Work Text:
"I need time to think. Alone." Himiko says, walking away from the League's hideout. No one tries to stop her, knowing it isn't possible, she'd be even worse if she was forced to stay.
As she walks out of the bar, she thinks about Twice, her only friend left. She really wanted to kill Hawks at that moment, but knew it'd be better if she waited. She walked, seemingly endlessly, not knowing where she'd go; she needed time alone to process what had happened. The world was in chaos after Dabi revealed his true identity; they'd invaded Tartarus, releasing many villains to the world. That was how she spent the first week, walking around, stealing things from people, killing some if they got in the way and finding somewhere to sleep that was at least somewhat comfortable, as comfortable as she could be when she had to protect the few things she had with her, they were things that were important to her and she couldn't lose them.
In front of her, was the shed from her childhood, her parents always sent her there every winter; now, it was abandoned. The shed was in a secluded spot and the chances of anyone finding her were almost none. She opened the door, seeing it was just how she remembered it, nothing really changed.
--------------------
Himiko opened her eyes, seeing her room, at least that’s what she thinks it is, it doesn’t look very familiar. She groans and sits up, knowing she needs to get ready.
She looks around her room, as if it was the first time she had seen it. The walls are coral with accents in white, her bed has red bed sheets, barely visible under the fluffy ivory blanket and pillows. To the left of her bed is a table made out of dark wood with her phone laying on top of it.
She yawns and gets up, walking to the closet to take out her uniform. She puts on her white dress shirt, a grey jacket on top of it, her teal skirt, her knee-high socks and her black slip-on shoes. She picks up the red tie, struggling to put it on, and walks towards the mirror.
As she ties her hair back into two buns, she looks at her reflection, something feels off about it, but she's not sure what it is. She looks at the time on her phone, seeing she's going to be late if she doesn't run. She walks out of her room, and rushes to her classes.
She wakes up. It was just a dream. She looks at her actual room, the walls are wood, painted in the same coral as in her dream, but, different from that, the paint is chipping at parts, showing the color of the wood beneath it. She tries to cover herself up more in her blanket, trying to go back to sleep. That blanket is one of her few prized possessions, its soft and comfortable, even after being used for years and being completely worn out, it reminds her of the soft embrace of her parents, before they disowned her for her quirk.
Her comfort was interrupted by the noise of her stomach growling, she grumbled to herself as she sat up, wrapping herself even more in the blanket before getting up to get food.
As she walked through the hall, she looked at the old pictures still there. All of them were cracked, the glass covering only half the pictures, with the other half being exposed.
She stopped in front of one of the photos, it was one she hadn't seen before, it had her, with her parents, swimming in the river close by. She was smiling, the happiest she'd probably had ever been at the time, her parents were smiling too, but it seemed somehow faked.
She walked past it, ignoring all the other pictures, finally getting to her kitchen after walking through the corridor that now seemed to be longer than it used to.
She ate the first thing that she found, which happened to be an apple pie, one she had done the day before. With her isolation from the outside world, she didn't have much to do, she had a lot of food left, but soon, she'd have to go outside again to get more things so she could survive.
She took her phone, playing one of her favorite songs, and started dancing, something she hadn't done in so long; she was self-conscious about it, but, with no one to see her, she could re-create the choreography she'd seen in a video, lip-syncing to the lyrics.
As the last notes of the song played, she left the kitchen area and went back to her room, she didn't feel motivated to do much but wrap herself in her blanket and watch something on youtube, maybe cry if she was feeling up to it.
The blanket was half-off the bed when she got back, she placed the plate still in her hand on the table next to the bed before taking the blanket and placing it around her, it'd be easier if there was someone else there with her, but she'd manage alone.
She went to a familiar site, it was one where people would post stories, logging into her account, taking a bit of the pie next to her while she waited for it to load. Surprisingly, there was a considerable amount of people who had read her more recent stories, it made her feel like she belonged, like she wasn't an outcast. If anyone knew who she really was, they'd hate her, but for now, her identity was hidden behind the stories she wrote about an anime she enjoyed.
She spent most of the day watching videos, feeling cold no matter how much she tried to warm up. She finished yet another video, deciding that she needed to do something and be productive.
She went back to working on the story she was writing, already half-way done with the chapter.
She worked for the next few hours, not even realizing how much time had passed until she saw the sky was dark already. She wasn't tired, but it seemed her body craved for sleep, even if it was what she'd done for so long. She sighed, getting up and taking the plate she'd set on her desk back to the kitchen, she didn't want to get up, but it'd be better if she did that at that moment.
She passed by the hallway once again; it seemed as if it had changed, although she couldn't tell how, the only difference was the lack of lighting from the night, a faint glow coming from the moon.
As she came back from the kitchen, a sudden urge found itself present, one stronger than sleep and hunger. She found herself walking into one of the other rooms the hallway led to, one she hadn't gone in for years.
It was her old room; it looked the same as she remembered. As she walked around the room, she found, on top of the table, gathering dust, her old diary. She knew she shouldn't, but she picked it up, its outline marked on the table by the lack of dust on it. She looked through the pages, reading some of them. She couldn't remember most of the memories logged onto the book, although she recognized one or the other, the last time she wrote in it was years ago. She left the diary where it was and left, going back to her room.
When she got to her room, she walked to the box in the corner; it was full of vials of blood, all from different league members. She looked through them until she found the one she was looking for, it was one of Twice's.
She drank a bit of his blood, as little as she could since her supply was limited, she wasn't ready to fully say goodbye to him yet.
She walked towards the mirror, it was cracked at the edges, but she didn't mind it. She looked at Twice’s form, she missed him, but he'd never come back, she wanted to think that if there was an afterlife, she'd see twice there again, in another life, but she wasn't sure.
She saw the tears falling down the face, it was hers but it didn't look like it was, she wiped the tears away as the last remnants of the dead man's form disappeared, her body returning to her regular self.
She ran down the halls of the building, running from the villains that had attacked, she didn't know why she was running, but her body moved without her permission.
It seemed she had lost them while running, she wasn't sure where she was. She walked around the room, it was dark and filled with dust, covering every inch of every surface there. She saw her reflection in the mirror, but it wasn't her. Her blonde hair was brown, falling down to her shoulders, and instead of her golden eyes, chocolate brown stared at her in confusion.
At that moment, she realized that it was probably a dream, she heard a voice telling her to break the mirror, she tried, but the body didn't move, it felt as if she was moving in the real world, but not there, she tried again, the body moved a bit. She felt like she shouldn't trust the voice, but she didn't know what to do, instead trying to wake up
She opened her eyes, hugging the penguin plushie Dabi had given her; despite his cold attitude, he was like an older brother to her, she missed him.
She had spent a few months in the cabin, maybe it was time she went back to the league. As she tried to go back to sleep, she heard a loud knock on the door.
Confused, she walked to the door, taking a look at the peep-hole and seeing a familiar, scarred face.
She opened the door, seeing Dabi. He did nothing but wrap his arms around her as she hugged him; she felt like she was home again.
