Out of his peripheral, Bruno saw Leone turn his head to look at him. “What are you saying?”
Bruno was quiet for a moment. He wasn’t sure exactly what he was saying, all he knew was that this was too hard, and it wasn’t doing either of them any good. Lately, he spent more time either fighting with Leone or afraid they’d get into a fight than enjoying being with him. He missed the days where he felt like they were on top of the world. He missed having someone’s hand to hold, someone who picked him up off the couch when he fell asleep during a movie, someone who made him feel like he was worth a damn for the first time in his life.
It wasn’t like that anymore.
Bruno swallowed hard, his throat raw as he tried to hold back tears. He let out a shaky breath and closed his eyes, watching the last seven and a half months flash before his eyes. There were more good times than bad, he’d give them that at the very least.
“I’m saying I can’t do this anymore.”--
