Seungcheol was sad.
And when Seungcheol’s sad, the rain pours.
‘Hey, what’s up..?’ Jeonghan asked, opening the door to Seungcheol’s room.
Seungcheol groaned, smacking his head into his desk. He turned his head towards the door, his cheek squished into the wood. He pouted sadly, looking away.
Jeonghan entered, pulling up another chair and sitting down next to Seungcheol.
‘Hey, wanna talk?’ Jeonghan asked, putting an arm around Seungcheol’s shoulder. Seungcheol nodded, his blond hair falling down onto his face. Jeonghan tucked it back behind Seungcheol’s ear.
‘Want me to just listen or provide solutions?’ Jeonghan asked before Seungcheol started.
‘Listen,’ Seungcheol answered, getting his face off the table, leaning against Jeonghan.
‘So lately, I’ve been kinda upset and thinking a lot about well, everything, and when I’m upset it rains and people get upset when it rains. So I force myself to be happy so it becomes sunny and happy,’ Seungcheol said. ‘And I really needed a break but I couldn’t give myself a break because it would make people upset. And sometimes-‘ Seungcheol said, sniffling at the end. His breath hitched. ‘Sometimes I wonder if people only come to comfort me because they just don’t want it to be rainy all the time, and they don’t comfort me because they want me to feel better, but they only care because they wanna go out or put out the laundry or something,’ Seungcheol said, listening to the pitter-patter of rain on the window.
Jeonghan waited for a long enough break to speak.
‘But Cheol, I actually care. We all do. We comfort you because we don’t like seeing you upset, not because we want it to be sunny all the time,’ Jeonghan comforted.
‘Thanks,’ Seungcheol said, staying silent for a while. Jeonghan ran his fingers through Seungcheol’s hair, knowing that it calmed him down.
‘You don’t need to bottle everything up. Sometimes it rains. Who cares. If people were going out, they can just reschedule. It’s fine, Cheol,’ Jeonghan smiled, giving Seungcheol a big hug. ‘Anyway, it needs to rain every once in a while. Don’t beat yourself up about it,’ Jeonghan said.
‘I’m tired,’ Seungcheol mumbled into Jeonghan’s shirt after a minute of silence.
‘Wanna go have a nap?’ Jeonghan asked. Seungcheol nodded. Jeonghan tried getting up, thinking that Seungcheol would get off and go on his own, but he didn’t. Seungcheol held onto Jeonghan’s waist, keeping his head pressed into Jeonghan’s midsection. Jeonghan absentmindedly ruffled Seungcheol’s hair.
‘Carry me?’ Seungcheol, his sudden puppy eyes startling Jeonghan, who subconsciously glanced at the window, where rain no longer fell.
Jeonghan couldn’t say no to that face. He picked Seungcheol up, arms straining. Jeonghan groaned. That hurt.
However he ignored the dull pain in his arms, dutifully carrying Seungcheol to his bed, carefully putting him down. Jeonghan crawled in on the other side, smiling as Seungcheol rolled towards him, eyes closed.
Jeonghan smiled, planting a kiss on his forehead. ‘Sleep well.’
