“You’re a monster. You’re the monster.”
The answering smile is almost delicious. Jason feels the shivers trapping themselves under his skin.
“Yes little one,” That voice is full of unmasked delight. “And now i'm going to do what i’ve been created to do so I don't suppose you’ll hurry up with the whole “being a hero thing” so I can destroy you quickly and get on with my day?” A dark eyebrow arches, almost expectantly.
Jason scrambles up, “Wait, wait, wait.” His legs ache, the abrasions from his fall splitting and pulling as he attempts to get onto wobbly feet.
“Yes yes i know” The monster sighs, somehow sounding both full of care and without it at the same time, “You don’t want me to destroy your home and the only place you’ve ever felt comfortable and you’ll do anything to save it.”
“No, no,” Jason risks grabbing that powerful corded arm, unable to resist staring at all the beautiful deep brown skin. He blinks, straightens up. They both stare at where he still makes contact. His eyes are wide but his resolve is titanium. “Please take me with you.”
The monster stiffens. Green eyes whipping up to his, flashing like stormy oceans. “What?”
“Take me with you. I’ll help you, or I'll work for you. Just please don’t leave me here.”
They stare at each other for a long moment. Or rather Jason panics quietly, dirty fingers still wrapped around that arm of steel, and the monster looks at him unfailingly, unblinking. There is no emotion on the carved beauty of that face. It feels like even eternity ends before the monster speaks once more.
“My name is Perseus.”
It is such an unexpected thing, a strange thing, Jason nearly crumbles to dust. “What?”
But a reply is not given, and then Perseus— gods what a name, a name fit for Kings, and for monsters all the same— simply severs their connection and begins to walk.
“Only monsters can create monsters.” He hears his mother’s voice.
He stares at this monster’s back, rippling brown skin, muscle that transcends the power of oceans. He follows.
Jason wonders who created this monster. Jason wants to be created again.
