Summary:

They don't want the others to find out.
They all do, in different ways.

Notes:

hello! guess who's back :3
this is basically the episodes of Friends where everyone finds out about Monica and Chandler's relationship (Ghosts version).
This is very silly, I apologize (if they sound out of character, they probably are but pls don't hate me).
As always, I want to thank my dear advisor, Emma, and the only one who manages to make my two braincells work, Caterina (love you <3)

Chapter 1: The One With A Song And A Storm

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Kitty was walking through the corridors, humming a tune she had heard on Mike's phone.
Those little boxes were really funny.
She giggled.
Lady Button had already fallen out of the window, so everyone in the house was awake.
She passed in front of the Captain's bedroom and she heard something. A soft tune.
Kitty stopped and tried to figure out some words: she had never heard the Captain singing a song that wasn't about war, that was a unique moment!
His voice sounded muffled because of the door between them so after some moments, as she didn't wanted to disturb him, she just shrugged and resumed her humming, heading for the stairs. The only problem was that, when she turned the corner, Kitty nearly bumped into the Captain, swagger stick as always in his right hand.

Then who was singing in his room?

“Oh, good morning Katherine.”
Despite her confusion, Kitty smiled brightly and the Captain couldn't help but smile back at her little tooth gap.
“Good morning, Captain! Isn't this the most wonderful of mornings?”
The Captain coughed awkwardly before answering.
“Indeed it is. Wonderful weather.”
Kitty smiled and proceeded for the stairs. She had already forgotten about the whole “singer-mystery”: she had planned an “Hide and Seek Morning” with Mary and Robin and she couldn't be late.
“Bye, Captain. See you later!”

The military man smiled at the young lady and headed for his room.
When he arrived in front of his door, he turned and looked at the now empty corridor. His brows furrowed, then he lowered his head and sighed. Quickly, he entered his room.

Kitty didn't like thunderstorms. The rain was good, she liked the sound of it, but thunder and lighting really scared her and didn't let her sleep.
She got up from her bed and immediately headed to the library on the ground floor: she was hoping to find Thomas in his usual sighing place and that he could help distracting her from the horrible roaring with his verses.

Sadly, the library was empty. Kitty sighed and turned around.
She knew she promised Alison never to enter her and Mike's bedroom at night, but when a clap of thunder struck near the house and made her whole ghostly body shiver, she decided that breaking the promise for one night couldn't hurt anyone.
On her way to Alison and Mike's room, she walked in front of the the Captain's room and heard again that voice coming from behind the door, singing a different tune.

“...of juniper and lamplight. I held your hand.”
Someone laughed softly.
“You really are, aren't you?”
“Hey, I know you're afraid of storms. You're safe here.”

Kitty decided that she had to solve that mystery and she entered the room.
The Captain was sitting on his bed, hand in hand with a certain Tudor nobleman, with his head leaning on Humphrey's left shoulder.
When Humphrey noticed that Kitty was in the room with them, he immediately stopped singing and nudged the Captain's side with his elbow.
The military man turned his head towards the door and saw the girl. He jumped to his feet and let go of the other man's hand. The two men saw Kitty widening her eyes in realization.

“Oh! Oh!”, and she pointed first to the Captain, then Humphrey.
“Katherine!”, the Captain took a step forward but Kitty took one back, vanishing through the door into the corridor.
“Oh!”, Kitty really couldn't believe it.
Suddenly, she saw Humphrey's hand coming out the door and circling her wrist, pushing her inside the Captain's room again.

“Kitty! Calm down!”
Humphrey made her sit on the Captain's bed, but Kitty really couldn't, she was too excited.
“You?! And you?!”
“Yes”, Humphrey smiled a little.
“But you can't tell anyone. No one knows”, the Captain rolled his stick anxiously in his hands.
“How? When?”, Kitty had so many questions.
“It happened before the burglary”, Humphrey looked quickly at the other man.
“Before the burglary!!”, Kitty nearly shouted.
“Shhh!”, the Captain said while Humphrey put a hand on Kitty's mouth.
“The reason we didn't tell anyone was because we didn't want to make a big deal out of it!”, Humphrey said while removing his hand.
“But it is a big deal! I have to tell someone!”, Kitty said.
She tried to get up but Humphrey stopped her and made her sit again on the bed.
“No! You can't.”
“Please, Katherine. We just don't want to deal with telling everyone, alright? Just promise you won't tell”, the Captain was basically begging her.
Kitty thought it over for some moments, but she saw the two men's pleading faces and gave up.
“Alright.”
The Captain and Humphrey both sighed in relief.
“Oh, this is unbelievable. I mean, it's great but...”
Kitty saw Humphrey taking the Captain's hand in his, just like they were before she had entered the room.
“I know, it's great.”

Notes:

the song is "For Emily, Whenever I May Find Her" by Simon and Garfunkel, if anyone was wondering. If you were also wondering how Humphrey knows about Simon and Garfunkel, don't. (Warner Bros pls don't sue me for using the dialogues)
