Obliged

Summary:

It was a little thing that sent both of them smiling until their eyes shaped into crescent. Small thing that made them happy. Maybe, they are obliged to do it. Maybe they had to do it again right now.

Work Text:

Everyone knows that Hoseok likes ice cream. It’s like his most favorite sweet traits amongst all kind of dessert in the world. He would have it during his free time. Having it for himself only, the sweet and smooth texture really satisfy his taste buds. Especially during summer like this, Hoseok would have ice cream more often than not in a week. Whenever he could grab it, the sweet would be beside him. Hoseok likes it, but he doesn’t mind to share. Actually, he wished that he could share it with someone. A person he already knew well for years. Some friend he usually spent time the most with—well, they are sleeping in the same room after all. They hadn’t go out together recently, or even have something to do together. Maybe because they were both busy. Maybe because they aren’t obliged to do it. They still spend their time with the others, though, but that doesn’t mean they have time for both of them only. Hoseok feels a bit shame to have that selfish thought. Little did he know that the other person also thinking the same thing.

“Hey, you are home.”

The person was now coming to their shared room. Today is their free day, that explains why Hoseok was lying on his bed, having a bucket of ice cream for himself while watching some dance videos on his phone. Jimin only nodded before plopping down on his own bed. He hid his face from Hoseok—there was no question for that. They might be together in this room, but Jimin left earlier today without telling Hoseok where he was going. Hoseok didn’t ask either. They have their private life, sometimes. Much to his surprise, Jimin suddenly turned his head to him. Noticing that, Hoseok also threw a glance at him.

Hyung, let’s watch some movie together,” There was Jimin’s request. “At the living room,” He added before Hoseok could ask further. Well, who is he to say no? Hoseok paused the video on his phone, took off his earbuds and landed his feet beside the bed. He cocked his head, without a words asking Jimin to follow him outside. The younger had faint smile on his lips before he got up and walking right behind him. The living room in their dormitory was empty—nobody was around. They chose some movie and finally decided on an adventure movie. Romance is a bit too much for them, and comedy seemed to not suit the mood.

“It’s mintchoco, Jimin-a,” Hoseok called him out. Just before the movie started playing, Hoseok went back to his room and grab the ice cream bucket he had before from there. Jimin immediately took it from him and enjoying the sweet for himself. Not like Hoseok was mad at that, though. Little part of him was actually feeling more than happy right now. Finally, he could share it with the person he wanted to do it the most.

Giving the bucket to Hoseok, Jimin then answered. “I know,” He said, eyes still fixed on the movie. “It doesn’t taste bad.” Perhaps, he was adding that because many people have the opinion about how weird a mint-chocolate ice cream flavour. Hoseok knew that, but he never argued back to them. The flavour is his most favorite, honestly. He actually was a bit glad that Jimin didn’t seem to have same opinion with them.

The sounds that was coming out from the movie drew attention of Jungkook and Namjoon who were on their own bedroom before. They joined them later. Namjoon didn’t ask for the ice cream but Jungkook did. The bucket was tossed between Jimin and Jungkook, before it was going back to the rightful owner. Unfortunately, when the movie was over, the bucket was near to empty. Hoseok held back a laugh. He wasn’t mad—it was actually entertaining him. He was happy to be able to share it with them all.

“Where are you going?”

After finishing the movie, Namjoon and Jungkook were ready to go. They usually had their workout time during this hours. Jimin was tagged along. Hoseok, well, he isn’t into that kind of activity. But seeing him prepared on his room sent a question to Jimin’s head. Hoseok pushed a smile to him before replying in short. “My studio. I got some inspiration after watching the movie.”

They chose to get off together, Jungkook was driving for them. Hoseok parted with the other three as he was heading to his own studio. Something about the movie lighten up the idea bank inside his brain. Hoseok had to write it down before the notes gone. He was humming along the melody he just made, clicking this and that on the monitor with mouse under his hand. The raw song finally was done after two hours and half. Hoseok listened to it with satisfy feeling. The melody was good already. He would release it later after fixing some parts and adding some lyrics.

Just between his hummed and constant melody from the speaker, a knock on his door was audible. Hoseok spinned his wheel-chair and getting up. The person before the door was sending his heart skipped a beat. “Oh, why are you here?” He asked with calm voice. Hoseok’s eyes spotted two cups of ice cream on Jimin’s hands. The younger was already on his outfit from the dorm earlier. His hair were a bit drenched with sweat. He just finished the workout, Hoseok guessed.

“Let me in first—the ice cream is gonna melt,” Hoseok could hear him whining. He chuckled and took a step back, letting Jimin go inside. “I feel bad for the ice cream bucket,” Jimin spoke to him as he sat on the sofa. “So I buy a new one for you,” He handed him one of the cups. Hoseok knew it was from the new cafetaria in this company’s building. His corner of the lips lifted upward.

“You don’t have to do that,” He said jokingly, but still tasted a scoop from it. Sweet. “Thank you, though,” Hoseok raised his free hand and ruffled Jimin’s hair. The younger ducked down and ate his own ice cream in silent. They stopped talking for a while.

“Actually, I want to have the movie date with you,” Suddenly Jimin opened his mouth. Hoseok turned his head to him. “I was going out this morning to buy some ticket but everywhere is sold out,” Jimin sighed. Hoseok’s heart was beating faster for two seconds because of that. They almost get it. The date he had been wishing for in the past month. They almost have it. If only the movie date at the dorm back then was attended just by the two of them. Hoseok let out a dry laugh.

“We still can have it next time. Don’t feel bad about it,” He replied in reassuring voice. Eyes looking straight at Jimin’s ones. The younger stared at him a bit longer than he should. Hoseok wondered if Jimin wanted to say anything more. Instead, his right hand was coming near to Hoseok’s face. The next time, Hoseok felt Jimin’s fingers brushed the corner of his lips. He froze.

“You have mess here,” Jimin said in low voice. His thumb left Hoseok’s lips and went straight to his own. He licked the remained cream that was there before. Hoseok looked away. His face got heated up. Jimin spoke again not so long after. “Hyung,” He called, but Hoseok didn’t turn his head. Only hummed back as a response. “Honestly, I want to spend more time with you,” Jimin continued with a whisper. As if he was confessing something. As if he was saying something forbidden. “We haven’t done many things together recently.”

A sigh escaped Hoseok’s lips. No, Jimin got a point there. Maybe they were a little bit busier these days but both of them usually got to spend their time together more often than not. As roommate, Jimin and him were used to do many things by themselves only. It was a little thing that sent both of them smiling until their eyes shaped into crescent. Small thing that made them happy. Maybe, they are obliged to do it. Maybe they had to do it again right now. Hoseok smiled a little—glad that Jimin was not far different from him.

“How about shopping with me tomorrow?”

It wasn’t a request. Jimin was also asking for that, Hoseok could sense that. He mentioned about wanting some new pair of jeans and jacket. They stared at each other and exchanged smile. “Perfect,” Jimin replied, smiling even wider. Hoseok grinned. Again, he ruffled the younger’s now dried hair. They finished the ice cream shortly after. Jimin exhaled deeply and threw himself over Hoseok’s lap. His head rested on there. Hoseok only looked at him while playing with his hair.

“I like being with you, hyung.”

That one sounded more like a confess. Jimin’s eyes were closed but Hoseok knew he meant every word that slipped from his mouth. The corner of Hoseok’s lips lifted up when he listened to that. “Of course you do. If not, you won’t ask me to be your roommate again,” Hoseok teased him. Both of them cracked into laugh.  “But I like it too,” Finally, he was being serious again. “I like being with you too, Jimin-a,” Hoseok added, fingers still playing with Jimin’s hair. They wrapped in silence afterwards. No one was speaking. Only the sound of their steady breath that could be heard. They looked content—soundly. If happinness could be described without a word, Hoseok and Jimin would surely say that it’s this time. This current time. This present. When there are only both of them, inside their little bubble of comfort.

Well, they should do it more often. This is their obligation to do.
