The Days | Remus Lupin

Summary:

When Remus finally meets his soulmate...

Chapter 1: The Best Day

Summary:

They promised to stay together...

Chapter Text

All of his life, Remus Lupin had always felt incomplete. Not in the sense that he wasn’t a whole person, he was. It was more like there was a part of him that he hadn’t unlocked yet. A puzzle to be put together; all the pieces are there, just not in the right order.

Although he had always felt like this, he had always wondered what it would be like to see colours. Most found their soulmate within the first three years of attendance at Hogwarts as soulmates tended to gravitate towards each other, even if they didn’t realise it.

It was lonely, he didn’t like to say as he felt like it wasn’t that important. His friends had a lot more going on than him not finding the one just yet. So he bit his tongue and smiled along at James’ antics to get his soulmate, Lily Evans, to fall in love with him.

“Hey, mate.” A voice said behind him, making him jump, “You ready for the ride? I’ve brought Bertie Botts.”

“Really, Sirius? Remember last time you had one? You got cat fur and then proceeded to vomit in Peter’s trunk.”

Laying his arm around Remus’ shoulders, Sirus pulled the two of them onto the train and into their usual compartment which, the other students had left alone to save them from some misfortunate pranks later in the year.

However, as they entered the small room, they saw a stranger, half-sitting, half-laying, in the corner, an open copy of 'Guide To Advanced Occlumency' resting on top of their face. They were snoring ever so lightly. So signalling for Sirius to be quiet, the boys snuck in and sat opposite her.

Remus looked up at the trunk above her, looking at the name inscribed onto the side. (Y/N) (L/N). He thought the name suited them, or what he could see of them. It was nice for him to sit in silence for a change.

Well, it was for the moment that it lasted as James burst through the door not long after. He was about to start talking about how he had jinxed Severus on the platform but his eyes landed on the stranger. “Who’s that then?”

“Some random girl,” Sirius responded. “Haven’t seen her around, looks too old to be a first-year.”

“Their name is (Y/N). It’s on her trunk.”

James smirked, “Well, (Y/N), it’s time to wake up.”

Grabbing the book from their face, James shouted the name in her ear, causing them to tumble to the ground with a yell. Quickly standing up, (Y/N) dusted themselves down, “Dude, what the hell?” Turning to face Sirius, they spoke again. “Is he always like that?”

“Unfortunately. I’m Sirius Black and this is Remus.”

(Y/N) smiled at Sirius before turning to greet Remus. The words escaped (Y/N) as she made eye contact with him. Colours of all kinds flooded her vision, The murky blue-green of the train seats, the maroon colouring of James’ shirt, and the chocolate brown of Remus’ eyes.

Someway, somehow, Remus knew that this was the best day of his life.
