“Nina, I thank Djel every day for blessing me with you.”
With a laugh, Nina draped herself around his shoulders, hiding the scarf behind her back. “As you should, Helvar.” Then, she held the scarf out before him excitedly. “Look what I made you!”
Grasping the scarf in his calloused hands, Matthias looked up at her as his eyes softened. “Nina… This is beautiful.”
“What's a great white wolf without a blue scarf to keep him warm?” Nina quipped in reply, hugging him from behind and hiding her face in the crook of his neck.
Letting the scarf rest on his lap, Matthias froze. “I do not mean to presume, Nina, but… Is it possible for a little red bird to care for a great white wolf?”
Clumsily, Nina crawled onto his lap, looping her legs around his waist and capturing his gaze with her own. “Oh, Matthias…” She murmured against his lips. “This little red bird cares for her great white wolf very, very much.”
