated a begrudged blonde trudging over the partially frozen sidewalk.
Katsuki's mood was not foul over the weather per usual, as a matter of fact his clunky hero boots and multiple layers provided enough warmth to make anyone oblivious to the cold, but rather over the annoying circumstance of his late night walk home.
His patrol had gone on much longer than he'd been expecting, wearing him out more than usual and adorning him in nicks and bruises. His preferred dinner time had long since passed, leaving him with an uncomfortable emptiness in his stomach and an upsetting thought in his mind.
He'd been hoping to spend the day with Eijiro; now, he'd be lucky if the other was even awake.
Their apartment complex came into view as Katsuki crossed the street. Although he'd taken the same route home as he would any other day, it felt as if years had gone by once he'd finally stepped into the building. The walk felt abnormally long under the weight of his exhaustion and unnecessary guilt over missing dinner with Eijiro. He pushed his weight onto the door as he fumbled to unlock it with his key, feet growing heavy and beginning to ache after the days gruelingly long work.
Once he opened the door and closed it behind him his boots were the first to be discarded in the hall, his many coats quickly following. A light was on in the kitchen and Katsuki wondered, almost wishfully, if the redhead was still awake awaiting him.
"Eijiro?" He called out shuffling out of the small entry way. He frowned at the empty kitchen, disappointment prickling his gut although he'd expected to find it vacant.
eyes caught a familiar form sprawled out on the couch under multiple blankets. Katsuki couldn't help but feel bad for the completely knocked out man who'd probably been trying to stay up long enough to see him arrive.
The blonde kneeled besides the couch resting his head atop of Eijiro's chest, absentmindedly reaching a hand out to run through his hair and caress his cheek as he admired the softly closed eyes that slowly began to flutter open after wincing shut.
Eijiro yawned, mumbling out a greeting and leaning into the touch.
"Did you eat yet?" Katsuki asked, letting his hand fall off of the others face and into a stretch as he raised both his arms upwards.
The redhead nodded, "You look hungry, there's leftovers in the fridge."
"You cooked?" He couldn't help but widen his eyes and lean forward, "and the apartment didn't burn down? How the fuck did ya manage that."
"Have some faith in me! And uh... I may have just microwaved mac-and-cheese." He smiled sheepishly.
Katsuki stifled a laugh as he stood up, pressing his lips onto the others forehead, "I'm proud of you, anyways." It was Eijiro's turn to giggle as the blonde made his way back into the kitchen.
Sure enough a plastic container of mac-and-cheese sat in the fridge awaiting him. Even though Katsuki knew he could easily make something much more nutritional and delicious, a bowl of warm mac-and-cheese sounded good anyways, especially when it had been initially prepared for him by Eijiro.
He removed the lid and stuck the container into the microwave set to run for a few minutes. He watched his soon to be dinner spin while listening to the other talk about his day, before asking Katsuki to share his own.
"Patrols was ass, just a fuck ton of petty theifs and shit per usual." He spat, opening the microwaves door and reaching for his hot food, "I don't even know why they fucking called me in."
"Awe come on, it couldn't have been that bad." Eijiro said with a sweet smile, sitting up on the couch and motioning for the blonde.
After grabbing a fork, Katsuki plopped himself besides the redhead and leaning his shoulder against his.
"Well it was shit," He started up again, in between filling his mouth with the steaming mac-and-cheese, "especially since I was supposed to be spending the day with you."
Eijiro nestled into his side, perhaps trying to hide his growing blush, "You mean that?"
"Duh. It was supposed to be our day off but the agency had to fucking ruin it and call me in." He rambled, getting an unexpected bubbly laugh from the redhead.
"What are you laughing for?!" Katsuki yelled before chewing on an unnecessarily large portion of food.
"Sorry! 's just funny that ya missed me so much even though we live together!"
"Seeing each other during patrols doesn't count, and we're always tired as shit once we're actually home. So yes I miss you, shit head."
"Well then i've missed you too. We can try and take another day off sometime, maybe go on a real vacation?" He wrapped his arm around the others waist, resting his head on his shoulder with a grin.
The blonde clicked his tongue with annoyance, although moving to reciprocate the embrace and running a hand through Eijiros knotted hair after setting the practically empty container of mac-and-cheese down onto the coffee table.
"I love you, Katsuki." He spoke warmly into the blondes neck before letting out a soft yawn.
"I love you too."
