Chapter Text

The sirens blared as I ran down the street. My hoodie blowing behind me as I sprinted with all my might to reach the alleyway.

"Only one more block," I repeated in my head as I clung to the bag in my hands.

My legs were on fire and my lungs were bursting as I couldn't breathe. I stumbled on a crack in the ground, before quickly regaining my balance. The edge of the alleyway was in my sights as I quickly checked behind me. The sirens were still blaring and closing in on me rapidly. I took one last deep breathe before using the last bit of my energy to sprint around the edge of the corner.

A body sprinted past me as I rounded the corner, an overly sweet perfume lathered on.

"Good luck," I yelled behind me as I saw the rusty green fire escape was hanging down just as he said it would be.

I smiled a little as I looked up to see the smoke and light coming from his cigarette. I gave a tiny wave before ascending the stairs. I was careful to step over the broken ones that hung down threatening to damage you considerably if you stepped on it. I had just reached the top of the of the first flight of stairs when the sirens came speeding by, flashing their lights throughout the alleyway. I heard the yells of the officers as they were beginning to become desperate.

"Find her!"

"She couldn't have gotten far!"

"Chief will have our asses!"

I laughed to myself as I pulled the fire escape up and ran up the remaining two flights. As I reached the top of the building a thin pale hand with the word "Sin" tattooed across the top flicked the end of the cigarette over the railing. I stood there as I watched him turn around with that smile that I loved so much.

"You did it," Hanma said as he rubbed his hand with the word "Punishment" across it through his hair.

I nodded and held the bag in triumph.

"Yeah but do you think Sid will be ok," I asked as I looked down the alleyway, half expecting her to come running back.

"Of course. I made almost a foolproof escape route," Hanma said with a smile on his face. "How was it? Was it harder than you thought it would be?"

"I almost got caught. They had three more guards on duty than expected," I explained as I climbed inside the window, barely missing the top of my head.

"Even better. The thrill of life is better with risk," Hanma sang as he climbed in behind me, shutting the window in the process.

I shook my head and sat the bag on the bed.

"Maybe for you but I would die if I got caught. Constantly being watched and not able to enjoy anything properly," I responded as I unzipped the bag and whistled as I looked at the contents.

"Damn," Hanma said as he leaned over my shoulder picking up one of the many stacks of cash that laid in the bag.

My eyes were frozen as I examined the bag. Inside laid multiple stacks of cash secured together with rubber bands. I was awestruck as Hanma just laughed at me.

"Pick your jaw up darling. It's not a good look," he said as he sat on the bed counting the money in his hand.

I rolled my eyes at him as I pushed the bag towards him and flopped onto my back. I stared up at the ceiling with the mini glow in the dark stars plastered against it. They were faded and worn and barely noticeable unless you strained your eyes. The sound of the city filled the background as cars drove through the many puddles in the streets. The subtle sound of money shuffling back and forth in Hanma's hands was a perfect blend of noise for my drained mind and body. I shuffled up further onto the bed until my head laid in the crook on of Hanma's knee. I looked up into his eyes as he stared back down at me.

"What is it love," he questioned as he picked up a cigarette placing it between his lips.

"Nothing," I answered genuinely as I looked away, my eyes focusing on the ragged "Star War" poster.

I laughed to myself as I earned a strange look from Hanma.

"No because really what's up," he asked as he used his left hand to pull you to face him.

"Nothing! I'm serious," I said through a laugh.

Hanma shook his head before letting go of my face and turning away to continue counting the money.

I laid on his leg as my mind drifted away to the worries that but away at my mind.

"Will everything be fine? Will this plan actually work? What's going to happen to me? Will I make it out fine," I thought to myself as I worried myself to sleep.

I awoke to the smell of coffee and the sun shining in my face. The bright light fighting against the front of my eyelids causing my eyes to crack open. I blinked before my mind started to focus in on the shadow that sat in front of me. With a groggy mind and half awake body, my mind made the shadow out to be Hanma and I threw myself into the shadow's arms.

The person in front of me began to laugh and slowly my mind started to register that this wasn't Hanma. I looked up and let the shadow focus and the pink and blue hair that definitely didn't belong.
