Aziraphale looked up pleasantly from the book he had been engrossed in, for the last…
Oh dear... 8 hours. He stretched, shrugging his shoulders displacing a layer of dust that had begun to settle. Not a single customer all day, though perhaps he forgot to open. The angel walked to the front door and unlocked it, a demon leaned against the door frame reminding him of a snake hanging from a branch.
“Did you forget about our date tonight?” He asked cooly, waving his hand slightly to remove some of the dust that had gathered like a halo on the angel's head.
“Oh not at all.” Aziriphale sang, “Just got a bit sidetracked.” He said sheepishly, before once again brightening up. “You see I just received a rare bible and the story of Noah is told just a bit differently.” being in the same position all day made him feel a bit restless, “Shall we walk?”
Crowley made an amused noise, a walk might take a bit longer but he was content with spending time with his angel, “Sure, Angel.” He gestured in the direction they were to walk.
Aziraphale continued to talk throughout the dinner, starting out about the book he read, while Crowley nodded, and would interject with a side tangent, that led to another side tangent, until they were on a completely different topic from the start. By the time they had finished up, it was a threatening gray outside.
“Oh dear.” Aziraphale said as he held a hand out and a drop of water promptly fell on it. “It looks like it might just rain.”
Crowley looked up. “Maybe we should find a place to wait it out?” He suggested, “I think there's a park nearby."
The duo managed to find their way to a gazebo, just as it really started to pour down. Both just a little damp, as they hadn't quite made it in time.
Aziraphale made a small miracle warming them both up, and drying them off.
Aziraphale looked out over the park and let out a sigh, Crowley noticed. "Something on your mind then?" He asked.
"Oh just some silly old memories of the first rainstorm," he smiled fondly, before his mind moved on, "Oh! And as I was saying! In the bible with an alternate version of Noah's ark in it, it said there was an angel who saved some kids, but I don't quite remember doing that." Aziraphale said knowingly as he admired the look that came across Crowley's face.
"Fine yes, but it was only because it was going against the Almighty's plan." Crowley retorted, it wasn't a lie exactly, but leaving children to die, no, they haven't even been given a chance. Crowley felt a bit sick all of a sudden as he remembered he couldn't save them all.
"Of course my dear," Aziraphale leaned into the demon's shoulder hoping to comfort his dearest friend, "Look Crowley, it's clearing up."
Crowley was brought back to the present and he took the angel's hand into his own as they stood under the Gazebo looking out. As the sun started coming out it hit the rain droplets creating a perfect rainbow across the sky" You've got to admit the whole rainbow business, despite how it came about, they are pretty nice." He said. The rain was no more than a light sprinkling now. The puddles that had formed now were attracting young humans to splash around in them.
In the distance-"Stop dilly-dallying guys!!" A young girl called to her friends. " I think I see the end of the rainbow! We gotta hurry up!"
Aziraphale lifted his head. "Suppose there was something at the end of the rainbow, what do you think it would be?" Aziraphale said as the thought popped into his head.
"Certainly not a pot of gold." Crowley added with amusement
"Hmmmm, perhaps it's a lovely little table with some nice tea? And maybe a couple of desserts, perhaps tarts-" Aziraphale fantasized.
Crowley offered his arm to his angel, already planning where they would find the end of the rainbow and a spontaneous little pop-up tea shop. "Shall we go find out?"
Aziraphale glanced up lovingly, a warm smile across his face. "Why not."
