Chapter Text
Eijiro opened the bathroom door releasing a cloud of hot steam. With a towel wrapped around his waist he stepped into the bedroom, his eyes immediately fixing onto his husband who was sprawled out on their bed unconscious and exhausted from a long day fighting crime. His limbs were spread in a starfish position, taking up the most space on their king size bed as possible. Eijiro knew it wouldn’t be pleasant later when he’d eventually have to find space to join Katsuki in bed (or accidentally wake him up trying) but for now he appreciated getting to take in his adorable husband.
Eijiro was about to throw some boxers on when a buzzing sound coming from Katsuki’s bedside table caught his attention. He glanced at the screen and saw that not only was Izuku attempting to reach Katsuki, but Katsuki had already missed 5 of his calls.
“Hello?” Eijiro answered for Katsuki. Katsuki, being an extremely light sleeper, drifted out of his slumber and into wakefulness. Hoping he’d be able to fall back asleep he hadn’t opened his eyes fully but listened into the conversation for the time being. He was curious as to who was calling so late at night.
“Everything alrig- OH MY GOSH REALLY?!” Katsuki's eyes shot open. Whatever was going on he doubted it would let him go back to sleep.
“Dude! Ok! We’ll be there as fast as we can!” Eijiro hung up and immediately grabbed Katsuki by the shoulder. “Kats wake up!”
“I'm already up shitty hair what the hell-”
“We gotta go right now” Eijiro grabbed his keys and started walking towards the door. “Ochako went into labor! they’re having the baby!!!” He was smiling so wide and with so much energy you would never know they had just completed a 12 hour shift fighting villains that day.
Katsuki watched his husband slip his shoes on.
“Eijiro-”
“Look I know its 12 am and we’re both tired but this is your best friend-”
“Eijiro-”
“Both our best friends really! We need to be there for them-”
“Eijiro-”
“This is gonna be the biggest day of their lives! A big day in our lives too so we need to be there-”
“EIJIRO YOUR FUCKING DICK IS OUT PUT SOME FUCKING CLOTHES ON BEFORE WE LEAVE THE GODDAMN HOUSE TO MEET AN INFANT”
Eijiro turned a bright red that matched his hair and looked down to see that all he had on were his crocs. He had yet to get dressed after his shower.
“Oh....yea. haha,” he sheepishly giggled and began to throw on some clothes.
Pretty soon Katsuki found himself in the passenger seat of their car, going to meet his best friend's offspring at an ungodly time at night. And yes, Izuku was his best friend. A much younger Katsuki might have blown someone's face off for even implying that he and Deku were friends in any way and then yelled at the top of his lungs an itemized list of all the reasons he hated him. A Katsuki now on the precipice of turning thirty, would simply say nothing at all. He wouldn’t get all sappy and voluntarily say something like that himself but he also wouldn’t deny it. After everything the two had been through, there's no denying that they have a bond. Katsuki has grown a lot over the past decade and part of that growth was accepting the fact that Izuku is his brother. And that's not the only growth he's had. If you had asked a younger Katsuki if he ever wanted kids someday he’d flat out say no. If you had asked the current Katsuki the same question, he’d still say no but there would be a good bit of hesitation. Not huge growth, but growth nonetheless.
When Izuku and Ochako first announced they were having a baby, Katsuki thought his best friend had completely lost it. Hero rankings had stopped carrying actual weight a while ago so it's not like they had to worry about falling in the rankings, but a family would still take them away from their hero careers quite a bit. It wasn’t until he had spent several patrols with Deku rambling on about how excited he was to be a father that Katsuki understood how happy this made his friend. Izuku had a bad habit of sacrificing himself for others and never doing anything for himself. If having a baby really made him this happy, then Katsuki decided he was just glad to see Deku doing something for the sake of his own happiness. Still, while he accepted that it made his friend happy he had yet to see the full appeal. He wasn’t sure how much he’d actually care about Deku’s spawn when the time came.
Eijiro on the other hand was very excited about the new baby. Katsuki was well aware that Eijiro loved kids. They’d had brief discussions in the past and Eijiro had expressed that he’d like to have kids but only if Katsuki did as well. He wanted kids but he wouldn’t feel incomplete without any. He loved Katsuki first and foremost so as long as they were together, with or without kids he’d feel complete. That being said, Eijiro was ready to spoil the hell out of this baby. He’d come home on a regular basis with a haul of bibs, onesies, and toys all for the Midoriya’s little crotch gremlin. Katsuki wanted to be annoyed but the light in his husband's eyes was too mesmerizing. Katsuki couldn’t help but wonder if that light would be brighter if those bibs and onesies and toys were for a baby of their own.
Katsuki would stop that line of thinking as quickly as it started. They didn’t need a baby. Nobody needed a baby. Sure some people like Ochako and Izuku wanted a baby but they never needed it. And quite frankly, watching the stress Izuku had been going through the past couple months and thinking about the stress he’d go through for the next 18 years made him question how badly someone had to want something to make them act like they needed it. Hell, Ochako was an athletically trained hero capable of back handspringing with perfect precision into a villain's face yet Izuku hovered around her like she’d suddenly forget how to walk downstairs and break every bone in her body. Deku’s behavior even started to rub off on Katsuki oddly enough. Once when they were in the office, Ochako had gotten dizzy after standing from her chair a bit too fast and Katsuki had nearly sprinted to catch her. He still wasn’t sure why he had gotten so panicked. Yes, his friend was heavily pregnant but the worst that would happen was that she’d fall five feet onto the soft carpeted floor. She’d suffered far worse. So why did that interaction make his heartbeat so fast?
At long last they’d finally reached the hospital. Eijiro had insisted that Katsuki hold his hand on the walk in. Katsuki knows that Eijiro knows that Katsuki isn’t a huge fan of PDA. The only time Eijiro requests they hold hands in public is when he feels like he really needs it. So Katsuki has a firm grasp on Eijiro’s hand. Why Eijiro is so nervous to meet a squishy little person Katsuki isn’t sure but he holds onto that hand either way.
They take a seat in the waiting room and even though Eijiro’s hand shakes in his own and his knees are bouncing with nervous energy, the smile on his face doesn’t leave for a moment. After what feels like hours, Eijiro’s knees still and Katsuki is taken out of his trance.
“Guys…” They glance up and there is Izuku. His eyes have a steady flow of tears and his shirt is soaking wet with what they can only assume is more tears. Possibly some nervous sweat. Definitely also sweat. He’s shaking with happiness, and probably exhaustion. He gestures for them to stand and follow him.
Suddenly Katsuki is feeling nervous. Why is Katsuki feeling nervous? Eijiro has been nervous this whole time. Maybe Eijiro knows why he's nervous. Why are they nervous?
They enter the room and Katsuki sees Ochako sitting up in bed with a small bundle in her arms. “Sitting up” is actually being pretty generous. She’s propped up on a bunch of pillows and looks like she could pass out within the next couple minutes. But she also looks incredibly happy and content.
Katsuki hears a loud sob and turns, thinking it's his husband only to see that Izuku has somehow began crying even harder than he was before upon seeing his wife a child again after being apart for literally 45 seconds.
He turns back to Ochako and Eijiro has already made his way over to the side of the bed. Katsuki goes to join his husband and he swears he has never felt himself walk so slow. Before looking at the baby, he can’t help but stare at his husband. He has his own collection of tears building up in his eyes (not nearly as impressive as Deku’s though mind you) and he has a light in his eyes that until now was reserved for only Katsuki. Katsuki almost feels jealous for a moment but then decides that if there's something else in this world that can make his husband's eyes light up like that, he needs to see it for himself.
His eyes finally fall on the baby and he knows he fucked. He can’t tell if it's because it's fresh out the womb or because it’s mother is pink cheeks herself, but that baby is pink. Katsuki feels like he should be grossed out by something so pink yet his heart starts to feel warm. He spots some fluffy dark green hair peek out from under their teeny tiny baby cap. That cap by the way, It’s an All Might cap with two yellow bunny-like hair wefts gently standing up two inches over the baby's head. Katsuki’s heart feels hot now. The baby winces and Katsuki flinches thinking it's about to start crying. Instead, their eyes open revealing the same deep green Katsuki was introduced to when he met another kid from his neighborhood back in preschool. Suddenly Katsuki’s heart is on fire.
Before Katsuki can get too concerned over his sudden onslaught of heartburn, Ochako breaks the silence that for the past two minutes has only been broken by sobs and sniffles from Eijiro and Deku. Oh. And Katsuki. When had he started crying?
“This little guy's name,” Ochako shifts her arms tilting the baby to face the couple a bit more, “is Toshinori but he likes to go by just Toshi,” she says with a giggle.
He can’t say the name surprises him. What does surprise him is the steady stream of tears he feels go down his cheek upon hearing the name. Eijiro beside him appears to have been punched in the gut with feelings upon hearing the name, crouching in what can only be described as a vertical fetal position and sobbing uncontrollably into his arms. Yup. That's his big strong husband who despite having a literal hardening quirk is the softest man he’s ever met.
“Do you want to hold him?” Ochako asks. Katsuki assumes Eijiro will take the baby first but after a brief moment realizes that Eijiro is still too busy in his sob-squat to confidently hold the baby. Katsuki shakes himself out of his stupor (how long has his mouth been gaping open like that? He must have looked like an idiot) and tentatively reaches his hands out to hold Toshi.
And then... he's holding Toshi. Fuck.
He looks down at this tiny little boy, who has to be the tiniest thing he’s ever held, and sees a few tear drops land on his tiny baby blanket. Fuck, is he really crying that hard? Jesus.
In the time it took for Toshi to get settled into Katsuki’s arms, Eijiro had managed to compose himself enough to behold the baby from beside his husband.
Toshi looked up at Katsuki and with his little baby fist bopped him in the chin. It didn’t hurt at all; he was much too weak and soft for it to even remotely cause anything resembling pain. And of course everyone knew it wasn’t actually out of any hostility, he was just a baby who didn’t understand how to use his limbs yet. However everyone in the room let out a soft chuckle.
Finally Izuku managed to pull himself together enough to put together an entire sentence.
“Hey, that's no way to treat your godfather bud!” he playfully scolded his son, yet his eyes were fixed right on Katsuki. Katsuki sucked in a breath then looked between Izuku on the opposite side of the bed and Ochako, eyes pleading for them to elaborate.
“Would you two do us the honor of being Toshi’s godfathers?” Ochako asked with a gentle smile.
That broke Eijiro and he thrust his face into the crook of Katsuki’s neck, somehow sobbing harder than he had been for the past five minutes. With a now extremely damp shoulder, Katsuki managed to nod his head. Words weren’t accessible at the moment. He looked back down at his godson.
His godson.
His best friend would raise this little guy and teach him about all the crazy things this world has to offer. Him and Ochako would teach him about being a hero, not the profession necessarily but the idea of caring for and helping people. And now Katsuki had a title that invited him to be a part of that. Katsuki was so happy to be a part of that. He wanted that.
He wanted that.
Fuck.
He looked to Eijiro who had at some point taken Toshi into his own arms.
He needed that with Eijiro.
