   Summary

   Caspar walks ahead, and wraps a stiff arm around Annette’s tiny shoulders. As they march towards Garreg Mach, a heavy hush enshrouding their party, Ashe watches in despair as her body heaves and shakes with quiet sobs. In Ashe’s own moment of peace and solitude, he can finally shed the tears he’s been holding back, too. They sting his eyes as they stream down his cheeks.

   He can’t tell if he’s crying for Dedue, or for Dimitri. Or for himself.

   Dedue is dead. 

   Dimitri is broken. 

   And Caspar is back.

   Or: Ashe and Caspar travel together during the timeskip, and much more than just hilarity ensues. Years later, when the Blue Lions finally reunite to end Edelgard's war, the two of them have to fight side-by-side, again - which is bound to be a disaster, given the demons they still haven't faced, the truths they still haven't told, and the nature of the thing that tore them apart.
