meant to be.

Summary:

Diluc – a quiet and rather secluded soul, member of the worldwide famous boy group DCKZ, was entranced by the boy he (unintentionally) saved from getting degraded on the back alley of his local convenience store. The boy was trembling so much, is he okay?

Venti – a carefree and stubborn soul, stuck in a universal famous group with his childhood friends by the name of 4nemo, a hopeless romantic with a well known weakness for sweets and lavender, finds himself in a sticky situation when he gets rescued by a red-haired gentleman while going to the convenience store one night. Surely the man wouldn't want any compensation, right?

The two of them part ways, quickly forgetting the other's existence. Except a couple weeks later they meet again, but rather than savior and victim, they're introduced as the Nation's Sweetheart and The Number 1 Bachelor in the Country on one stage. Just pretend not to know each other, that should be easy, right?

Chapter 1: prologue

Chapter Text

"Venti."

Venti snapped out of his trance, whipping his head at the sound of Xiao's voice. Sure enough, Xiao was getting up from the airport seat, looking at him with a raised eyebrow. "Come on. Amber's calling for us."

Venti looked at Amber, who was at the airport entrance, waving them over. Aether and Kazuha had started walking towards her, pausing to look back at them

"You guys coming, or do you want to stay here with them?" Aether low-key pointed to the crowd of their fans, all had handphones in their hands, and were recording them (most definitely to post on the internet later or just as keepsake). Venti shivered, shaking his head. It wasn't like he hated his fans, but the attention was suffocating at times. And he never did like crowds.

"I would rather die than stay here, how absurd." Xiao sighed, an exasperated expression on his face. He let out a hand for Venti, and the boy took it. Xiao pulled him up to his feet, putting his cap on his head with one swift move. Venti shook his head a little, hair now messy.

"Come on guys, they'll leave without us!" Kazuha said, face tired. He'd been whining all the way from their dorm about how much he hated late night flights. Aether shrugged, and all of them start walking, putting on a neutral face. As they walk on the platform to the plane, Venti looked up at the night sky, seeing a shooting star swipe past. His eyes sparkled, trying to pinpoint the location of the star but failed as it was too fast.

A wish!

He slowed down his footsteps, closing his eyes.

I wish for everyone to be happy, and for me to be happy too.

He opened his eyes again, hoping that his wish wasn't too late. He thought about his wish, before sighing slowly. What a stupid wish, wasn't he already happy? He should've wished for a new phone or something...

"Hey, hurry up." Xiao called out, and he grinned. He jogged to his friends and manager, shaking the useless thoughts away.

On the other side of the world, a red-head boy was watching the same sky from his balcony, slowly sipping his tea. He was typing away on his computer, before hearing a loud (almost too loud) sigh from beside him.

"Man, I want ice cream." Kaeya said obnoxiously from beside him, sinking lower in his seat. Diluc spared a glance at his little brother, not acknowledging his wishes.

"So? You think you're the only one craving for sweets right now? Why is tonight so hot anyway?" Childe chimed in, fanning his face. Zhongli hummed from the side, crossing his legs on the couch. Diluc spared them another glance, rolling his eyes. He just wanted to write in peace, but peace was never an option in their dorm. The two continued arguing about the weather before it suddenly became quiet, the tone of his members in hushed whispers as they huddled together like teenagers sharing a gossip. Despite being successful idols now, all three of his friends still acted like they did in their trainee days.

Diluc ignored them, continuing to type away in his document when he sensedeyes on him. He whipped his head to the left, seeing all of them looking at him before turning away when they got caught. "What?" Diluc narrowed his eyes.

Kaeya looked at him, tilting his head slightly. "We want ice cream."

"So?"

"You're on duty today..." Childe murmured, making Diluc's eyebrows go up. He stole a glance at the board. Indeed, it was his name on the date today. They made that board after an argument between Kaeya and Childe, who, in their words, felt that it wasn't fair that they're always the ones who have to go to the grocery store whenever any of them needed anything. And so, the board was created.

"Fine. Write it down, I'll go buy it." Diluc scratched the back of his head, slightly annoyed but couldn't really argue. They all scramble to get a piece of paper, shuffling it between them to write down what they wanted before handing it to Diluc.

"Be careful." Zhongli called out behind him, and he hummer in response. He walked to the convenience store, huffing a breath of cold air. Once there, he gathered all of the things his friends wanted and payed for it, wanting to hurry and go back to the comforts of his bed.

He walked out of the store, eyes cast upward. Diluc stared at the twinkling stars, mentally counting them. He had always been a fan of Liyue skies. The moon looked so bright tonight, the crescent shape of it looking ethereal against the black night sky. A shooting star whipped past him, and he stopped. Holding his breath, he made a wish to the gods.

I hope I can meet someone who loves me for who I am and not for what I can give.

Diluc let out a breath, continuing walking. He felt a little bit guilty, having wished that same wish every single chance he got throughout these years, but then he remembered his high school days and grimaced, a scowl forming on his face. It's probably better if he continued praying that same wish every single year, to not repeat history.

Never would the two idols now that the individual wishes that they made that night would intertwine their fates, linking them in more ways than one. Nor did they know that because of the other's wish, their past mistakes would be cleared up, leaving only happiness and love for them to pursue.

And never would the two know that despite all odds, they were meant to be.
