at some unknown point since they met, without even having conversations about it, things just became so natural between oikawa and futakuchi—and it was iwaizumi who had to be the witness of most of it as if seeing hanamaki and matsukawa daily wasn’t enough oblivious gayness in his life.
as an example, they had plans to eat together near aoba johsai today so futakuchi waited for them outside their campus; charismatically leaning on a wall, playing a game on his phone, and enthusiastically sucking on a lollipop.
iwaizumi planned on greeting the youngest, but as soon as futakuchi was in reach, oikawa grabbed the lollipop stick and tugged it out of futakuchi’s mouth, asking, “what flavor is this?”
“guess.” futakuchi nonchalantly replied, still focused on his mobile game while oikawa proceeded to put it inside his mouth.
“ew.” oikawa reacted, his face morphing into a grossed out expression, “it’s sour.”
with an ironic suck on the lollipop, oikawa complained, “do people really enjoy lemon lollipops?”
“i do.” futakuchi mumbled, finishing off his game, “obviously, because i was eating it, wasn’t i?” he added while pocketing his phone, “give it back, maybe?”
oikawa’s lips made a pop sound as he took it out of his mouth and futakuchi opened his to welcome it back. oikawa took the chance to nag futakuchi’s appetite for sour things and tell him that it’s the cause for his acid reflux.
futakuchi rolled his eyes and ignored him, flipping the lollipop to the side so it wouldn’t be in the way when talking, then he faced iwaizumi to greet, “hey, iwaizumi-san.”
awkwardly grinning, iwaizumi greeted back, “hey.” then a chuckle, “at this point you two are going to kiss in front of me someday.”
oikawa raised a brow, “why?”
“why? were you aware of what you guys just—” iwaizumi glanced at futakuchi, and the boy looked confused as well so he just stopped, closed his eyes and sighed while he ran a hand through his hair.
these idiots.
then—sticky. something was against his lower lip.
as he opened his eyes, he instinctively opened his mouth too and then—sour.
futakuchi’s arm was in front of him, still holding onto the lollipop stick, but once iwaizumi met his gaze, he dropped his hand back to his side.
iwaizumi was dumbfounded, even more so when futakuchi’s tongue darted out to lick away the remaining flavor of the candy upon his lips.
swallowing the saliva pooling in his mouth due to the lemon zest surrounding his tastebuds, iwaizumi muttered, “what’s this?”
futakuchi pouted adorably and tilted his head to the side, “i thought you’d want to share.”
“uhm.” iwaizumi started, a little giddy about who knows what, “yeah, i don’t like sour things.”
oikawa scoffed a laugh, “it’s a miracle that you like futakuchi-kun then.”
“the two of us, you should say.”
“who says i like you both?” iwaizumi said, biting on the stick while he said it, muffling his words a little.
oikawa mockingly laughed, reaching out for the stick. iwaizumi politely released the lollipop, assuming oikawa would eat it but he passed it back into futakuchi’s mouth instead.
oikawa then wrapped an arm around futakuchi’s shoulders to pull him close into a pose. with a smirk, oikawa confidently spoke, “you would be lying if you said you don’t, iwa-chan.”
iwaizumi looked at futakuchi, and with sincere eye contact, futakuchi shrugged to agree with oikawa’s claim.
iwaizumi huffed. amused. warm. disgustingly fond.
alright. maybe it wasn’t just oikawa and futakuchi.
