the calming sounds of rain

Summary:

A rainy day brings comfort for a woman that just wants to listen to the lulls of the rain, her boyfriend's video games, and the warmth he brings.

Notes:

I've been thinking about this song in particular from A Summer's End: Hong Kong 1986 (which you should all play if you love a romance story with a lesbian and a woman discovering her sexuality) and how relaxing this would be to write a short fic to this. If you're looking for this song on Spotify, look for Glaciaere and you'll find it!

Gif at the beginning is from here.

Work Text:

The pelting sounds of rain were soothing, lulling those that fell under its spell into a day of sleep or quiet hobbies. Kajol sighs in relief as opposed to disappointment that her day of outdoor activity was thrown to the wayside. Fortunately, she didn't have to dwell on that alone. Feeling the warm, strong upper body of her boyfriend put her at ease. Opening her eyes, she witnesses him playing a handheld game that Zell let him borrow. From what Squall told her, It had a compelling story that kept his interest and he occasionally slacked off doing his paperwork to indulge in it. The shift in movement causes him to glance down and his tired face brightened at seeing her some form of awake.

The Dragoon snuggles further into the gunblade specialist's build before releasing a content sigh and closing her eyes briefly. The music coming from the game, the sound effects of the slashing of swords and the spells being cast, the concentrated breathing from Squall's tactical decisions in the game, and the rhythmic sounds of the rain brought peace of mind for Kajol. There was a sense of relief in knowing she didn't have to be alert; aware that her surroundings weren't dangerous and she was with someone that would have her back should she need them. Squall Leonhart's track record of defending someone unprompted remains undefeated, after all.

A small yawn comes as she pulls the blanket more over her body, almost covering her face. Allowing for her eyes to peek out from over the covers. Murmuring encouraging words to cheer her Tempest on, "Fuck'em up, Babe." She sensed how he tensed during his ongoing fight. Must have been an irritating battle, the shift in his breathing pattern went from steady to aggravation; his heartbeat raced and skipped at any inconvenience within the game.

His voice hoarse from lack of use, but packed with unwavering determination, "Count on it." Kajol knew he intended to mean those three words.

She smiles against his pectoral, purring drowsily, "I love a determined man." The comment must have stroked Squall's ego, the arm around her wrapped up body squeezed her closer to him.

Damn boss, using cheap tricks, Squall thought irritably. His strategy was practically flawless, yet he knew if it truly was, he wouldn't be having these problems. Already spent thirty minutes leveling up, learning new abilities, and activating a side quest he didn't know about, he still found himself stumped.

Luckily for Squall, he had the calming force of the outside rains and a beautiful warm woman in a cushy lump utilizing part of him as her bed. Her encouraging words for him succeeding at his goal renews his vigor and spurs him to retry the battle again. He attempts to pride himself on having a blind playthrough and not requiring assistance from someone else or a guide. The Commander is aware that if he had to, Zell would be one of the first people he would text since he would have a strategy for this. Maybe Quistis, since she did mention how she almost didn't finish this game because of this particular boss fight he was on. Her keen eye for detail has him swayed to consider reaching out to her later.

Listening to her endearing compliment about loving a determined man causes the corners of his mouth to turn upwards. Casting his gaze downward to the woman laying atop him, bundled up in her blanket with tufts of soft black curls poking out of her silk gold scarf, and her otherworldly grey eyes peeking from above the covers. Her eyes flicker upwards to his, causing him to break into a full smile.

"And I love a supportive woman." Squall beams down at her. Leaning in her direction, he presses a tender kiss on her forehead. Before he made an attempt to return to his game, he was halted by the soft sound she made. Her soft hand slithers out of the cozy warmth from her blanket to stroke along the column of his neck, sending shivers down his spine. The added usage of her fingernails against the base of his head elicits a groan, knowing that returning to his game straight away wasn't much of an option. Squall knew she wanted a kiss, and he had no qualms in bestowing one to her.

Setting the game down on his lower abdomen before cradling her on his side as she gave him a wonderful kiss. It was deliberately passionate for their shared lazy day and the moment they were in; full lips gliding over his own, warm and succulent to taste. Kissing Kajol delivers two feelings for him: the feeling of coming home coupled with the immersion of being home or the calculating temptress that dresses decadently under her everyday clothing, giving him glimpses of something ravishing and something he can feel for later. Both sentiments elicit the same feeling: excitement. Squall knew that she knew that, especially since he couldn't help slipping a devious tongue to play with hers.

Of course, because Kajol's fully aware, she playfully bites his tongue then tugs on it lightly with her lips before withdrawing herself, "Beloved, you have a game to play." She nestles herself back to her original position, and Squall realizes he's pouting and had those puppy blue-grey eyes begging for more. The price of spoiling him with too much affection takes its toll on him sometimes and he... doesn't care. To receive affection that deprived himself of for a good chunk of his life and to finally being with partners that had no problems in sharing that with him? Naturally, one such as himself would soak up every opportunity of it. Besides, he wasn't selfish in the least and always gave back, threefold.

A woman that knows how to rectify that behavior, her sleep-induced voice continues, "If you win your fight, I'll give you all the kisses you want as a reward." Her lips were deathly close to where his nipple was, a passing breath causes it to harden of its own accord. Squall knows she's teasing him, sincere in her reward, but teasing him. Reaching for the handheld device, he decides it's better to get to work. However long it took, he would succeed at his goal.

There was a tasty reward waiting for him at the finish line. Feeling her grin mischievously against his pectoral, he knew that he would be rewarded well. Until then, back to this damnable gimmicky boss.

Notes:

I would love a lo-fi piece of art for this. I imagine that the rain would be animated on the window, Squall is just gaming, and every couple of seconds, Kaj and Squall smooch. Even if it's not animated, the imagery is definitely there.

This fic and this song give me that vibe and I absolutely love that.
