Chapter Text
When you are forgotten, what would you do?
The moon tonight was a full one, shining the brightest in all of its form. A bright clear sky and stars flickering with different shades of color. Truly, was a beautiful night to lay and gaze upon the beauty of this world.
“Won’t the great Rex Lapis, try traditional rice sake? It has a much more refine flavor than your usual drink here.” Was said by a beautiful woman with a light shade of purple hair tied up neatly with a single elegant hair pin, as she pushed a cup filled with liquid unto the dark hands of a man with white cloak. His arms are coated with a dark color, that is the same shade as his long hair.
Rex Lapis let out a heavy sigh as he has no choice but to accept the stubborn hand shoving a cup to his.
Smiling victoriously, the woman watched as the man besides her drank the cup in one go. “Hm. It does have a unique taste I must say, but in the good way.” He says as he puts the now empty cup on to the stone bench they are currently sitting on.
“I did tell you did I not? Does this mean you would give me a reward?” She said as reached out to her side to grab a bottle and refilled both of their empty cups.
“And did I not tell you to stop coming here so often, Amaterasu? Leaving your country defenseless is not the ideal way to rule your lands.” He grabbed the cup and this time took his time in sipping it to better appreciate the taste. Though at first the only response he got was a soft chuckle and a pat on his arm but after a few seconds she spoke again.
“It’s not defenseless. My people are strong and I believe in them. Besides that, I do not leave my land till I cleanse of it from the evils that the war left behind. I always make sure of that.” She says and then took a sip on her cup.
“Then do tell me, why do you come and go here. As if you do not have the responsibility of being an Archon?” He lifted his hand and grab her wrist to stop her from taking another sip. She turned her head and looked him straight in his eyes. Her silver blue eyes meeting his golden ones.
“I come here because I do have the responsibility. I want to protect, not just my people but those who I can as well. I heard that 4 of your strongest Yaksha disappeared....” She whispered softly the last sentence as she knows this topic is not one she would like to bring up tonight as it gives painful memory to her friend.
“All I want was to be of any help to you my dear friend. Alas, if it’s not what you want then I-"Her sentence was cut off when he took her cup away, which made her frown a bit.
“You had enough wine for this evening. I rather you not following the footsteps of that wind fool.”
“Wind fool...? Ah, you must mean Barbatos. But he’s quite a drinking company I must say.” She chuckled remembering how silly that boy can be despite being a powerful Archon.
“I am grateful for your help, though I rather you stop and focus on your own. Sometimes you are too kind, and too stubborn. It’ll end up going to be the cause of your problems if you do not notice this.” His words may be harsh but he speaks out of concern for her. Her actions are too selfless and will lead her to her demise if she does not give herself enough importance.
“Rex Lapis, you who put an end to hundreds of corrupted gods, must understand one cannot simply turn a blind eye on those who need to be protected. Even if it does lead me to my death, I would never regret my choices, so you should not as well, feel regret if something does happen.”
Noticing that there are petals gathering on his hair. She turned her body to face towards his and lifted her arms to pat his hair, gently removing the flower petal of the tree they are sitting under on.
“I do not want to share wine with that fool.” He suddenly said which made her stop patting him.
“Goodness me, is that the only reason you worry?”
“No.”
She finished clearing all the petals from his hair and placed her hands elegantly on her lap as she gives him a smile and spoke.
“Then what is it?” She asks him.
“I am not fond of bidding farewells, especially to my dear ones.” He crossed his arms and turned his golden eyes to stare back at her silver blue ones.
She sighed, her eyes breaking their eye contact and instead stares at the grass beneath her “Good-byes are not something we can control. All we can do is cherish the moments we have of right now.”
After that, both of them didn’t spoke of anything for a long time, refusing to break the comfort of silence. Then in the corner of his eyes, Rex Lapis saw a flower growing besides his feet, it was a glaze lily. He bends down to pick it up and examined it before calling the name of his companion.
She turned her head to give him her attention when she felt his right hand slightly caress her cheeks as he placed the flower on her ear like a hair accessory.
“Oh? What’s this?”
“A Flower.”
“Obviously, my dear friend. But why would you need to do that, silly.” She gave him a smile before thanking him. “It is a pretty flower; I thank you for it.” He nods in response.
“You remind me of a flower.” He said simply as if it’s a common sense.
“Ah, well I am flattered by your words. Hm, then let me give you something as well” She looks around trying to find something.
“You do not have to. I don’t need any flowe- “He was cut off by her voice.
“Found it, aha!” Then she sits up from the bench and walked towards something on the ground before coming back to sit down again but she kept her arms behind her to keep him from seeing what she picked up. She turns to face him with a silly smile, and he frowns.
“What are you hiding?”
“Do not worry, I am not holding anything that would make you throw a mountain at me. Just put your trust in me and close your eyes, please dear friend?” She begs him with a twinkle of silliness in her eyes.
“Fine. I do warn you; I shall ban you here for a year if I do not like what you will give.”
“Yes, yes. Now, close those eyes of yours.”
He closed his eyes, then he feels her coming closer to him before a light weight object was placed on top of his hand. It isn’t heavy nor is it too light to be a flower.
“You can open your eyes now.”
When he did, what he saw on his hand was a small glowing stone, it’s a small piece of cor lapis. The way its shape looks a lot like something that is mended by a blacksmith, it is smooth and beautiful to look at. He held it up delicately so that the moon will shine on it, making it even prettier.
“Did you give me this because it has the same color as my eyes?”
“No, it’s because you remind me of a rock.”
He then stares at her for that response and blinks at her, she blinks back.
“Well, aren’t you brutally honest.” He says with a smile as he tucks the stone in his clothing. “But it is also pretty, so I thank you.”
Smiling back at him she says “You are most welcome, my dear friend. Now then how about you let me taste your Osmanthus wine as well.”
“No. you already had enough”
And that’s how they spent the rest of the night, him scolding her and her persuading him she didn’t drink that much, just 5 bottles only. Truly, both of them treasures moments such as these.
Sadly, that night was the last one they ever had.
