Work Text:
You looked down at the letter in hand, wondering if you had made the right choice to seal your feelings away in pen and paper. But looking at the sleeping figure of your husband next to you, you knew it had to be done.
Sneaking out of bed gently, not wanting to wake Remus up, you walked into the kitchen for an envelope. Once it was all away, you slipped it in-between your cookbooks for him to find if something did turn out wrong.
Walking back into your shared room, you saw Remus looking back at you with sleepy eyes, “Where were you, love.”
“Bathroom. Now move over.” you said as you crawled back in bed and into his arms.

“You cant lie Remus,” A very heavily pregnant Nymphadora laughed at her newly-wedded husband, “you can’t cook. Why don’t you use one of those cook books in the shelf? You do know how to use one, right?”
“Of course I do. Now go rest; I’ll bring dinner through when it’s ready.”
Once she had left the room, Remus sighed before relenting and grabbing a book. You had brought them just before your wedding and he hadnt cleared them out, he couldnt bare too. You loved cooking and you lived through these books.
However, as the grabbed the book from its place, a slightly yellowed envelope fell from the shelf and onto the countertop. Remus picked it up, examining it slightly before opening it and taking the letter from inside.
"My dearest husband,
If you are reading this, than I can only assume that the worst has befallen upon me during the war, that I am dead. If that is the case, I hope you are well and you are happy.
I just wanted to write somethings down incase I never got to tell you in person:
Firstly, I want you to know that whatever has happened to me, it isn’t your fault. I have made my choices by choosing to fight in this war. It wasnt your choice to let me fight, but my own. And therefore, I cannot allow you to hold and blame or guilt for my passing in your heart.
Secondly, I want you to move on from me if you haven’t already. I want you to remarry, have a family, have a life. I dont want you to hold yourself back because if anything that may of happened to me. Maybe you are already in love again when you read this, and if that is the case, I hope you treat her well. Of you show her half the maount of love you have shown me, she will be the luckiest person alive.
Lastly, I want you to know that I love you with every inch ans cell of my being. And when my cells die out and are replaced with new ones, they will love you even more.
I want to thank you for the extraordinary life you have given me.
I love you forever,
(Y/N) Lupin Your Wife"
Remus gently placed the letter down before wiping the tears from his eyes. He may have remarried but this letter was him finally being able to let you go.
